Incredibly friendly staff who bend over backwards to make sure you have a great stay! Nothing is too much trouble. And it's a lovely cosy hotel with a great atmosphere.

Michelle and Frank and the most hospitable hoteliers - they are so friendly and cannot do enought for you. Gorgeous decor, restaurant and bar area. And the lovely warm pool is a real bonus. Rooms lovely and quiet with great views. Our group of 12 'girls' have stayed here for the last four years and thoroughly recommend the hotel.

We have been to Morzine with Simply Morzine for the last two years for our annual skiing trip and both times we have stayed at La Chaumiere. The Simply Morzine staff could not be more helpful from the guys based in England right through to the resort staff in Morzine they have looked after my friends and I extremely well.
The hotel is well ran by Frank and Michelle and they are really nice people who can't do enough for you. We were half board both times and although the set menu in the evening does not offer that much choice the food is very good and varies each night and there were no complaints from our group! The hotel is well positioned and you can ski back to it if there is enough snow at village height! then pop of the ski's and jump in the lovely warm pool to relax after a hard day on the slopes!!

All in all from a value for money point of view I think you would struggle to find a better deal anywhere in the French Alps in peak season the hotel does not offfer the standard of the Ritz Carlton but it doesn't claim too and you are not paying Ritz Carlton prices!! If you want a great value ski trip to the French Alps with great skiing on your door step and a good night out, go to Morzine, book with Simply Morzine and stay at La Chaumiere you will not be dissapointed.

Spent a week over New Years, 2011. My review is in two parts, as we booked with "Simply Morzine" & stayed at "Hotel La Chaumiere". Note that this is my personal experience, as with all reviews on TA:

Hotel La Chaumiere = thumbs up in general: This is an average ski hotel, it needs some TLC especially to the shower rooms & boiler / heating system. It's owned and managed by a very kind, helpful and friendly family & their staff (free lift to the Prodains cable car which was some distance away; special meal for one of our party who got sick, etc, etc). The lack of hot water at peak times reported in various TA reviews going back to 2006 has not been remedied. Although we were told to wait anything from 20 to 60 minutes for the boiler to re-heat, on two occasions after 2 hours there was still no hot water. Food was generally good. Owing to it's typical, rustic, chalet style the hotel is not quiet. We were unlucky enough to visit at the same time as several families - the noise made by the children (who were allowed by their parents to run wild!) was quite unbearable. The beds were very comfortable - it would have been nice to enjoy them for longer instead of being woken up by young hooligans! This hotel is fine for the price if you're not bothered by noise or don't mind changing your schedule to fit in with the temperamental hot water supply. I would recommend it based on the good points (helpful staff, comfortable beds, nice small swimming pool, good breakfast).

Simply Morzine = thumbs down:
Pre-holiday info & advice was, on one hand, very proactive, understanding, friendly (especially from Gareth). However the owner of the company came across as rather patronising and, following post-holiday complaints made to Simply Morzine, unwilling to accept any criticism. Appreciate this is a small, family run company but when dealing with a reasonable complaint (eg. lack of hot water at the hotel; treatment / confusion / mis-information from some of the reps) it doesn't seem to be a good idea to take it so personally that all objectivity is lost. As a result I would not book with Simply Morzine again or recommend them, based on my experience of the company management. I would advise anyone considering them to check all documents carefully and to record all conversations and not be misled by the seemingly casual attitude as, when it comes down to the nitty gritty, they will throw the book at you!

SimplyMorzine, Owner at Hotel La Chaumiere, responded to this reviewResponded 7 February 2011

This review is written by the party leader of group of 6 guests who were very unhappy with their holiday with Simply Morzine at Hotel la Chaumière over New Year. 3 other reviews on 8th January, 11th January and 6th February are by members of the same booking. We have already addressed subjects in past reviews that have been repeated here, so will only answer the new issues raised.

La Chaumière is a child-friendly hotel. We welcome couples, families and small groups alike. Over periods such as when the reviewer stayed with us (New Year holidays), it is likely that families will be staying at the hotel. Children are most welcome in the public areas (bar, lounge and restaurant) and the mix of guests in the school holidays gives our hotel a warm and family-friendly atmosphere. We take objection to the reference of children looking forward to a day’s skiing as ‘young hooligans’.

We did not ‘throw the book’ but replied professionally and thoroughly to the group leader’s long letter of complaint. We apologised once again for the problem with hot water, perceived cold bedrooms and acknowledged the occasions where there was any confusion about the availability of our daily resort shuttle service. Constructive feedback is important as this helps us improve, but we were entitled in our reply to explain why we felt many of the listed complaints to be unreasonable.

Unfortunately the party leader thought that wine/coffee etc were free of charge and that ski hosting (guiding) would be available daily, whereas our website and documentation describe that wine & hot drinks are payable locally and complimentary ski hosting is on offer 2-3 times per week. We are sorry the reviewer felt she was misled about what the holiday price includes.
