Reviewed 4 June 2013

Stopped here for a couple of nights as a base for three days of mountain biking.

Room had an ensuite with bath to ease my tired legs and was good value for single occupancy.

Home cooking, log fires and a bar - need I say more ..

Brynarth is a perfect place to visit, everything about it is of the highest quality, I stayed for 5 nights and had the most wonderful time. James and Stuart are very knowledgeable about the area and can give loads of tips on places to visit. The rooms are delightful, food and service excellent (James' slow cooked lamb shank and Stuart's rhubarb crumble were delicious), really first class and really does deserve my 5 star rating. I am already planning to return in the summer as the weather wasn't the best, but then I was in the Welsh hills in April so the 2 lovely days were a bonus. The area is a photographers dream location, I am still working my way through the 800 pics that I took!! If you are after peace and tranquility in an idyllic setting then Brynarth has it all and an extra added bonus is the presence of Brian, the owners adorable Spoodle, thank you all for a fabulous break!!

A beautiful guest house set in idyllic countryside was what met us as we rolled up and tumbled out of our vehicles. We were working in Aberystwyth that evening, a short 20 minute drive away, but James and Stuart were more than happy to check us in earlier in the day so all we had to do when we returned was tuck into a supper of sandwiches, crisps and dips in the snug room by the bar.
Our rooms were very comfortable and we had use of wifi in the main farmhouse where we had breakfast and our evening meal. After a long walk the following day and after we met their Spoodle Brian, Stuart lit a beautiful fire in the living room and we lounged and chatted the afternoon away.
I would recommend Brynarth without hesitation and look forward to a return visit soon.

Brynarth is an absolute gem tucked away in the beautiful mid-Wales countryside. As well as the accommodation and grounds being absolutely stunning, James and Stuart who run the guest house, were the most wonderful hosts. We were given a really warm welcome on arrival, and they were brilliant at suggesting places we could go and visit and some beautiful country walks. In the evening we took them up on the offer of a home cooked meal, which was beautiful, and then we retired to the lounge and snug bar which had a lovely old open wood fire. Really loved all the personal touches – top marks all round. I can’t wait to go back!

Just 20 minutes drive to Aberystwyth, nestled in beautiful countryside is this absolute gem. The hosts Stuart and James are charm personified and give great attention to the little details like fresh flowers in your room and tea and welsh cakes served by the inglenook fireplace when we arrived. They even lit the route from the carpark with little lanterns for our return after dark. Everything is spotlessly clean, the breakfasts excellent and the bedlinen and towels topnotch. Read the other reviews and believe it all!!
Oh yes,and beg if necessary but you have to be introduced to Brian, the cutest dog ever, a spoodle who you will want to kidnap.

A lovely warm welcome awaited us on our arrival at this lovely old farmstead (300+ years old)set in rolling landscape in the Ceredigion countryside, about 20 minutes from Aberystwyth.

Lots of squishy sofas and rustic furniture gives the place a very homely feel. The bedrooms are spacious and warm, with very comfortable beds, tastefully decorated and nice hot showers.

Outside are plenty of benches in the lovely gardens where you can sit & take in the peace & tranquility of the surrounding countryside & hear the sounds of birdsong.

Both James & Stuart went out of thier way to make our stay special, whilst not being intrusive. sometimes a tricky balance to achieve. Whislt we did not have the evening meals, the breakfasts were very nice, with tasty local pork & leek sausages,

Everywhere was very clean and well maintained.

Whilst they are relative newcomers to the business, if they can sustain this level of passion and high standards, I have no doubt they will make it a great success.

Well done guys - looking forward to a return visit very soon!

Room Tip: Go for Farmhouse Room 1 - very cosy!

We have just returned from a wonderful two night stay at Brynarth. Welcomed into the warm cosy lounge by James and Stuart with tea, coffee and welsh cakes, things were looking good. A family of four, we had the double and twin with the shared bathroom which were ideal for us as we were all together in what felt like a family suite. These rooms, although without en-suite, were beautifully decorated, comfortable and warm and had everything that we needed and the family bathroom was available for our exclusive use.
The grounds of Brynarth are quiet, spacious and picturesque. We had the pleasure of running around the gardens with Brian, the adorable, friendly spoodle who the children loved and sitting drinking tea at the picnic table watching a multitude of birds fluttering from one bird feeder to another.
The evening meal and the breakfasts were delicious and being able to enjoy a drink in the snug bar was a lovely way to end the day.
The scenery around Brynarth is beautiful. As we were there with the children, we enjoyed a trip into Aberystwyth and to Devils Bridge Falls. On our next trip, we will want to don the walking boots and take a hike through the countryside.
One of the highlights of the stay was looking out at the amazing starlit sky on both nights. We've never seen anything quite like it.
All in all a fantastic stay which we will definitely want to repeat. Thank you James and Stuart.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Brynarth Country Guest House is nestled in rural splendor amongst some of the most stunning scenery in the Ystwyth Valley. It is owned and run by James Dwyer & Stuart Betts and is situated within the beautiful countryside in the foothills of the Cambrian Mountains. Brynarth is ideally located to access not only the many attractions in Ceredigion, The Ystwyth and Elan Valleys but is close enough to easily enjoy the bustling coastal town of Aberystwyth itself. The 17th Century farmhouse and barns have been tastefully and sympathetically renovated in keeping with Brynarth's age and time in history, with two acres of bluebell woods included within it's eight acres of grounds, Brynarth hosts an abundance of wildlife - including regular fly-pasts by red kites, successfully re-populating this area of mid-Wales. Bats, owls and pheasants are usually both seen and heard daily. Crystal clear spring water comes down from the mountains to supply Brynarth even through the driest of summers. It is the perfect place to relax and unwind, whether for a weekend break or a longer stay, and if you're feeling more energetic there is so much countryside waiting to be explored, particularly by foot or bicycle. The accommodation includes two double rooms in the main farmhouse, both with large en-suite shower rooms, one with sitting area and dual aspect windows looking out over the countryside. Just across the courtyard, The Old Dairy Barn has 5 delightful en-suite rooms, 2 being singles, plus a further double and a twin that share a bathroom and are ideal for use as a family 'suite' or small group. All rooms are centrally-heated, have free Wifi, radio alarm clocks and hair dryers, tea and coffee making facilities, Welsh toiletries and egyptian cotton towels. Rooms are serviced each day to make your stay as comfortable as possible. An iron and ironing board are available on request. Our Bed and Breakfast rates include a cooked breakfast of your choice from our menu, plus fresh fruit, cereals, yoghurts and toast and preserves. We pride ourselves on offering as much local, fresh produce as we can, most of our eggs come from our own chickens! Breakfast is served in the warm and welcoming farmhouse Dining Room. Evening meals can be arranged for groups of four or more guests and are bookable in advance. Dinner is normally served at 7pm and comprises a set menu of two courses, a main course and dessert, with after dinner coffee/tea/mints for £25 per person. If you wish to dine with us please note that we require at least 48 hours notice. Packed lunches are also available by arrangement, if you are planning a day out walking or cycling. Guests can relax in front of a log fire in the lounge with it's adjoining licenced Snug Bar. We are fully licensed with a good range of beers, wines and spirits. To enhance the evenings, there is a separate Games Barn where one can enjoy table tennis, pool & darts, here there is also a large colour television with comfy sofas. We have a large car park and also offer secure, covered parking to motorcyclists and cycles. We welcome 'Well-behaved' dogs by prior arrangement only.
