Hotel and room had beautiful views of the ocean and has a great central location in Clarencetown, particularly if you are interested in exploring both the north and south end of the island. The owners are very personable, helpful and hospitable and were ready to help with any questions and requests.

Our room was nice and clean with ocean views off the balcony just as expected. That said, we wish there had been more transparency about the sandbug issue the out islands have been experiencing coming out of the last hurricane. Although the hotel did provide a particular bug repellant that they recommended for use against sandbugs, we did not feel there was anything else that was being done (or could be done?) to help control the issue. If you are prone to bug bites, please take caution as I woke up every morning with literally dozens of new bites and ended up having to sleep covered head to toe while also using three types of bug repellent and still woke up with several bites....not to mention constantly applying cortisone for the entire duration of our trip. While we love the ambiance of local resorts and want to support them, I don't believe this would ever be acceptable at a larger resort.

Overall, being from the city, Long Island is definitely somewhere you go when you want to get away from it all. The beaches are lovely and you definitely won't be driving past a Starbucks! :)

Jeannie K, Thank you for taking the time to write a review and commending our quality of service and beauty of the facility but acknowledge your experience could have been enhanced were it not for the sand flies 'no-see-ums' which only come out during dawn and dusk during very calm weather. During times of increased bug activity when spraying is not effective, for the comfort of guests we recommend not venturing outside during the few hours of dusk and dawn and the use of air conditioning. If this is not possible then insect repellent (provided) with long clothing is advised along with limited exposure.

Wonderful hosts at this small resort hotel near Clarence Town Long Island.
Shavonne and Hans couldnt have been more friendly and helpful.
Long Island has many places to explore but you do need a car, even to get into Clarence Town.

Kiki, thank you for taking the time to share your experience of our hospitable service and regret you did not have the opportunity to cycle as you desired. Long Island is long and narrow so cars are more conducive to experiencing the island's points of interest.

I had the opportunity to travel to Long Island and I was fortunate to stay at Gems at Paradise. What a WONDERFUL place to stay! As we pulled up to the resort the General Manager Shavonne was there to greet us and welcome us. This lady knows HOSPITALITY ! She provided us with detail information about the resort, activities on the island, and each day she ensured that our needs were met. Our room was beautiful, comfortable and it had the best view overlooking the gorgeous beach! What I love about Gems at Paradise is that it is peaceful, intimate, clean, and they truly make you feel like a gem while you are in paradise. Everything you need for a wonderful get away is there! This was one trip I solely enjoyed and I am eager to get back there soon.

My wife and I had a blast, the hospitality, relaxation, breathe taking view, and food all exceeded expectations.

Deans blue hole, Columbus monument and beaches all made it a get away to remember.

We are excited about bring the family back for vacation. We're sure the kids would love it too.

Thanks Shavonne (and team) for making our trip memorable.

I recently returned home after a brief stay at Gems and I already want to go back. Our room had the most gorgeous view imaginable overlooking a bay. Just across the water was the Clarence Town Marina. What I loved about Gems is that it's private and everything you could want is right at the resort yet it's close enough to Clarence Town so it's really easy to explore the town. The resort is on a hill and it's just a 1 minute walk down to their private beach. There beach front really is like something out of the movies.

Shavonne, our host, really knows how to treat guests and gave us just the right balance of attentive service and privacy.

The rooms were clean, spacious and the beds were very comfortable.

This was one of the best breaks I've had in a while. Definitely on the list of places I need to visit again.
