Every Tuesday me and my girlfriend, my son and a couple of friends go to this pub for food. Service was spot on until the end when my girlfriend asked if it was ok to pay £8.95 on her debit card. The manager was on the bar and his tone instantly changed; he exclaimed to her that the restaurant would get a 3% charge for the use of a debit card as the amount was less than £10. My girlfriend offered to get the cash out of the free cash machine next to the bar and he remarked that there was no point now as he had nearly completed the sale but that she should know for future reference that the restaurant does not take card payments for under £10 but 'I suppose that it'll do just this once' his tone was disgraceful and made my girlfriend feel inferior as she felt that she was being spoken to like a parent would talk down to their child. It was only on the way home when me and my girlfriend reflected on what had happened that we realised that 3% of 8.95 was 26pence! we will not be going back to the restaurant anytime soon as when we go to restaurants we like to be treated with respect and just basic manners in all honesty which we did not get from that manager. It was more shocking because the waitress that served us was one of the loveliest people you could imagine and she was brilliant with the children and in previous occasions when we have visited we have been treated respectfully by all members of staff.

We are both appalled by what you have told us and by what we found out when we investigated this further. We are far from happy with this situation. The person whose behaviour you mention did want to write to you himself to apologise; however, Bev and I wanted to do this.

We are sincerely sorry and in the hope of trying to put things right would like you to email or call us. Unfortunately the email address you sent your complaint from is not a valid address as we have tried to respond.

sincere apologies and kind regards

Bev & Chris

The Owners have spent a small fortune transforming a worn down pub into a modern themed family friendly bar and restaurant. The furnishings are of a high standard and the outdoor area is greatly improved, irrespective of whether you like life size horse statues and teepees. Inside there is a bar and separated restaurant. Again the dominating theme is the Wild West so there is a life siize stallion at one end complete with cowboy and similar at the other complete with Indidan.
Whether you like this or not is subjective - not to my taste and a shame that it is SO family orientated and SO heavily themed.
The tables are heavy wood but can be moved around to accommodate different numbers. Unfortunately the tables are slightly too high for those individuals sat on the padded perimeter seating. Not too problematic but a bit of a nuisance.
Now on to the food. The menu is pricey in comparison to other local pubs and restaurants. Thje menu is comparable to Hickorys in Chester. When we arrived ( party of 4 ) we were seated quickly and the young staff were friendly. Unfortunately, our pre dinner drinks were brought with the wine we had ordered for during the meal, and also alongside the starters. The main course were brought before the table was cleared of our starters, which was irritating.
The food overall was ok I had deep fried Brie wedges but when they arrived the Brie had escaped and run all over the plate leaving a breadcrumbed soggy mess on the plate. Everyone elses choice, however was fine. For mains, I chose Scampi which was fine, but surely you cant do much to mess up scampi and chips. Our friend who had ribs, said they were really good - some of the best he had had. Sadly, the[presentation of this dish left a lot to be desired. Everything, and I do mean everything, including a whole orn on the cob, rack of ribs, and all accompaniments were crammed onto a regular sized dinner plate. The trick seemed to be to guess how on earth you would tackle it !It just looked a mess.
Overall, I feel that attention to detail has been given to the fixtures and fittings , even though its not to my taste and is likely to exclude those of us who are past the loud family fun pub scene, you can see that it is of a high standard. The staff are young but really need more training in Customer service, how to pace drinks and service of food. The food is slightly overpriced and average to good. If western food is what they want to serve they wouldnt go far wrong in popping over to Hickorys to see how a very similar menu is presented in a way that whets the appetite rather than puts you off.

6 of us visited for our sisters birthday last week, having booked. On arrival it was busy and we waited 10-15 mins for our table, fair enough. We were shown to our table and ordered our food and drinks. Drinks arrived almost straight away served by a young man who looked like he really didn't want to be there. I got the feeling he didn't like wearing his 'cowboy cravat' round his neck! Food next after about 15 mins and it was just as you would expect from this type of place i.e. themed type family-ish foody type pub! Better than the big chain (w*****sp**ns) but only on a par with that one in Ewloe (r*****g h**e) the main difference being the price, this place is a bit steep £18.95 for fillet steak, £13.95 for rump I think. Ok not a fortune for steaks but more than you would usualy pay in a pub. My fillet was ok, I asked for medium rare it was more like medium I think.
We had a few more drinks and the ladies had dessert. Served by a few different people and apart from one or two the rest of the staff really looked unhappy.
I don't know what the total bill was, I didn't pay.
Would I go again? Yes if someone suggested it and I thought the staff might smile a bit.
Would I make a special effort to go here again? No, afraid not. Not much wrong, just not enough right to draw me back.
