“Nice hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 December 2013 via mobile

The rooms here are newly renovated and have a pleasant aroma of pine.

Cyril, the owner, was very friendly and helpful. He gave us a detailed demonstration on how to use his new egg cooking machine which he was particularly proud of.

Would definitely stay here again.

waaaaaap!

We have stopped here several times now and finally I can't help but write my review, as the food and service on offer would put most 5 star hotels to shame. The rooms are clean and tidy with maid service. The location is spot on with fantastic views of Morzine and the surrounding mountains from your room. This will be the first place I check for availability when I return to Morzine.

Just had few days break in the Morzine area if France. Seen this hotel in the reviews and managed to get a few days a a very reasonble price.
We were very well looked after by Cyril, his family and staff. The food was very good and the help and assistance that was given was certainly up there with the best. Any special requests were taken care of and nothing seemed to be too much trouble. Our room was a bit on the small side but perfectly adequete for our needs and as clean and as well looked after as the rest of the hotel.
Would recommend this hotel and certainly worth more than 2 stars for the service and food alone.

Room Tip: Anywhere but the attic rooms.

This was my first visit to Le Grand Tetras, and was recommended by my friends who had stayed there on numerous occasions over the last few years. I was told that the standard of food was that of a very good French restaurant, which I must admit I had my doubts, but I am happy to say after feasting for the last few days this is definitely the case. Expertly cooked and excellently presented so compiments to the chef, the evening meals are like something from masterchef & there is plenty to fulfill any appetite from the self service breakfast buffet. The room we stayed in was a family room containing a double & 2 single beds, which had been newly refurbished and was both comfortable & spacious. Cyril and Mariona are great hosts and both speak excellent English, and really do make you feel welcome, they are always very helpful with local information and quick to sort out any issues (not that we had any). For those who cant live without their gadgets the is free wifi. Also for all guests you benefit from 20% off the hire at Berger (also recommended, with ski, board & boot overnight storage). 3 day ski & boot hire only cost me 72 Euros. Location is a 15 min walk to the Pleney lift (& Berger ski hire) or the bus stop to Avoriaz is right outside. In summary - a fantastic French hotel that is well worth the visit. Can't believe it's a 2 star. I will be definitely be going there again as soon as possible.

Poor food? Seriously? This is the third time we've been to Le Grand Tetras in 3 years and the food is of the standard of a very good French restaurant. Locally sourced, perfectly cooked and excellently presented. The chef is a genius. If you're after pizza and chips and a cooked English breakfast this is not the place to be. Maybe the Travelodge in Chester is better suited? As for the room quality, I cannot vouch for all, but we've stayed in 3 different rooms and they've all been very clean and tidy with excellent showers - get it right and you get a room with a balcony over looking the village and mountains. The room we stayed in last was a family room, newly refurbished and was superb.

we were looking forward to staying in this highly rated hotel after reading the reviews. we booked the last room in the hotel, and when we entered the room we could tell why it had been the last to go. it was tiny, with the eaves cutting accross making it feel even smaller.
it didnt seem particularly clean, the only window was a roof light which had a faulty blind, so we couldnt even keep it dark. the bathroom had no shower, only a hand held one, and no shower curtain. not that you could stand anyway as the eaves prevented that.
all in all we were glad it was for us two lads, as we are sure our wifes would have cried at the prospect of a few nights here.
at least we could look forward to some nice food...
well not quite. some of the food, ( and im not a fussy eater at all) was very poor. i must say some of the meals were very nice, but microwaved box of fish, with mircowave rice is not the best, and raw pork served on a bed of cabbage, not a great carb buster for a day on the slopes.
the breakfast was no better. the choice of two cereals served in a tiny bowl, very uninspireing, and then the continental french stick and jam, or greasy ham.
all in all we enjoyed our trip despite the hotel and not because of it. we are sure we got the worst room ( room 7) and hope if you stay here you manage to get a room on the other side of the hotel, where you will hopefully get a nice balcony and a shower you can stand up in!

Room Tip: dont stay in room 7

Stayed at Hotel Le Grand Tetras for a week long ski trip. This is a very good hotel for a 2 star. There is nothing luxurious about the hotel but it is absolutely adequate for a skiing/ activity holiday where you just require somewhere to get washed and rest your head. Our room was very small and basic. The room was warm and had a balcony with lovely mountain views. There is ample storage space to put away clothes etc. There was always plenty of warm water. There is a TV but it only has French speaking channels. Be aware that the walls are very thin so if you are a light sleeper bring ear plugs!! Saying that, Morzine was very quiet in the evenings and so people stumbling in late at night was not a regular occurance!

The food at this hotel is what really warrants the good review. A 3 course dinner was served every night - menu was well thought out, not repetitive and food was amazing!

There is a small bar at the hotel but this seemed to close up by 10pm every night - more for a coffee after dinner.

Ski lifts (Pleney and Super-Morzine) are about 15 minute walk away. We were unable to get a locker at the lifts and so used the ski bus every morning as we had to carry our stuff - the ski bus comes every 30 minutes just behind the hotel and is very handy. There is a room to store skis in at the hotel.

Bars and restaurants in Morzine are a 5 - 10 minute walk away. The walk back up to the hotel is very steep - may not be suitable for people with mobility problems. There appeared to be very little in terms of 'apres-ski' in Morzine - although we usually ski in Austria and so have maybe been spoilt with the apres-ski!

The couple who run the hotel were very friendly and accommodating - they were always available should you have any requests. The rest of the staff were also very friendly. I would stay here again if I returned to Morzine.

Room Tip: Higher up rooms probably have the best views
