Outside car park has a blind spot where lighting at night is obliterated by tree foliage on a bend of the building, the entrance to the Reception up the steps has no handrail to assist guests.
Having a shower tray ( than a bath) in a room would have been much more acceptable for a handicapped person.

Ibis is an old French hotel chain that existed already in 1982, the first time I heard of it. It is part of the group ACCOR (Novotel, Sofitel, etc.) and has many locations in several countries besides France. I have already tried several foreign places like Lima, Vienna (the real one, in Austria!), Sao Paulo and Buenos Aires, for which I have already posted a review in Trip Advisor except for Buenos Aires, which I will do after my next visit, scheduled for January 2013.

In all Ibis hotels where I have been, I have found exactly the same thing, as you do in all McDonnalds worldwide... The only difference is the bathroom which is sometimes a normal one and sometimes an outrageous tiny block one foot higher than the rest of the room as at the Ibis "Centre Clemenceau" in Dijon, France.

They all offer a rather small room with basic Spartan comfort: there is a phone, a hair dryer and and AC (which works more or less and in Annecy-Cran Gevrier it would be rather less...) but NO refrigerator, NO microwave, NO iron nor ironing board, NO club chair where to sit and relax. But it is true that there would be no room where to put it, and at this Annecy suburbs location I can hardly move the chair far enough to sit down because the bed, which seems to be screwed to the floor, won't let it go any farther! They all have the same wooden green chair (sometimes it's black....) without padding and the same small padded stool with the same tablet running under the window.

For the past few years I've been coming to this Annecy-Cran Gévrier location when I come spend a weekend during the summer with my younger son Elden, who is a tenor and lives in the old Annecy. There is another location closer from my son but it is in the old Annecy, where parking is a nightmare, while this suburbs Ibis has free parking and is only five minutes from the old town by car.

Also, they offer an outstanding value for money if you reserve three days in a row BUT ONLY if you arrive on Friday and leave on Monday. If so, you may expect to pay in the 45 to 55 Euros range. Last July 2011, I paid 55 € because that was high season (July 29, 30 and 31, 2011) but this year I came in June (15, 16 and 17, 2012) and I only paid 43.40 € per night.

Furthermore, all Ibis hotels where I have been to, have an HONNEST CANCELLATION POLICY: you may cancel your reservation until 7 pm THE DAY OF ARRIVAL, the way it used to be everywhere but less and less nowadays when many hotels want you to cancel one, two or even several days before the day of arrival, or you lose your money, depending on how dishonest the owner is! Yes, let's not be afraid to use the appropriate word: DISHONEST! Naturally, they can get away with it because people accept this new horrendous policy, until the day their flight is cancelled at the last minute, as it has happened to me more than twenty times in the past thirty years (three times on AA in fifteen months in 2010-2011!), or they have an accident the day of arrival and they lose their money; this way, they will learn their lesson the hard way! My late mother, whose family came from Islas Canarias in Spain, often used to say: "El vivo vive del bobo y el bobo de su trabajo": the smart guy makes a living out of the dum guy and the dum buy makes a living out of his work...

But not in this chain: in all Ibis hotels where I have been worldwide, they have the same honest cancellation policy and in some locations they even accept the old "courtesy hold" until 7 pm without giving your credit card number, which is the one I go for every time I can.

This being said, I like this location because of the rate and the nice view I have from my usual room 209, where I see the mountains towards the East and have the room flooded with sunshine in the morning. Also, this room has a very big bathroom by European standards with a normal bathtub, which could suffer a deep, deep cleaning with lots and lots of Clorox in order to erase some black shadows on the bottom... This tub is at the antipodes of the coconut white ones of Best Western's "Palmgarten" in Frankfurt and "Hôtel de France" in Bourg-en-Bresse, for which I already posted two reviews here in T.A.

The downside is that it is 2.24 km from the city center and there is absolutely nothing around, except for a bakery and a small grocery about three or four blocks from it.

If you come by train, this location is NOT for you; try the downtown one which is more expensive but you will save the taxi! But if you have a car (own or rented), and if you come on Friday, Saturday and Suday, you may want to try this place at this low special rate for three days in a row during the weekend.
