“A wonderful stay in a beautiful rural idyll”
Reviewed 4 July 2018 for a stay in June 2018

We stayed in Rose Cottage in Lac de Maison for 8 nights in June with our 2 boys (3 & 6) and it really was the perfect holiday. Simon and Anna are wonderful hosts (friendly and helpful, but unobtrusive) and the set up is stuff of dreams for kids. There is open space aplenty, safe to let the kids run free, great play facilities (indoor and outdoor), lovely warm safe pool and farm animals galore, whom our boys loved playing with. The house was gorgeous, traditional in style and beautifully decorated and fully stocked with every possible convenience, including a nespresso machine and pods! We also availed of Annas lovely cooking and pizza night also, which I highly recommend. Overall a brilliant place and we can't wait to return. You definitely need a car as it is very rural, but we combined our trip here with a stay in Ile de Ré as well which is 1.5 hr drive away and worked out a perfect combination or countryside and then beach. We had a look in the other gites too and they are all excellent, spotless and so well equipped, especially for those with young kids. Can't wait to go back!

“Perfect break for families”
Reviewed 29 August 2017 for a stay in July 2017

We have stayed at Lac de Maison two years in a row now and I can't think of one negative thing to say about our time spent there. Simon and Anna are fantastic hosts and have thought of everything to make a stay with kids as stress-free as possible. Our children (1 and 9) love the play areas, the pool, the animals and the fantastic grounds where they can run around to their hearts content.

The gites are lovely inside (we've stayed in Rose and Hollyhock) and brilliantly equipped, no need to worry about packing loads of extra stuff for the kids as its all there.

The region is beautiful and there are loads of lovely towns and villages to explore (including the local village of Vasles which has all the shops you need and a great little bar - make sure you go to the bakers and the butchers, both amazing). We tended not to go too far, preferring to spend time lazing around the pool while the kids enjoyed themselves or riding the bikes into the village for a coffee and cake. If you do decide to head further afield, Poitiers (30 mins in the car) is a lovely City with some great restaurants and quaint squares.

We never thought we were the type of people to go back to the same place year after year, but we are already contemplating booking up for next summer!

“Excellent family friendly super safe and relaxed holiday”
Reviewed 8 June 2016 for a stay in May 2016

Beautiful place, secluded, relaxed, informal, perfect for kids of all ages, great hosts.
Lovely French countryside, some great days out all close by, for rain and sunshine.
Bike rentals, pizza and wine nights, delicious food cooked and brought to your cottage.
Very friendly, approachable couple who live on site but you wouldn't know it they keep their distance and aren't over bearing, they let you enjoy your holiday as if it were your own home but are there for advice and help when needed. Enjoyed chatting to this lovely couple about their French adventure!
Would love to come again when the boys are a bit older with some other families so we can fully relax whilst they play together. Great facilities for children.

“fabulous holiday - perfect for a young family”
Reviewed 14 August 2015 for a stay in August 2015

We had a week's holiday in Rose Cottage at the beginning of August and had a super time. We travelled with our three young children (7, 5 and 2) and the freedom and range of activities they experienced at Lac de Maison was awesome! Its safe to say bedtimes go out of the window but thats because everyone is having such a lovely time.

Rose cottage was great- plenty of space, gorgeous living room and lovely new bathroom. Pool was really warm and the safety alarm was very reassuring for me in particular with a busy 2 year old! Highlights included pony rides, feeding Megan and Rosie, Anna and Simon's amazing cooking, cycle ride to the golf club and watching my youngest daughter attach herself to Simon all week!

Can't wait to return!

“Another stay - another perfect holiday”
Reviewed 28 July 2015 for a stay in June 2015

We returned to Lac de Maison in June following such a brilliant holiday here last year. With two other families, we rented all three gites and once again enjoyed the huge range of facilities to offer.
The addition of the baby goats, pirate ship and new bikes (including the two Anna & Simon bought brand new for us after we enquired about bikes for 4 year olds - thank you guys!!) were just the icing on the cake. As last year, the heated pool, sandpits, trampolines and indoor play barn were a huge hit and used daily.
It was lovely to catch up with Anna & Simon again, like meeting with old friends, and we were lucky enough sample their fabulous cooking on more than one occasion.
This was our first stay in rose cottage and it was more than big enough for our family of four, in fact could easily have accommodated at least another family. The home-from-home comforts are always a relief after a long journey, the generous welcome pack and comfortable beds with lovely clean bedding and cosy pillows/duvets were appreciated! A really positive thing to note is that the upkeep of Lac de Maison is brilliant, Anna & Simon are always on hand if anything needs replacing/fixing (lightbulbs & clock batteries in our case) and the complex was as wonderfully maintained as it was a year ago.
We would certainly love to return in the future & a huge thank-you for helping us reunite with "softy red octopus" x

“Very relaxing holiday for my wife & I and fantasic fun for our 2 young girls (aged 3 & 18 mths) highly recommended!!”
Reviewed 26 July 2015 for a stay in June 2015

Anna and Simon were the perfect hosts, very approachable and keen to offer assistance if required but not over bearing. My wife and our two young girls stayed in Rose Cottage which was excellent and had all the facilities you could wish for, everything you would need for young children was provided from a high chair to cutlery, toys and a cot. This made packing far less hassle and it was clear that Anna and Simon had put a lot of thought into providing facilities that would cater for families with children.

Rose cottage is perfectly located, only 50 paces (as are all the gites in fact) from the amazing heated swimming pool which the kids loved and we spent at least an hour a day playing on the inflatables and splashing about and cooling off from the beautiful weather we had that week. Our eldest particularly enjoyed riding on the shetland pony, collecting eggs, stroking the goats and sitting in her twin bike buggy with her little sister as my wife and I cycled along the beautifully quiet country roads with them both laughing away behind us all the way. Even on the only day it rained we had fun as we spent most of that day in the play barn dressing up, drawing, playing musical instruments and playing with the enourmous selection of toys on offer.

All in all this was the most relaxing holiday my wife and I have had since we started our family and the kids absolutely loved it! There was so much for them to do that they just didn't get bored and as a bonus tired themselves out every day in what was a fun and more importantly a safe environment.

To be honest there was so much to do at Lac De Maison that we didn't actually explore as much as we had originally planned, however we have no regrets as that was only due the kids having so much fun that we never felt the need to go further afield and anyway, we can always explore more the next time we go!!

Bottom line, this was an amazing family holiday, which my wife and I highly recommend!

Thank you Anna and Simon!

PS Try the home cooked food that Anna and Simon offer, we loved all the meals but especially the lasagna, so much so we had it twice....Mmmmm

“Relaxing family holiday in a rural idyll with everything we needed”
Reviewed 26 July 2015 for a stay in July 2015

We stayed in Rose cottage for a week in July 2015 with our four year old son. It was easily the most relaxing holiday that we have had since becoming parents - we even read books!

The outside play equipment, including pirate ship, slide, swings and trampolines gave our son hours of entertainment. The swimming pool was great for cooling off in the afternoons when it was too hot to play any longer. It was a generous size for only the three cottages on site and was always kept spotlessly clean. Although we didn't have much rain during our stay, the indoor play barn was also used daily and the huge selection of dressing up clothes throughly enjoyed. The bikes, which are free for guests to use as they please, were one of our favourite things. There was a good selection of bikes for all ages and sizes as well as tag along trailers, child seats and helmets. There are some really beautiful (and flat) country bike rides straight from the cottages.

Rose cottage was again spotlessly clean and equipped with everything we needed and more - there were even bath toys provided! The beds were comfy and we all slept well. The arrival pack of food was genuinely useful, not just a token effort. We had an arrival meal cooked by Anna, which was simply delicious, even though we arrived late! The TV had loads of English channels, and most importantly CBeebies. That, and the huge selection of DVDs were about the only things that got our son to sit still all week.

We did have plans to do some day trips out, but never quite managed to tear ourselves away from Lac de Maison for very long. We had lots of lazy days sitting in comfy chairs, chatting with other guests and watching our children all make friends and enjoy freedom on a scale they're never normally used to at home.

Anna and Simon have clearly worked hard to create a truly special place, which caters so well for the needs of young families. They seem to have effortlessly found the right balance between being on hand and being quietly discreet in the background. We look forward to going back again.
