Ivybridge Guest House

We stayed at Ivybridge for one night on our way to Eire and again for a night on our return. The bedroom was very convenient for my husband, who is on crutches, and although basically furnished was clean and comfortable. The food was delicious and Will's scallops were better than any we had in Eire - cooked to perfection. I would also say his fish pie is one of the best I've ever had. All I would ask for next time would be a bar of soap rather than a packet of liquid soap - a very small criticism!!!

Room Tip: The room we had was called 'The Barley Store' and organised for anyone with challenged mobil...

Stayed a couple of nights in July 2011 when exploring the St Davids area.
Hotel is in Goodwick, not Fishguard, but must be convenient for ferry travellers. Easy to find given instructions on web.
Room was dated and most of the work on it and the bathroom had clearly been a DIY job rather than professionally done. Bed comfortable. Some noise from adjacent bedrooms and presumably other guests noticed the lack of soundproofing.
Had dinner first evening upon arrival. Scallops delicious. Fish pie way too much mash (for our taste) and too little fish.
No fresh fruit or yoghourt to go with cereals at breakfast so we bought our own at Tesco Metro down the road for day 2. Shouldn't have really been necessary in this day and age.
Free WiFi which was great.
Didn't use pool - it really was minute.
The Ivybridge is probably OK for a one-nighter prior to or after a ferry, but is nothing special for a holiday stay.

In March I emailed 5 hotels and asked what they could offer for a five night stay for dinner b. & b. The Ivybridge was the first to reply, made a great offer so we went to Wales. (1 hotel replied the day before we went, and 1 still has not replied!) We received an excellent welcome. The dinner was excellent. Scallops and mussels particularly recommended. Room was a good size, clean and very comfortable beds. Good hot water. Jusband had chest infection, so lack of appetite made him unable to do justice to excellent meals. A really good relaxing week, made better by helpful owners.

Room Tip: not for nightlife!

We had the great pleasure of staying at the Ivybridge before our ferry to Ireland. We arrived late into the evening and enquired about food, without hesitation, Will reopened the restaurant and produced an exceptional freshly cooked meal for four in 30 minutes! Nothing here seems to be too much trouble and that to us means more than the fancy frills that the bigger chains cans offer!! we will make this a regular stop!!

Ivybridge Guest House is a gem. I stumbled upon it, but I'll be returning as often as possible. Located near the Fishguard ferry to Ireland and trains to Cardiff, Ivybridge is close to lots of Pembroke destinations, for fishing, hiking, horse-back riding, and, of course, Saint David's. There's plenty of car parking or buses to take you throughout the area. Fishguard Bay, a short walk from the B&B, itself is beautiful and the protected bog is a special trek for birdwatchers and botanists or just plain walkers.

The chef at Ivybridge produces excellent meals at breakfast and for dinner. There's a spa and indoor swimming pool as well. The staff is helpful and friendly. The rooms are clean and comfortable.

Even within the building, there are fascinating historical pictures and antique carpentry tools.

We frequently travel to the countryside and do not look for 5* accomodation. Just a clean comfortable room that takes a small well behaved dog.
The room was not clean.
There were left over 'gummy bears' under the bed and sweet wrappers. We arrived late and didn't notice the left overs til morning. I brought one gummy bear to the front desk and asked if they could give the room a good clean. When we came back to the room about 5pm the room had not even been cleaned.
The state of the room is shabby. Carpet is worn and shredding. The slatted bed has a very thin mattress. The extension cord is hanging from the wall. The noise from the room above is very apparent. The price of £75 per night is steep for a noisy, shabby, unclean room. We were going to stay 3 nights but cut it to 2 nights.
The breakfast could be improved. The coffee is instant most places today offer filter. I do realize that is simply a personal preference. There is cereal and toast. The cooked breakfast is all fried. No fruit and they could not even make a boiled egg when requested.
My suggestion is find an alternative and in the price range there are many available. There is much to do and see in the area and many hotels and B&B's to stay in.

It is now four years since I discovered Ivybridge Guest House and I've been visiting it at least three times a year to get away from the stresses of being self-employed. The standard o service has been consistantly at the top of my experience of such hotels. The rooms are scrupulously clean and extremely comfortable. The food is carefully prepared without attempting to compete with the sort of nouvelle cuisine that you get in swanky restaurants (I do like to finish a meal feeling that I've really been fed!!) The staff are very obliging and will bend over backwards to make sure that you're happy with everything. The decor is tasteful and they've just finished redecorating the lounge and dining room. It looks lovely.

Added to all this, they have a small, indoor swimming pool. Be warned, it is small; you can move across it in three strokes, but, after a hard day exploring the beautiful Pembrokeshire countryside, who would want to do Olympic style lengths? Not me!!

This hotel is a gem. I've already booked up to go again at the end of next month and I can't wait.
