Just returned from a lovely girls weekend away at Alpine Refuge. The Chalet is spotless and Lucy and Griff are both lovely hosts. They were extremely accommodating of all our peculiar dietary requests, all of the meals were delicious. It is only a few minutes walk to the bridge to get to the SuperMorzine lift and main town and if you wanted to be taken or collected from further afield they were more than happy to do so. If I am being super picky the rooms all bar one shared a toilet on each floor and the hot tub is in a basement room which we had not realised. However the good far outweighed a couple of minor issues. Thanks for a lovely stay

Just got back from a fantastic week in Morzine. From start to finish everything with 'The Great Escape' was spot on, couldn't have asked for more. The booking process with Sam was straight forward & friendly, Darren popped in on several occasions to make sure all was well and Lucy & Griff, our chalet hosts were second to none. Highly recommended, looking forward to next year already!

Absolutely perfect chalet, genuinely could not have asked for better. Fabulous bedrooms, cozy communal area and ... cant leave out the hot tub and sauna!
Our chalet hosts Lucy and Griff did an amazing job ensuring we all had a memorable holiday. Considering we were such a big group, they were very accommodating to our needs and made sure we were well looked after. Food was amazing, a different menu was presented to us each night, a hot breakfast option and a freshly prepared cake every day was a welcome treat when we came back from the slopes. They also assisted us with our ski lesson bookings, restaurant recommendation and not to mention the free shuttle to the slopes in mornings.
Great staff and a great company to book your ski holiday with, The Great Escape have been more than helpful both helping us organise the holiday, and while in Morzine. We had a fantastic time!
Keep up the good work guys!!

If you're looking for a catered skiing holiday, you'd be hard-pushed to beat a week in the Alpine Refuge. This is a cute, comfortable chalet with loads of extras – hot tub, sauna, free wi-fi etc – at reasonable prices. Hosts Lucy and Grif provide delicious meals (including fresh cake each teatime, an incentive to ski hard). The company that runs it, The Great Escape, is one of the best in the Alps: family-run, helpful, knowledgeable, very efficient. They have several other chalets in Morzine, well worth checking out if this one is too big/small for your group.

We had a group of 11 in Chalet Alpine Refuge at the start of January - had a fantastic holiday and very well looked after by Sam, Darren and our dedicated chalet hosts Lucy and Griff!

You will struggle to find a nicer chalet - short walk or shuttle bus to ski lifts but worth it for the hot tub on return!

Thank you Great Escape Morzine ('',)

It’s about time I wrote this review – I’ve been meaning to do it for ages. I am a fanatical skier and have been on many chalet holidays; and I want to talk about the best chalet operator I have come across. My family and I have been clients of The Great Escape in Morzine for many years – I have been a guest of theirs on nearly 20 holidays. The owners of the company are Sam and Darren Woodley, whom we first discovered when they used to have “The Bez” – a charming but somewhat rickety traditional ski chalet. They have gradually upgraded their offering over the last few years and now have a range of accommodation in Morzine. Most recently, we have stayed several times in the “Alpine Refuge”, a chalet on the road from Morzine to Montriond, one of the main access points to the vast Portes du Soleil ski area.

The Great Escape’s forte is catered chalets, offering rather more than the usual chalet experience. Sam and Darren have the knack of finding the best staff who always try just that little bit harder to make your stay something special. The chalet food is exceptional and from the moment the guests step in through the door they are made to feel as though they are home-from-home. The “Refuge” is a modern chalet – warm, comfortable, well-appointed, with plenty of power sockets (important for charging iPhones and laptops!), plentiful hot water and lots of room for just sitting round and chilling after a day’s skiing. There is plenty of parking, free wi-fi (although it took us some years to bully Darren into providing this!); the boot room has a heated boot rack and there are also a sauna and hot tub. The Refuge is opposite the bus stop on the main route to the Ardent bubble lift (10-15 minutes) however the Great Escape’s chalet hosts are always happy to drop guests off at a convenient ski lift in or around Morzine in the morning and collect them at a prearranged time in the afternoon.

Equipment hire can be arranged via British-owned All Mountain Rental, who deliver top-quality kit to the chalet and collect it at the end of the holiday; although they are so near to the Refuge that walking is not a problem.

Like all chalet companies, Great Escape has been hit by the ban on “ski-guiding” which outlaws chalet staff taking groups of guests out and showing them around the various pistes in the resort and beyond however the very knowledgeable Darren is always willing to offer advice and recommendations as to where to find the most plentiful snow, fewest queues and best restaurants. And of course if you were to bump into him on the slopes I’m sure he would be happy to join up for a little recreational skiing!

The Great Escape is certainly not a company for those holidaying on a tight budget however what they offer is a fantastic holiday, great value for money and superb customer service – as evidenced by the testimonials on Tripadvisor and their website.
