“Great chalet holiday”
Reviewed 1 March 2010

Chalet des Montagnes is a classic alpine chalet in a pretty location. The rooms are all decent sized and en suite, the location is just out of town, but only a 5-10 minute walk from all the Morzine bars in the evening, and if you are skiing on the Morzine / Les Gets side of town, it's virtually ski in ski out. The staff made the difference on this holiday - all were very friendly and did all they could to help out. The food was great, the service was excellent, the chalet was kept very clean, and we had lifts down to the chair lifts each morning, and a lift back from town each evening.

If you're looking for a great chalet based skiing holiday, I would highly recommend these guys.

Sometimes when a party of 19 turn up, for a 1 week fully catered ski chalet holiday very close to the end of the season, the staff are already too tired from the four months of hard work to really put the effort in...not at 'Simply Morzine' Chalet des Montagnes.
Myself, family and a large group of friends and their families have been lucky enough for the past several years to take holidays around Easter time to ski chalets in all the major ski areas of Europe, so the Portes du Soleil is the last 'big area' we hadn't done. I would say this is the very best 'Ski Chalet Holiday' we've had, for the overall experience. That is mainly down to the staff, the organistion and the obvious desire of the owner to give the very best service he can. From the very first contact with Mike at Simply Morzine to arriving back at Geneva airport for the return trip to the UK everything went extremely smoothly. We were picked up from the airport by minibus and it was obvious from the start that the staff were well motivated and thoroughly enjoyed the job. The transfer to the resort is only around 1 hour 30mins and the journey had only a very few miles of winding roads, which is good for 'bad travellers'. Once at the Chalet, which looks brand new, we felt right at home. The website gave us good information of what to expect in the Chalet, in the way of facilities, such as the large comfortable lounge, hot tub, internet, tea & coffee, DVD , video etc etc., so we were aware that they would be very good and we were not disappointed. The rooms were clean and comfortable with space for hanging and storing clothes. The quality and variety of food was excellent and as we try and ski all day, breakfast and dinner are very important to us. I like their strapline of 'informal luxury', it sums it up neatly. The ski and boot hire also the free storage is perfect and the staff at Felix Ski Hire were also very friendly and helpful, I was really impressed by the standard of hire equipment. The minibus that picked us up from the airport is part of a fleet of 3, I believe, which are on hand on a daily basis to get you to either the Ski Hire shop or back, or to the Telecabine. We preferred to walk to and back from the hire shop (6 minutes), where we kept our boots and skis overnight, as the weather was fantastic. Morzine is a lively town so there's plenty to do if you wish. The ski-ing is plentiful and varied and with a knowledgeable ski guide ( Cat) you can cover as much or as little as you want ... it was the staff of Vince, Cat, Charlie, Unity and Kylie that made everything just right and I could go on, but sufficient to say that we've already booked for 2010 , same place same time !

We were a large group that took over most of the chalet, which was kept very well. Clean, tidy, cosy and so comfortable with log fire and huge sofas! Location is short 5 min walk from town and free transfers available to get over to ski hire/storage and various lifts. Staff were very friendly and attentive and made our trip totally hassle-free with their excellent organisation. Food was also excellent - a lot of debate about the 'meal of the week'! Would definately recommend Chalet de Montagnes to any groups looking for a great value chilled out holiday!

I would definitely recommend skiing with Simply Morzine. They know exactly what you want from a chalet based skiing holiday. The staff are superb and always go the extra mile to help you out. Food is fantastic and plentiful. The chalet is kept spotlessly clean. There's a great hot tub and you can use the pool in the hotel next door if you ask nicely too. If I go back to Morzine again, I wouldn't stay anywhre else.

3 of us have just returned from a 7 night stay in the self-catering apartment in Chalet Des Montagne. On arrival at Geneva airport, we were met by Tony who transported our party of 3, along with a family of 5, to the resort. Whilst driving through the town Tony brought us to a ski-shop to rent our ski boots and skis (at a discount to Simply Morzine customers), which was so handy. It meant we didn't have the hassle of sorting it all out the next day.

We were welcomed to the apartment by Vincent (the resort manager) who gave us a brief introduction and made us a cup of tea. He also made sure we had our complimentary bottles of white wine, coffee, tea, milk and orange juice.

Later our rep Chris arrived to give us a more detailed introduction to the chalet, resort and the town. He sorted out our ski passes and recommended some restaurants (which we sampled, and were never disappointed). He also took our order of croissants and baguettes that were delivered to our door each morning.

The following day we were given a lift to the supermarket and collected again by someone called "Gibbo" we think. It was so handy not to have to carry the shopping back up the hill! Great service!

The apartment itself is clean and tidy, with 2 "cosy" bedrooms and a large living area/kitchen. We had everything we needed for a comfortable stay.

Morzine itself is a beautiful village, and is just a short walk from the chalet. The gondola is not too far at all, and the slopes are fantastic .. we went somewhere different every day.

If you're booking ski lessons, I would recommend Easy-to-Ride. They are a little more expensive than ESF, but the classes never go above 8 people which is great. If you can request an instructor I would recommend Lionel .. he is a lovely guy and a great instructor.

Restaurants I would recommend are La Flamme, L'Auberge and La Grange. There is also a restaurant on the blue D run call Les Mouilles .. the lunches here are tasty and reasonable (particularly compared to the restaurant at the top of the Gondola).

We had a fantastic time, so much so we've already booked for the same time next year!

  • Liked — The staff and service
  • Disliked — The limit in times for use of the hot-tub, a couple of time it had gone cold by the time we got to use it :(

Simply Morzine offer exceptional service for a stress free holiday, even with extended family in tow. Ideal if you want to leave the car at home. Comfortable rooms with some amazing views. Lovely food and plenty of it. Very sociable and knowledgeable staff. Nice big hot tub after a hard day on the piste. Cater for all skiing abilities. Lots of activities available in summer (or a patio for those less active!).

  • Liked — The comfort, the food, the welcome, the service from the simply morzine team.
  • Disliked — Some rooms on the small side.

My Family were in total agreement that this was our best holiday ever. "The Family" Includes four very active kids which range in age 8 to 12. I wanted a holiday that kept us all active but also had a bit of comfort. From start to finnish we were so well looked after. We were collected at the airport by a member of staff (no bother with taxis etc) and taken straight to the chalet it was lovely from the outside and immaculate on the inside. We were given a run down of all the activities we could take part in, I can not list them all here, but we took part in mountain biking, white water rafting, via ferrata, canyoning, and a fair amount of walking in the stunning French Alps, "Oh look at the view" was uttered constantly.
The Food, breakfast was buffet style but with something different cooked each day. Evening meal was a very high standard 3 or sometimes four course meal. with a seperate childs meal if you wish which was also a good meal (not nugget and chips)
The staff were superb incredibly helpful and friendly and were brilliant with the children I cannot give them high enough praise.
Of course we are going back next year.
