“Very helpful family run hotel”
Reviewed 22 February 2010

We stayed as` a large group (36) and found the hotel excellent value for money. The staff were very helpful & friendly. The location is only just the other side of the bridge so a short walk into the heart of the town.

Family run hotel with good facilities and very good service.

The hotel is very well heated with underfloor heating. -13C outside but you wouldn't know inside.

I stayed in Hotel Alpina with 5 friends as they could accommodate a 4 day booking from Wednesday to Sunday. Choosing half board was a good decision as both the breakfast and the dinner were very good with more than enough for hungry skiers/boarders. Hotel was clean and facilities like the jacuzzi and sauna are pretty good for a 2* place.

Location is excellent, it may seem like you are far from the town but with the bridge it is very close and I've stayed in Morzine before on the same side of the valley and been much further away. No more than a few minutes walk to Super Morzine.

Overall the hotel was very good value money and I would certainly consider staying there again if I go back to Morzine.

We stayed over New Year, picking this hotel because it was possible to book a Monday to Monday break and thus avoid the expensive weekend flights and busy transfers.

The hotel couldn't have been more welcoming, friendly and helpful. We had some bad wet weather for a couple of days and the host family took all our wet things (and between four or us there was a lot) and dried it all out in a drying room, returning by breakfast the next day.

The location is great for the Super Morzine Lift (yes you do have to walk across the suspension bridge but its not that bad!), and also great for the bus to Ardent with the stops both ways just a very short walk along the road.

We went half board. Breakfast was self service with the usual continental options with bread, jams, croissant, cheese, hams, boiled eggs, cereals, fruit and cake. The evening meal was excellent, and certainly cheaper and easier than going out each night.

If we went back to Morzine we would certainly consider staying at the Alpina again.

Very cute chalet, nice moutain style decoration, staff really friendly, rooms clean.
Closed of the city centre and the slopes of Avoriaz through Super Morzine.
Jaccuzzi and sauna.
Excellent breakfast with delicious home made cake!
I recommend! Great value for money.

To be honest we choose the Alpina as it was the only hotel in the region we could find that would take our group (22 man senior rugby tour) for four nights.Read the mixed feelings of reports on tripadvisor so was not expecting much. We were howerver surprised what a great welcome we recieved along with the friendly service through out our stay. The rooms were adequate for a ski holiday claen and bright if maybe a little cold, maid service 5 stars for reasons i will not mention in this review.brekie was the usual french spread,Dinner was very good served with style and a smile.Dont go out at night without the front door code number after 10pm. the only pronlem with this hotel i found was the distance to the morzine telecabine, a good 10 min trek with your ski gear across a foot bridge which was a little shakey and not for the faint hearted types, next to the intersport ski hire shop we used.although there is a mini train that runs from near the avoriaz telecabine. ski passes were 35 euro per day but 35 for a weekend pass. Our social drinking was taken mainly in the famous budda bar were we met apres ski for happy hour. 6 euro a pint chaps. but only 3 euro each 5-6 pm.Over all a cracking 4 day ski break- the Alpina was superb in my opinion.

We have just come back from a 4 night stay at this hotel (the only hotel that would accommodate us in the whole of Morzine for less than a week over half term). What a find it is. The staff were helpful and friendly. We were about 150m to the Avoriaz lift and a very short walk to the town centre and Le Pleney lifts. The room (although not luxurious) was very clean and warm. We had dinner one evening (we should have eaten here every night)! the food was very good and exceptional value compared to the restauarants in town. Breakfast was adequate - boiled eggs. cereal, fruit, meat ,bread croissants and pastries. OK we had to ring a bell to get service at the bar, but what friendly service it was! Value for money this hotel is absolutely superb.

A large group of us, comprising eight adults and 10 children stayed for a week between Dec 26-Jan 2 and we really enjoyed ourselves.

The location is perfect, in that you can walk a short distance to the ski lifts and town centre.

The hotel is run by a family who are very caring and friendly. The 'mum' of the family cannot speak English but her daughter Marie-Sophie can and they are all so friendly and charming.

If you try to speak to the 'mum' in a Basil Fawlty-style, as one English guest did when we were there, then they will look at you blankly, but if you understand and appreciate her lack of English, you will soon realise she has a good sense of humour.

The food was excellent - we had breakfast and evening meal - and the rooms were fine.

Admittedly, one or two of the rooms had problems with radiators or occasional lack of hot water during our stay, but this was soon rectified.

The bar is always open but you have to ask for a drink - there is no permanent barman - but they have a very laid-back atmosphere which we liked.

There is no reception as such and no safety deposit boxes, but we liked that about this hotel - it made it feel more homely.

You can lock your room and hide your room key, as long as you leave it for cleaners before going out, and they close the main door with a security coded lock at midnight.

This means if you come back from town after midnight you have to remember the code to let yourself in - which we found fine.

The family appeared to enjoy having children around and made sure we were happy.

It was not too pricey but you have to appreciate that as a two-star hotel you won't get The Ritz.

But you will get a well-run, small and friendly hotel in a perfect spot.

Matthew Bell, London, England.

  • Liked — The family who own and run it
  • Disliked — Occasional problem with heating (only occasional)
  • Tips/Secrets — Talk to the family who run it - don't speak to them like an idiot just because of their lack of english
