“Rubbish management”
Reviewed 28 May 2013

I booked two nights in a double room, through a hotel site (not this one). I got a twin room.

We got there so late the first night that we just went to bed, but in the morning when I went to get our room simply swapped and refunded the difference for the night, the manager was less than helpful. Instead of apologising straight away and doing what he could, he just tried to defend the fact that I got the wrong room. Just no idea about customer service. It was like I had done something wrong, which I hadn't.

In the end, when we were leaving he wasn't there and the old woman who was there said she couldn't help. She was rubbish too and I had to leave without anything being sorted in terms of an apology or a refund. // Added to this, the toilet wouldn't flush properly and the shower was a dribble. Altogether rubbish, when you consider I paid 80 pound a night for this. (Incidentally, the friendly female staff - not the old woman - were very pleasant). Find somewhere else to stay.

Room Tip: The shower in room 6 is a dribble, not a shower.

The room was not in the charming hotel as we expected, but just across from a little gardened area adjacent to the back of the hotel. The first night's sleep was very uncomfortable due to the mattress, we mentioned this to staff and they very quickly changed the mattress over for a new one and thanked us for letting them know. Overall it was a pleasant stay, and we would stay there again.

We attended last Saturday. On arrival we stood around waiting for too long, then when we were shown to our table, the table was so close to the next one l couldnt get in. We had to move it, while the waitress stood and looked on. When we did get seated, we got the menu, and no wine list, no offer of drinks, so we just sat there waiting, and waiting. The staff didnt seem to know what to do, they dealt with all the other tables, while we waited, and waited. Eventually my wife got up to ask for the wine list, then a waitress appeared to take our order, tbut forgot to bring something to write on. The starters of Camembert were OK, rather bland and tasteless, nothing special. The meat main courses were very good, cooked well, but the presentation was very poor, the salads were ok.The deserts were not good at all, Banana desert, tasteless, ice cream, lots of ice flecks in it, dont bother, it's a shame because it could be good, but not yet, we were the last to leave a 9.30 which seems very early to have no customers, on a saturday evening, which should be your busy night.

on arrival taken to room 3, aircon not working and staff said "Why doesn't that work, oh well I'll leave it with you." then she left. We did get it working ourselves. The shower just dribbled water out and couldnt get a reasonable wash. Although single storey accomodation people were living in the roof space(probably staff) and loud footsteps heard all evening. We were woken at 0545 by people walking above us. The breakfast room was very cold and we ate in our coats. The food at breakfast was alright. The lord Byron menu for evening meal was typical pub food so we ate at the Green Man approx 150 yards away, an amazing meal for the price.

Room Tip: avoid room 3

Very friendly pub with a good range of beer and cide. Decor is traditional i.e. not modernise. The menu sounded promising but when it arrived the food was disappointing,. Friends have reported similar disappointment with quality of the food.

i started this week working in the Cambridge area, and with most central hotels being out of my companys budget, i opted to stay here ....now known as The Lord Byron Inn. This had everything i wanted for my one night stay. Comfortable clean room, ample parking, friendly staff, smooth check in, free wi fi in the room, decent bar meals, real ale on hand pump and a very good quality breakfast. I would certainly return...... Off to Tunbridge next
