We wanted a relaxing, peaceful break after a busy Christmas and New Year, and our stay at Brynarth gave us exactly that and more. The guest house is situated in a beautiful, tranquil location and we relaxed the moment we arrived. The owners greeted us with a very warm welcome and showed us around the guest house and then to our cosy and homely room. After we had unpacked, we booked our evening meal and then set off out for the afternoon. We hadn't been to the area for quite a few years, and we'd forgotten how stunning the scenery is and how much there is to do. We returned from our afternoon out to a delicious home cooked evening meal. After dinner, we went through to the lounge where we sat on the big, comfy sofas by the roaring fire and enjoyed a drink from the bar. There are plenty of books and local information to keep you occupied. The following morning, we had a walk through Brynarths grounds. As you walk away from the house, you find benches that are perfectly positioned for you to sit and take in the view, watch the bird and wild life or just enjoy the peace. It is with thanks to the owners, that our stay at Brynarth has been the most relaxing break we've had. We will definately be returning to this wonderful, fabulous guest house.

We spent New Year at Brynarth on a special deal package offered by the new owners. Upon arrival we were met with tea and mince pies in front of a roaring log fire in the very cosy lounge. The first thing that struck us was the peace and quiet which was a welcome relief after a very busy Christmas. Brynarth offers many things, from the lovely setting to great hospitality and a real sense of being "away from it all". It's easy to get to nearby Aberystwyth and Aberaeron but if you want to totally chill out and stay put its also ideal. You can walk from the grounds on several marked paths which we didn't do but will attempt next time we go if we are not feeling so lazy! The bar is a welcome treat on cold wet evenings, and the lounge is perfect for a relaxing night in front of the fire. We loved the "no tv" in our room as it forced us to switch off and read one of the many books on offer dotted around the various nooks and crannies. The place has old traditional character and has been lovingly furnished. Our room was simply furnished in a rustic style and the comfy bed/feather duvet made it hard to get up in the morning even when tempted by a freshly cooked breakfast.
A word of advice to fellow travellers, the rooms come with black out blinds and if you need a long lie in without traffic noise it's perfect. We overslept most days!
It is a charming place to stay. Chickens roam around the courtyard, sheep graze on the nearby fields and the hosts are friendly and welcoming. A perfect get away once you find it!

We stayed at Brynarth over the New Year. New owners James and Stu were fantastic and we felt very welcome from the minute we arrived. Everything was first class and top notch - scenary, food and accommodation couldn't have been any better. Would recommend you try the evening meals as well. Lovely location all seasons and only short drive from centre of Aberystwyth. All our needs catered for and would highly recommend a stay to anyone. Thank you for making our New Year extra special.

Room Tip: We stayed in one of the rooms in the Farmhouse.

If you want peace and quiet, fantastic hospitality and food then head for Brynarth. Cathy and Ian have managed to strike the perfect balance between hosting your stay and remaining unobtrusive. They are there to welcome you with tea and welsh cakes, show you to your rooms, serve food and drinks in the lounge. They are both very knowledgeable about the area and have maps to hand if you need them. The evening meal was superb - we wished we had booked a meal for our second night. Welsh lamb cooked to perfection and roast pototoes I still dream about. Breakfast ordered the night before was cooked at the time we requested it and was hot and cooked to perfection. Be warned though - no TV in the bedrooms and little mobile phone signal - absolute bliss! No variation in rates according to season either. Definately B&B at its best and we would certainly return. Congratulations both - you do an amazing job.

Room Tip: Rooms in the old farmhouse are brilliant.

If you're sat trying to decide where to stay in central Wales, stress no further and book Brynarth as quickly as possible.

Thank you to Ian & Cathy for a brilliant stay, excellent hosts with local knowledge, complimented by tranquil setting and very comfortable accommodation. Tasty local produce for breakfast and a well stocked bar if you stay in front of the fire otherwise plenty of places to visit surrounding.

Thank you and hope you'll have us again, C, C & Millie the dog.

We have stayed at Brynarth several times now since our son first became a student at nearby Aberystwyth University and the welcome is still as warm as ever. Ian and Cathy are perfect hosts and offer a very comfortable stay together with beautiful surroundings and excellent hospitality. Nothing is too much trouble. Perfect for anyone visiting Aberystwyth or the surrounding areas and wanting a peaceful break away from it all. Not for those who want noise and night-life! Remote location so a car is essential unless you are on a walking holiday. Breakfast is plentiful and beautifully cooked. A residents lounge is available for relaxing (no televisions here!) and chatting with fellow guests over a glass of something from the bar in the evenings. A television is available in the games room/barn (handy when you have forgotten the last weekend of the 6 nations!). We love it here and would always choose Brynarth when visiting our son in Aberystwyth. Can thoroughly recommend this lovely guest house.

Brynarth Country Guest House is nestled in rural splendor amongst some of the most stunning scenery in the Ystwyth Valley. It is owned and run by James Dwyer & Stuart Betts and is situated within the beautiful countryside in the foothills of the Cambrian Mountains. Brynarth is ideally located to access not only the many attractions in Ceredigion, The Ystwyth and Elan Valleys but is close enough to easily enjoy the bustling coastal town of Aberystwyth itself. The 17th Century farmhouse and barns have been tastefully and sympathetically renovated in keeping with Brynarth's age and time in history, with two acres of bluebell woods included within it's eight acres of grounds, Brynarth hosts an abundance of wildlife - including regular fly-pasts by red kites, successfully re-populating this area of mid-Wales. Bats, owls and pheasants are usually both seen and heard daily. Crystal clear spring water comes down from the mountains to supply Brynarth even through the driest of summers. It is the perfect place to relax and unwind, whether for a weekend break or a longer stay, and if you're feeling more energetic there is so much countryside waiting to be explored, particularly by foot or bicycle. The accommodation includes two double rooms in the main farmhouse, both with large en-suite shower rooms, one with sitting area and dual aspect windows looking out over the countryside. All rooms are centrally-heated, have free Wifi, radio alarm clocks and hair dryers, tea and coffee making facilities, Welsh toiletries and egyptian cotton towels. Rooms are serviced each day to make your stay as comfortable as possible. An iron and ironing board are available on request. Our Bed and Breakfast rates include a cooked breakfast of your choice from our menu, plus fresh fruit, cereals, yoghurts and toast and preserves. We pride ourselves on offering as much local, fresh produce as we can, most of our eggs come from our own chickens! Breakfast is served in the warm and welcoming farmhouse Dining Room. Evening meals can be arranged for groups of four or more guests and are bookable in advance. Dinner is normally served at 7pm and comprises a set menu of two courses, a main course and dessert, with after dinner coffee/tea/mints for £25 per person. If you wish to dine with us please note that we require at least 48 hours notice. Packed lunches are also available by arrangement, if you are planning a day out walking or cycling. Guests can relax in front of a log fire in the lounge with it's adjoining licenced Snug Bar. We are fully licensed with a good range of beers, wines and spirits. To enhance the evenings, there is a separate Games Barn where one can enjoy table tennis, pool & darts, here there is also a large colour television with comfy sofas. We have a large car park and also offer secure, covered parking to motorcyclists and cycles. We welcome 'Well-behaved' dogs by prior arrangement only.
