We come back time and time again because it is such a lovely little pub in a fantastic location. One of our favourite summer afternoons out is to park at Goytre Wharf and walk along the canal, then take the road up into the hills. It's a steep pull up to the Goose but you are well rewarded. We love to sit outside in the garden with the hens clucking around our feet. This is a great place to bring visitors and impress them with the beauty of Wales.

Visited today and had a really great meal. Opted for the locally made faggots and mash....served with 5 vegetables, all beautifully prepared.
It was simple, well cooked and prepared food. The waitress was friendly, and had time for a brief chat..mainly about the beer festival the previous weekend!

This funny little pub is above Llanover in Monmouthshire and is reached up some very narrow lanes. Entering it one could be stepping back 100 years. There is no television, no music and mobile phones are banned. The landlady is not over friendly, but this is made up for by the regulars. The beer is excellent (Gwent Area Pub of the Year 2009) and the food though basic is well prepared.

I am not sure it is worth the drive, but that said, if you are out walking the Drovers' Road between Blaenavon and Abergavenny, it is well worth stopping off for a pint or even lunch. The pub also offers overnight accommodation

No internet connection and dogs are tolerated rather than welcomed.

This pub is unique and special, I would be so sad if it ever closed as it has a charm which modern pubs lack. It is set in beautiful countryside and every visit is rewarding, whatever the season. It is my favourite pub in South Wales.

I rarely feel compelled to write a review about anywhere but I and the people who visited this pub where so disgusted with the rudeness and hostility of the landlady, that I feel the need to share my disappointment. It is the second time that I have visited this place, the first time not being overwhelmed by the service but not really put out by it. However, during the second visit, the landlady was rude and extremely inhospitable. There is a ridiculous rule in this place that states no mobiles are to be used on the premises as it is anti social. At this time my partner's phone kept picking up the WiFi that was obviously set up in the pub. This caused the landlady to be extremely rude toward us. If you do not want phones picking up your WiFi, don't have open WiFi. I can safely say that I, nor any of the people that visited with me that day, will ever set foot in that place again, not at least whilst it is under the management of such an ignorant and rude person.

Been going here for years, Quite hard to find if you didn't know the area or without an OS map. Small very old pub frequented by walkers, mountain bikers, etc. Nice and peaceful, beer garden next to chickens, geese and goats. Tiny restaurant with great view from the windows. The menu may be limited, but is always great homemade food. Most main courses come with a mixture of vegetables or salad, always tasty and fresh. Prices are very good for such lovely food. For a tasty snack I also recommend their filled rolls with delicious bread, which you can have with salad. Carol and the other lady who sometimes helps out are always very friendly hosts.
