Stayed for one night in this small quaint hotel. We were given room 6 overlooking the Church ruin. Large wooden shutters on the window opened showing us the small restaurant opposite. A compact room but with a very comply bed. The Hotel entrance is dark and musty.
The stairs are grand old with large stone steps. Creaky floors and noisy doors but all with great charm.
Breakfast is taken down stairs in the cellar...lovely and pristine decorations and an offering of meats ,cheese, cereal, toast and plenty of tea of coffee.

Room Tip: The more you pay the bigger the room

We arrived fairly late but within the time given to find we could not park the car, and had to initially leave it on the street… and then move it late on the night. There was also a jazz festival going on the two days we stayed, which went on to 23:30 right outside the window, and to make things worse, a market set up outside our window at 7:00 next day!

On a positive note, the hotel is nice, clean and well run. Just check if there is anything on the days you stay!

Room Tip: not one overlooking the square on market days or when there is a music festival on!

We stayed here for two separate nights at the beginning and end of a walking tour of the Dordogne area.

Our first stay was perfect. On arriving just after lunch time we were checked in by the friendly owner who made us feel very much at home. We had a lovely, big room overlooking the square. The decoration was charming, the bed comfortable and the bathroom excellent. The WiFi connection was reliable and free. A little after 6am the next morning we were woken by the cheerful chatter and laughter of vendors setting up the weekly market.

A beautiful breakfast included delicious, fresh strawberries that must have been purchased at the stall outside the front door, a great selection of cereals, fresh bread, pastries, meats and cheeses, including local goat’s cheese.

We were very much looking forward to our return visit a week later, but....

Arriving after a six hour walk from Carnac we were again expecting to be accommodated in a spacious room. Instead we found ourselves in a series of small rooms – an entry hall/storage area, tiny bedroom with a view of the next building, and bathroom. The bed was very small – possibly a double and quite short. We did not have a restful night’s sleep.

As we were leaving at 7am to catch the 7.30 train, and would miss breakfast, the local tour operator suggested we might be able to get the hotel to provide a picnic breakfast to take with us. On broaching this subject with the owner he simply said “NO”. Apparently breakfast at 7.30 was the earliest we could get any food at the hotel. We were very disappointed, not least because this was one of the best hotel breakfasts we had in France, but also because we had paid for it in our tariff. We would happily have settled for some bread and cheese to take on the train.

I have to reduce my rating for this hotel due to the disparity between our lovely first visit and disappointing second visit.

Room Tip: Lovely big room overlooking the square if you check in early in the day. The small room we had on ou...

Adorable, charming place to stay in Souillac, across from the old Church and in a courtyard. Great find for a stay. The rooms are so nice, clean and just a great place to stay when in the area. You will love it. The owners are so pleased to have you stay in their piece of heaven, and the breakfast is included, and its is so so GOOD, plenty of items.

Wonderful old hotel with ancient central staircase, across the square from the medieval church. Our room was beautifully decorated, quiet, and perfectly clean. The bed could have been a bit more comfortable- one side more used than the other. Breakfast was fantastic - generous buffet of cheeses, yogurt, fruit, pastries and breads, and served in the old cellar which is nicely lit and decorated. Hosts were lovely, very helpful with directions, locking up our bikes safely, and checking that we had everything we needed. Great restaurant across the square too.

Souillac was a touch disappointing on a cold, damp December Monday evening. Virtually all bars and restaurants were closed. I had expected it to be bustling in the run up to Christmas. Clearly, not so.

However, this B & B hotel came up to scratch. Quaint, ancient building - neatly transformed into modern, comfortable rooms - good beds, hot water and CH. And free Wifi (Hilton hotels take note...).

We didn't have breakfast - it was 10 euros a head - and we are more used to staying in private B & B where breakfast is included. But that should not put anyone off staying here. Very friendly - excellent English speaking owner - if you can't manage with French.

I would rate Le Pavillon St. Martin excellent because of the charmingly restored building , a great location near the church, and two excellent hosts, Erick and Veronique. All of this at a reasonable price. We selected Souillac because of its central location for day trips to the various villages in the Dordogne, Lot and the Midi-Pyrenees. We purposely and rightly avoided the touristy Sarlat.

We had a large, quiet room on the back with two comfortable beds (one kind and one queen). The décor was pleasant French country and the bath very large. The common areas were nicely decorated in the period. The breakfast room on the lower level which might been a wine cellar, was light and cheerful. The breakfast hostess accommodated my somewhat strange request of serving morning coffee in bowls with hot milk which I remember having in France decades before as a kid. (A la recherche du temps perdu.)

The setting on a quaint square was noteworthy with its small Wednesday market and a special stamp exhibit in the Salle Saint Martin across the street. It was great fun for me to chat with the various vendors who patiently explained what they were selling. They were very nice even though they realized that I was a tourist and probably would not buy anything. I love the small French markets in the countryside which are so much more fascinating than Whole Foods or Vons. France has done some very beautiful commemorative stamps over the years and I enjoyed looking at them at the exhibit.

Erick and Veronique were extremely friendly and accommodating. I particularly enjoyed Erick’s French sense of humor with that sparkle in his eye.

Room Tip: The large room on the back was very pleasant.
