“Little gem”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 July 2014 via mobile

We have stayed a few times now, both in the car and on our motorbikes. Lovely accommodation in the pub and a decent chalet with extra space for our bike gear. We have always had good service from John and the meals are fabulous! Due to its location the opening times are restricted, however you have to appreciate this so it is not a problem.
We will go back when we can but not as often as we would like to.I would recommend The Red Lion for its location, food, host and accommodation.

“Poor service”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 July 2014

You don't get the feeling the staff here make any effort to make visitors feel welcome. We waited 5 minutes for a young man to appear behind the bar despite ringing the bell twice. I'd describe him as monosyllabic except that he couldn't even manage "please" or "thank you". The food was home cooked pub grub and pretty tasty to be fair, but the décor badly needs updating and new bar staff employed.

“Lovely place to stay for short break”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 June 2014

2 night stay as part of riding weekend .
8 of us in total but 2 of us not riding, John had excellent advice regarding walks for us.
Slept in room in 'chalet' outside. Very clean and comfortable.
All food recommended, especially breakfast. Local sausages and bacon and fresh home made bread.
John runs the place almost with military precision, but it works.
Definitely recommended for group of friends.
Also dog friendly !

“The worst Roasted potatoes I've ever tasted”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 May 2014

I called in here on the way back from Builth Wells, The warm welsh welcome from the the young man behind the bar was sadly missing and the Traditional Sunday lunch was let down by the lack of boiled potatoes instead of the numerous horrible roasties, which appeared to be of the frozen catering variety as I suspect were the rest.of the veg.
The portion sizes and presentation were good and it would have been a good value meal apart from it not exciting the tastebuds, or in other words bland! Like the man behind the bar!
I suppose you have to depend upon the freezer when you offer such a large menu and still make a profit.,

“just ok”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 April 2014

There was much confusion when we arrived for our meal. We sat at our table and waited for someone to bring the menus and take an order for drinks - then we discovered we needed to go to the bar, but they hadn't told us. The confusion continued as one member of staff said our order for food would be taken at the table and then another told us to go to the bar.
Eventually our order was taken and our food arrived. It was ok but nothing special.
If you go ask for a table in the bar, it seemed to be far more cosy than the cold dining room where we were placed. That area really lacks any atmosphere.
