From the approach across the uplands to the warm welcome on the doorstep as we arrived, we knew that this just had to be one of those special places that you so often read about but rarely get the chance to visit. The location is idyllic - and that word is not used lightly on this occasion - it really is beautiful - and that beauty extends to the impeccably presented farmhouse accomodation itself. Both Cathy and Ian were everything that we could have hoped for as hosts - friendly, cheerful and helpful, making us feel at home immediately we stepped over the threshold. Our room was of good size, full of charm, with a really spacious en-suite complete with extra-large fluffy towels - heaven! The meal we had in the evening was incredible, served at our pace with plenty of time to savour and enjoy followed up by an equally enjoyable breakfast the next morning.
Sadly our stay on this occasion was far, far too short. This is definitely one of those places that you want to stay on - and on, and on in. Congratulations Cathy and Ian , you have created a really fantastic haven to relax and unwind in here. We greatly appreciated the time we shared with you and are confident that these sentiments will be echoed by all your future visitors - including us, of course when we come back to see you again!

While our boys took part in the 'Welsh Supercup' in Aberystwyth, we were very lucky to stay at Brynarth for a second time. Staying at Brynarth is like visiting friends, as Cathy and Ian offer true hospitality in every sense of the word. From cozy rooms, delicious breakfasts with home-made jams, to idyllic location and stunning views, Brynarth is the perfect get-away. Its location is ideal for exploring Mid-Wales and there is a wide range of information available to give you ideas. Make sure you book at least one evening meal in advance, to savour home-cooked food at its very best!!

This is the third time we have stayed at Brynarth this time for 3 nights with our two small boys and as always we had the best welcome we could wish for.

Arriving in beautiful sunshine Cathy and Ian welcomed us like old friends with tea in front of the farm house. The Farmhouse rooms as spotless and cosy as ever with lovely fabrics and comfortable bed. Lots of outdoor space to help wear the kids out searching for 'Lambchop', 'Tiny Tim' and all the cats!

Dinner was just superb - beautifully cooked local produce and lashings of fresh vegetables (some from the garden). Lovely snug bar/lounge to enjoy a drink before and after, especially once the boys were asleep.

Breakfast is equally as special - freshly cooked, locally sourced ingredients complimented with home made preserves and a steaming pot of tea, just divine

If you ever plan to travel to the Aberystwyth coast this is the only place to stay - Cathy and Ian have got everything just right and cannot do enough for you - a truly magical place in the deep Ceredigion countryside you will want to go back to again and again and again.

Best wishes to you both see you soon hopefully...
M, W, S and O. Kendal

It was my first time in Wales and it's a shate to spend just one night at Brynarth Country House. We received a very warm welcome from Cathy and everything is perfect, the room is fully country decorated and the lounge is in a perfect country style, full of books and other amenities. Very appreciated and recommended.

It feels like being invited to good friends. Breakfast and dinner are delicious, the lounge is cosy, especially with a bottle of (Cabernet) Shiraz. A game of table tennis in the games room sent us right back to the 80ies, it was great fun! Many many thanks to Cathy and Ian, staying with you was marvelous.

This is a lovely quiet location, down a narrow country lane. Proprietors (Ian & Cathy) were very friendly & helpful. Comfortable rooms, tasty breakfast with plenty of choice. We can also recommend eating out at the Black Lion Inn, about 10-15 minutes drive away.
Great walks nearby, Hafod especially.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Brynarth Country Guest House is nestled in rural splendor amongst some of the most stunning scenery in the Ystwyth Valley. It is owned and run by James Dwyer & Stuart Betts and is situated within the beautiful countryside in the foothills of the Cambrian Mountains. Brynarth is ideally located to access not only the many attractions in Ceredigion, The Ystwyth and Elan Valleys but is close enough to easily enjoy the bustling coastal town of Aberystwyth itself. The 17th Century farmhouse and barns have been tastefully and sympathetically renovated in keeping with Brynarth's age and time in history, with two acres of bluebell woods included within it's eight acres of grounds, Brynarth hosts an abundance of wildlife - including regular fly-pasts by red kites, successfully re-populating this area of mid-Wales. Bats, owls and pheasants are usually both seen and heard daily. Crystal clear spring water comes down from the mountains to supply Brynarth even through the driest of summers. It is the perfect place to relax and unwind, whether for a weekend break or a longer stay, and if you're feeling more energetic there is so much countryside waiting to be explored, particularly by foot or bicycle. The accommodation includes two double rooms in the main farmhouse, both with large en-suite shower rooms, one with sitting area and dual aspect windows looking out over the countryside. Just across the courtyard, The Old Dairy Barn has 5 delightful en-suite rooms, 2 being singles, plus a further double and a twin that share a bathroom and are ideal for use as a family 'suite' or small group. All rooms are centrally-heated, have free Wifi, radio alarm clocks and hair dryers, tea and coffee making facilities, Welsh toiletries and egyptian cotton towels. Rooms are serviced each day to make your stay as comfortable as possible. An iron and ironing board are available on request. Our Bed and Breakfast rates include a cooked breakfast of your choice from our menu, plus fresh fruit, cereals, yoghurts and toast and preserves. We pride ourselves on offering as much local, fresh produce as we can, most of our eggs come from our own chickens! Breakfast is served in the warm and welcoming farmhouse Dining Room. Evening meals can be arranged for groups of four or more guests and are bookable in advance. Dinner is normally served at 7pm and comprises a set menu of two courses, a main course and dessert, with after dinner coffee/tea/mints for £25 per person. If you wish to dine with us please note that we require at least 48 hours notice. Packed lunches are also available by arrangement, if you are planning a day out walking or cycling. Guests can relax in front of a log fire in the lounge with it's adjoining licenced Snug Bar. We are fully licensed with a good range of beers, wines and spirits. To enhance the evenings, there is a separate Games Barn where one can enjoy table tennis, pool & darts, here there is also a large colour television with comfy sofas. We have a large car park and also offer secure, covered parking to motorcyclists and cycles. We welcome 'Well-behaved' dogs by prior arrangement only. We have designated rooms that can accommodate your pet so please contact us first to check availability and requirements. We allow a maximum of 2 dogs per room.
