“Fun for all the family”
Reviewed 8 July 2013 for a stay in June 2013

We had such a brilliant holiday at Lac de Maison I feel compelled to write my first trip advisor review! Trying to find something that provides relaxation for adults, entertainment for a 4 year old, and all the equipment we need for a 10 month old is not easy, but Anna and Simon achieve all of that and throw in top tier hosting skills on top. They really make the place - it is like staying with friends (friends who give you lots of space and cook for you whenever you want!!). We stated in Rose Cottage. It is very well equipped and spotlessly clean, with plenty of space for us all. Plenty to do within a short drive, although you may find it hard to get everyone away from the gite/pool/garden/playbarn... We loved it!

“Totally relaxing - even travelling with a 2yr old”
Reviewed 12 June 2013 for a stay in June 2013

An excellent holiday for parents with young children. The cottages were lovely, Anna & Simon couldn't have been more welcoming and the play facilities were wonderful. Our 2 yr old was in his element and really enjoyed the freedom that the safe environment allowed him. Best touch was the indoor playbarn so that he could come indoors in the hottest part of the day, but didn't have to stop playing.
Anna's cooking was gorgeous - so nice to still have a couple of restaurant-quality meals without leaving your cottage!
We weren't convinced that it would be possible to relax on holiday with a toddler, but at Lac de Maison we certainly managed it.

“Perfect Easter at Lac De Maison”
Reviewed 16 May 2012 for a stay in April 2012

We arrived, exhausted at beautiful Lac De Maison after an epic trip - the overnight ferry and minor roads down through La Belle France - and were met with relaxed kindly smiles and warm greetings from our hosts Anna & Simon. The 3 Gite Complex seemingly lies slap bang in the middle of nowhere, and is all the better for it; the perfect location for a relaxing and rejuvenating break.
My wife quickly spied the inviting hammock slung between 2 tree trunks in the sunny grounds and spent an enjoyably tranquil hour or 2 simply appreciating the warmth, stillness, solitude and lullaby birdsong of the rural French countryside. Our 3 children explored the 2+ acres - safely bordered on all sides by trees fences and walls, and returned with excited tales of Ponies, Chickens, Rabbits, Honey the dog, trampolines more hammocks and (whisper) even an Indoor playbarn with loads of games !
Our Gite - Honeysuckle - provided superb accommodation with 4 Bedrooms 2 Bathrooms, Lounge and enormous Kitchen/Diner. The gite comes fully loaded with modern conveniences like a DVD player, and numerous (recently released) DVD's, Satellite TV, CD player, child friendly board games and as many kitchen utensils a professional chef (both Simon and Anna's previous occupation) could wish for.

We took advantage of the welcome pack and Anna's arrival meal - and I would highly recommend this - both in terms of easing yourself into the holiday and also for the wonderful quality of the food provided.

The joys of a holiday like this is that everyone gets from it what they want - 2 tired stressful parents were able to completely relax - secure in the knowledge that while the children were nowhere to be seen they would be safely corralled on site; perhaps scampering over logs, playing hide and seek or petting the animals - but definitely not logging into Roblox or Club Penguin.
We were lucky with the Spring weather and on the 3rd day I was stunned when my 10 year old activities refusnik son pleaded to be accompanied by his old Dad on a country bike ride! The quiet safe roads and beautiful undulating French landscape made for an extremely pleasant father/son bonding experience. So much so that on day 4 my elder son (aged 12) also asked to come along. Quelle surprise! Keeping the the big Green Barn in sight we struck out on our 4 or 5K gentle ride. We saw butterflies, birds of prey, horned cows, sheep frogs, but not one other vehicle. Bliss!. Emboldened, next day we rode into the nearby small village of Vasles - and quenched our thirst with bubbling soft drinks for them and smooth French beer pour moi. Our morphing into the Von Trapp family reached its culmination when we were joined by both my wife and 6 year old daughter on Day 5 and we all whistled along merrily as we cycled on through the peaceful scenic countryside. You simply cannot put a price on memories such as these.

The nights at Lac de Maison were warm and cosy and snug - our tri-male bonding continued with the ritual evening gathering of twigs and logs (stored and dried conveniently nearby by Simon) for the wonderful log burner while my wife and daughter read together, plaited hair and decided on the evening's entertainment. The wood burner pleasingly warms the Gite and cuddled up together on the Sofa my wife and I watched (amazingly just released that day, thanks Anna) the Oscar winning silent movie The Artist (French subtitles) with cheese and wine, while our children slept peacefully and contentedly in their delightful rooms - puffed out simply from just doing the stuff that children do - but outside.

We bought essential provisions from Vasles - bread butter jam cheese and milk; got the main shop from the Supermarket in Vouille (20kms away) and got our eggs freshly laid by Simon's 5 girls. Nothing beats scrambled eggs made from that morning's delivery!

Anna took our 6 year old for a ride on Filou the pony - we played volleyball, badminton, boules, read books and my traditional Easter Egg (Chocolate Eggs) hunt kept the children occupied for hours as they tracked down the eggs I had hidden the night before in the numerous trees, bushes, hammocks, and of course the chicken coop within Lac de Maison's extensive gardens.

There are worthwhile day trips too - Futuroscope in Poitiers was fun - and we all ate out French Style, one evening at the nearby Golf Course in Les Forges

Lac De Maison - combines a wonderful rural location, fantastic accommodation, excellent facilities and charming hosts.

What more could you ask for from a relaxing family break in France? Thoroughly recommended!

“Outstanding, didn't want to leave!”
Reviewed 22 April 2012 for a stay in April 2012

Although I am about to repeat what many of the previous reviews have said, I still felt motivated to make my first tripadvisor contribution in several years (and I travel a lot). My wife & I stayed over Easter with our 2-year-old son in the Hollyhock cottage.

Simon & Anna have truly set up a fantastic destination at Lac de Maison. The ambience is *very* relaxed (rural France, so no noise apart from birdsong, I even saw a cuckoo and nightingales!). and quite pretty (it's a converted courtyard farm complex, set well away from any major roads). On-site they cater to all needs, by providing plenty of entertainment options, including a wide selection of bicycles (plenty of good cycling in the area), and lots of outdoor games (sandpit, boules, badminton etc.) in the 3-4 acre grounds. There is also an indoor play barn, that has a ground floor for younger children (easels, drawing facilities, bouncy castle, dressing up etc. etc.) and a first floor for bigger kids (Wii, air hockey, pool, table football).

But beyond the excellent facilities, what really made our holiday truly a holiday were the hosts, Simon & Anna. They really do put their guests first, and we really didn't want to go home at the end of the week. Particularly fantastic was the cooking. We had said before we went that we would like to take advantage of their cooking for 2 nights, but the quality was so high (you can see that they have many years of restaurant experience) that we ended up asking them to cook for us for 5 of the 7 nights that we were there. Total gluttony on our part, but I guarantee you will face the same dilemma when you try Anna's fish pie!

Highly recommended! If you have kids, this is a *fantastic* choice!
