Living locally we have seen a couple of owners of this establishment and our visit the Friday before last did not disappoint at all. Three generations went for an early evening meal, and all 3 of us were treated well, the staff were friendly, and the food was lovely. Mum thought her lamb tagine was amazing, any My daughter demolished her mussels. Please keep on what you are doing. We will be back!

We came here during our last stay in Borth Y Gest and had lovely drinks two or three times but did not eat. This time we stopped for coffee one day and was made very welcome (and our dog) we then came for evening meal with family later in the week. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the new owners seem to be doing well and have the menu about right (for us anyway, 2 meat eaters and 2 veggies) the veggie platter was especially delicious. They put heaters out at night so you can sit out and watch the bay if you want. Will go again when we next visit. Hope they manage to keep it going during the winter months too as there isn't a lot around that time of year.

Having wanted to eat here for some time but failing to do so on previous visits to the area, I was looking forward to a laid back lunch. Well, we got that in terms of the service and not in a positive way. Ok so they were expecting 2 larger groups but so what? You gave us a table, we wanted to order, what's the issue. Eventually got our order taken by the boss as the 3 other waitresses just seemed to mooch about for the duration of our time in the restaurant. One could clearly see we'd finished but just turned her back to us - oh dear!
The dishes chosen were very nice with good flavours and we enjoyed them.
One course of watching the service pantomime was enough to make us want to not linger longer . Sorry but would think seriously before we spent our money there again.

Borth y Gest is a lovely tiny village near Porthmadog, and we frequently walk along the beach there. We noticed that The Moorings had re-opened and stopped for a coffee and toasted teacake this morning. The staff were so welcoming, and although we only ordered a lite-bite they could not have been more friendly. The tea-cakes were huge, and with REAL BUTTER! and the coffee great as well. We had a look at their evening menu, which looked great, so will certainly be booking a table there soon. It's an ideal location, and we were lucky that the weather was warm enough to sit outside and enjoy the fantastic sea view, but the inside also looked lovely and cosy, and I'm sure it will be great in the winter. The new proprietors I believe all met when they worked together in Portmeirion, and are passionate about serving good locally sourced food when possible, and I'm sure that they will make a great success of their new venture.

We were lucky enough to be in Borth-y-Gest on a perfect summer day(19th June 2014).After walking along the cliff path and admiring the wonderful views we felt like a spot of lunch The Moorings looked so welcoming with people sitting out on the terrace.Unfortunately all the outside tables were taken but we found a table inside with a view.We ordered Welsh Rarebit which was served on a wooden board with a salad garnish and crisps. The helpings were generous and very tasty. The staff were all friendly and helpful and the restaurant was clean and tidy....including the loo! We will return to Moorings when we next visit North Wales .
