Arrived to find a spotlessly clean lodge with a lovely bottle of wine and fudge left by Mandy and Colin the owners who showed us everything we needed to know immediately! The hot tub was a definite plus to our holiday as the weather turned very cold there was nothing better than jumping in the hot tub to get toastie and warm. Perfect holiday even in wintertime! We booked a week and stayed a fortnight we loved it so much (would have stayed yet a third week if commitments would have allowed)!
The nearest big town is Newtown wher there are supermarkets and lots of shops and cafe's pubs etc. Llanidloes is a couple of miles away and a very quaint place to see and get some groceries too local bakers and butcher etc.
All in all we had a fabulous holiday in a beautiful place and can't wait to return!
Thanks Mandy and Colin
Keep doing just what you are doing!

I was hesitant to book due to the (one or two) negative reviews, but I would urge any others who may also feel this way to disregard and unhelpful reviews.
The owners were very pleasant and helpful.
Perfect accommodation. Very comfy bedding.
A good base to try out a few golf clubs (welshpool particularly good- go on a good day as it will be exposed to the elements) and then head back to a comfy sofa and hot tub!
Will hopefully revisit next year.

I have just come back from a long weekend in one of the luxury lodges and its been a fantastic weekend for both myself, my boyfriend and our two friends!

Check in time was clearly stated as 4pm, however we arrived early. We had every intention of just finding the location and then heading back to Newtown Tesco but we were greeted by Mandy who kindly let us use her loo and even went out in the rain to see if we could check in early! Fortunately our lodge was ready so we were allowed to check in - thank you very much! :)

When we arrived at our lodge we had ample parking for both the cars we arrived in and we went inside straight away to see what the deal was! Immediately we were met with the fresh smell of chlorine, and we were then told when Mandy popped by half an hour later that the tubs are emptied, cleaned and refilled with fresh chemicals and water after every stay - this was very reassuring after hearing horror stories of other places with hot tubs and legionnaires disease!!

We went into the lodge to be met with a complementary bottle of wine and some local shortbread as well as tea, coffee and some milk! How lovely! The lodge was clean and tidy and was great to see that what we saw on the internet really was what we were getting in our stay!

After getting our stuff from the cars Mandy popped around and showed us how everything worked, recommended things to do and places to visit, and gave us a brief overview of the do's and dont's of staying in the lodge. After this the only contact we had with Mandy and Colin was when we checked out, and Colin was very friendly, asking us where we were headed and hoping we had enjoyed our stay - we cannot fault the hospitality so thank you both!

We managed to fill our weekend with things everyday, and there is lots to do other than walking. Admittedly you will have to get in your car for most things, but to be honest how can people leave poor reviews about the things to do - you have booked a lodge in the middle of nowhere! What were you expecting?! :-o

Personally we loved the peace and quiet whilst we relaxed in the hot tub, and the friendly visits from the ducks and Max the dog. We felt secluded and private in the hot tub like we were the only ones there - it was fab! On the Saturday we went to Aberystwyth, which was less than an hours drive but great to visit the sea. We popped to the local pub (Red Lion) for food that evening too, which wasn't far from the lodges at all (FYI foods good but choice is limited - a menu is included in your lodge welcome pack). On the Sunday we headed out in the rain to Devils Bridge. A lovely road for car enthusiasts btw! There were two walks, a 10 minute one and a 45 minute one. We did both, but must say that both include steep stone steps and probably not recommended in the rain with small children who may slip!
We weren't really worried about getting loads of activities in, but there is so much to do, we saw karting, rally complex, clay pigeon shooting, working farms etc - and that was just along the roads we drove down. Plenty of leaflets were inside the lodge, but i must stress this isn't the place to go if you are expecting everything on your doorstep! This is an idyllic and secluded area in the country - be realistic!!
For those into photography its a must too, I killed both my batteries in that weekend, and next time we come (yes we are booking again!) We are bringing the telescope too!
For those who enjoy a drive there were beautiful, and fun, roads to drive down.

Otherwise not much more to say I don't think! All four of us had a fantastic weekend, we are going to book again, and cant wait!

Room Tip: My only suggestion would be bring pillows if you are not used to very firm ones. Thats not a fault w...

I spent two fantastic nights at the Grandstand Lodge in September 2013 and it was worth every penny.

If you want isolation, luxury, great surroundings then this is the place to book.Mandy the owner is lovely, very friendly and cannot do enough for you.
I spent two days fishing on their well stocked pond and caught plenty of fish.Watch out for the 3 resident ducks who are real characters, they come to your lodge in the morning and knock on your door for any tit bits.Mo the cleaner is also lovely.
This retreat is an ideal base to explore the beautiful mid Wales.

Thanks Mandy and I look forward to seeing you soon!!

We have had a wonderful holiday staying in the Crows Nest lodge. We met Colin and Mandy on arrival , the lodge was 1st class accomodation, a lovely welcome pack was there in our arrival. The views from the lounge and one of the bedrooms was absolutely stunning. If you need any information about routes to take for the best views speak to Colin. Great day out is the Elan valley, fantastic scenery, good food at the visitor centre especially the fish and chips.

what a find this place was!! the quality of the accommodation was only surpassed by quality of the welcome. As to the area it is quite idyllic. I know it sounds a cliche but we genuinely did want to leave

We have now returned 5 times to the Lodges and as always it is perfectly prepared and Mandy and Colin are the ideal hosts. The peace and tranquility whilst sitting in the hot tub with a glass of something cold, watching the wildlife (red kites and bats) flying about, and life passing bye, the answer to a relaxing holiday. Also well situated to some of the best Welsh tourist spots. Would also recommend a meal at the local pub.
