Buried in a hilltop in Mitcheldean, this cosy cottage had plenty of space for me, the wife and our two large German Shepherds.
We arrived late on a Friday evening and following the instructions had no problem getting in and settled for the night. The cottage had everything we needed and more, with fresh fruit, milk, orange juice and more importantly a bottle of wine.
Our puppies got us up early the next morning as they were as excited as us to explore the surrounding area, so we browsed through the box of flyers and advice slips and chose the Sculpture Trail in the heart of the Forest of Dean (15 mins drive). We all had a great time following the signs and discovering some interesting and some dubious sculptures before heading back to the car.
Plenty of rest and out again to visit the nearby village, Bream and then again later to Ross-on-Wye, which was a perfect example of an old town with plenty of character that we would happily visit again.
We rested well again for our second and final night, playing games and watching a DVD (both available in the cottage) before heading home to Southampton the next morning.
In summary, a fantastic weekend in a dog friendly cottage, within the picturesque setting of the Forest of Dean.
Thank you Lorraine, we will definitely visit again.
Lovely cottage superbly renovated and really warm and cosy. Very comfortable and well equiped and host provided an excellent 'welcome' pack for both us and our dogs. Wonderful surroundings with views across open fields and trees along the nearby hillside. Many walks locally along pretty paths through the forests. Very conveniently situated for amenities throughout the Forest of Dean area. We really enjoyed our stay in the cottage and area.
The Old Dairy Cottage was a wonderful find. Everything was provided for a comfortable stay including many suggestions for local and further afield walks. It is situated close to many of the local tourist trails but was set in a very quiet position. The welcome pack of essentials was much appreciated as we aware able to make a cup of tea as soon as we arrived. We certainly will recommend the cottage to friends and family.
The location of the cottage is ideal, right on the edge of the forest of dean.
Lovely walks and pet friendly pubs nearby.
the cottage itself was just perfect ! spotless with everything needed for a very comfortable stay. I would definitely recommend this cottage. the information pack and welcome pack was very helpful even the dog was left a couple of treats !!
very safe and secure with a small enclosed patio area with seating outside if the weather is kind. we loved our stay and will visit again !
location was very good ,plenty of walks for our german shepherd.cottage was the best we have stayed in with a dog .i could say to good .so clean and plenty of towels .fresh fruit, tea ,coffee, sugar and flowers to welcome you.and very peaceful to relax as we came from busy busy kent.
We had a marvellous time. The Old Dairy 1 is a perfectly formed, vey comfortable, super clean, well equipped and modernly furnished cottage with a very welcoming owner Lorraine who made us so welcome from the moment we arrived. The welcome pack was most thoughtful although (including a treat and blanket for the dog!) you are surrounded at short driving distance by a number of grocery and food outlets. The house itself is on the doorstep of a plethora of gorgeous walks peacefully sun dappled when bright or sheltered perfectly in rain. Within metres of the house you will find plenty of public walkways and on the birdsong evening on the sun trap patio you can watch hunting birds of prey soaring above the trees. We highly recommend this property and appreciate the effort made by owner Lorraine to make it so comfortable for a relaxing stay in such a gorgeous part of the world.

What a lovely way to spend our 29th wedding anniversary!
Lovely, cosy cottage with a welcome of fruit and the essentials and a nice welcome card and flowers from Lorraine who also took the time to come to say hello in person.
Very quiet and peaceful and ideal for a few days away from it all.
Beautiful countryside and friendly neighbours (including several sheep!!)
Hope to visit again in the not-too distant future.
