The Manor
Reviewed 16 February 2013

Having seen the previous reviews from last year and the slightly off putting pictures of floral, tired bedrooms, I was a little worried before arriving! However, we arrived in the snow which gave the Manor that extra air of magic and was impressed to discover this beautiful 900 year old manor home not far from Oxford.

The Manor has recently been brought (private owner) and the refurbishment is under way! And I have to say, the work was being done discreetly and not intrusive on your stay at all. You can certainly notice the vast difference from the rooms now completed to the previous rooms! We stayed in Room 3, which is front facing on the main house. Classic, simple creams and Hessian colours used, to create a more sophisticated and luxurious room. The only down side is the room next door has the tv placed by your bed, therefore the early bird next to us woke me with the 6 o'clock news coming through the wall! Otherwise, the room was quite and very relaxing!

The staff were extremely friendly and helpful- The OM was informative and obviously working hard to make the improvements to the Hotel! We also had a very nice bar tender (I think he said he was from Poland) who kindly offered us some Olives, to then say they had run out... this did not actually matter as he was helpful and friendly and we were very happy having a game of chess with our drinks!

The Manor invites you to use it as your own home, so it was very nice to explore the different rooms, with an impressive dining Hall. The evening meal was the five course taster menu- very nice, no complaints at all. The breakfast was a little too formal I felt, where the sense of treating the manor as your own home, was lost. A beautiful and light room though, perhaps having the waitress standing in the room whilst you eat was too much? It is help yourself continental breakfast, therefore perhaps have the waitress come in and check every so often? Perhaps having a newspaper offered to read whilst having your coffee after, would create a more relaxed atmosphere also? The other guests seemed to whisper as it was so quite and formal?!

The grounds are also stunning and offers lovely outdoor seating in the summer, so we will certainly visit again when the weather is warmer! Overall, an excellent stay and such an improvement~ Keep up the great work at The Manor, we will definitely come back and recommend your to friends and family!

Room Tip: The Groupon vouchers offers rooms in the Stable block, not part of the main house. We were offered t...

We have just returned from a wonderful stay at this fabulous hotel. We have passed this hotel a number of times when travelling to Oxford but finally managed to fit in an overnight stay.We were greeted by very efficient receptionists and we delighted to be given a free upgrade to a four poster bedroom. The bed was amazing dating back to the 17 century but if you are over 6ft 2 then this is not the bed for you. After checking in, we sat by a roaring fire and relaxed whilst drinking a delicious coffee. There was a huge selection of magazines and papers from which to select and enjoy. Our room, number 4 was superb it had just been refurbed to a very high standard the bathroom was beautifully appointed with a great shower and bath. The furniture and fittings in the bedroom were very much in keeping with a manor house of this period. Now to the food, all of it was delicious and was eaten a stunning room which when light had great views of the garden which was very well kept .The wild mushroom soup with truffle oil was particularly wonderful but we could not fault anything, we sampled the tasting menu for dinner.Breakfast was also fabulous, orange juice is often the telling factor in hotels and this was freshly squeezed and delicious.Breakfast was cooked to order and arrived promptly and was very hot.All the staff were delightful and nothing was too much trouble for anyone. We have stayed in a large number of hotels worldwide and would rank this one very highly we hope to be back with some of our friends very soon.Thank you to you all for giving us the chance to re-charge our batteries!

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the main house.

We attended a Christmas function here and stayed overnight. It is excellent - great food and service. The room was clean and catered for your every need. The Manor itself is wonderful with a royal history. It is set in beautiful grounds and only for the fact that it was raining we would have walked the grounds the next morning. Could not fault the food and service - we had private dining and the attention to detail was superb. Would not hesitate to recommend this hotel and stay there again.

We decided to have Christmas lunch out this year, the first time ever and chose Weston Manor because it is close to where family live in Bicester. The entrance and grounds impressed us straightaway, a beautiful historic building in a wonderful setting. Once inside it is even more lovely, restored sympathetically and in keeping with the history of the building.

We decided to explore and Christian, the Manager, approached us and asked it it was our first visit and then took us on a tour through the rooms explaining the work undertaken so far. It was so interesting and we really appreciated the time he took on a very busy day. He also kept a close eye on the room and arranged for seating in the bar as soon as a table became available. A really lovely touch and made us all feel very welcome. As if we were guests in his home.

The lunch was £68 and worth every penny. There were 6 in our party and all agreed the food and service were excellent. We sat in the gallery in The Baron's Hall which was decorated beautifully. We really liked that there were a limited number of tables with staggered seating times which made it feel relaxed and without the usual rush of serving a large number of people.

We will not be cooking Christmas lunch again! A huge thank you to Christian and all his team who were outstanding.

I was brought here for a birthday treat. The hotel is amazing. Not only maintaining history but maintaining it with style. It is very unusual to come across a hotel that gets so many things right. Staff were brilliant and extremely welcoming and attentive.. so much so that I am already thinking about booking another weekend. I loved the setting etc. Good romantic hotel. It was so good that I feel bad saything that the room we stayed in was just okay. It looks like they are doing up rooms and while there was nothing wrong with it (being v basic), it was not as special as some of the other rooms. We were upstairs in the main old building at the back - I cannot remember the room number but it was at the end of a corridor. There was a staff door opposite us and it led to a kitchen (I presume) - the noise was not appreciated. Particularly as staff kept leaving the door open!
That said - I was really impressed with this hotel. I very rarely want to return somewhere so soon. Breakfast etc. was great. We did not have dinner (great restaurants in the area) but had lunch and a drink or two.
Well done to everyone there (aside from the room we staying and the noise) you are doing an amazing job.

Room Tip: Make sure you get a refurb'd room if possible.

Thank you for your fantastic review and brilliant feedback. You will be pleased to know that we are just finalizing plans to refurbish our Master Suite and aim to have the room completed in April 2013. Meanwhile, we now have 6 rooms refurbished to a very high standard. The issue we had with noise has been dealt with, so thank you for bringing this to my attention.

Our doors are always open to you and your honorable guests.

I think this place deserves a second review from me. We've used the Manor for quarterly business meetings for the last 3 years. Our delegates love it as this isn't a corporate place, it feels like home.
The hotel is being upgraded very tastefully and every time we go back it gets even better. The new management are friendly, attentive and clearly on the ball. Food is tip top and the staff at all points are professional, friendly and smart...
I'm so very pleased to see this grand old manor house being carefully and thoughtfully restored.
