We stayed for 3 nights at Poppy Cottage last week at the beginning of our holiday in Yorkshire and The Lakes. What a brilliant start! A lovely old farmhouse - a very comfortable room, snug sitting room for our use, even a sunny decking area in the lovely garden. Everywhere was spotlessly clean and the breakfasts Steve and Sally serve were wonderful! They were so welcoming and helpful with recommendations etc. We thought it was excellently located, walking distance across the fields from Skipton, easy access to all the Yorkshire Dales attractions and a reasonable pub up the road. One night we just bought take-away homemade pizza from the pub and were able to eat it back at the guesthouse out in the garden - perfect!

We would definitely recommend this guest house to friends and would love to return ourselves.

To write a simple review of Poppy Cottage I would just need to say read all the other reviews, they don't lie, it definitely deserves it's excellent reviews.
The setting is perfect overlooking the Yorkshire dales. The guest house is spotless, the breakfasts are excellent and, depending on what you choose, can be quite filling. The real beauty however is the actual accommodation itself and the owners Steve and Sally.
The guest house is actually made up of Poppy Cottage ( for guests ) and Ivy Cottage ( for the family) so you are really living in your own cottage with a separate dining room, guest lounge, decking area and garden all for guests.
Steve and Sally are very friendly and make you feel at home, but are completely unobtrusive and allow you to live in peace. However should you need anything they are always there and will appear as if by magic just like the shopkeeper in Mr Benn ( for those of you old enough to remember the tv programme ).
Nothing is too much trouble and I can see why most of the people on Trip Advisor say they will return. I can only agree with them and say that next time we are in the area, and we still have lots to see, we will stay at Poppy Cottage.

Room Tip: We had Poppy room which faced the front of the house overlooking the road, but it is very quiet and...

Our stay at Poppy Cottage was absolutley delightfull. Wonderfull hosts, Steve and Sally made us very welcome indeed. Freedom to come and go as we pleased. Very comfortable lounge to relax in on an evening; with doors out to a beautifull guest garden overlooking the pet chickens and pigs, with views beyond to the wonderfull yorkshire countryside. The Primrose room in which we stayed was very comfortable, very clean with a lovely en-suite. We can highly recommend Poppy Cottage for long or short breaks you will not be dissapointed, we will definately stay again.

On arrival we found ourselves in a comfortable, converted farmhouse, with every modern convenience. A very warm reception from Steve (chief cook and bottle washer),followed by an equally warm reception from Sally. Following a tour of the ground floor, gardens and "animal sanctuary",we were shown to the Sunflower bedroom, which overlooked the garden and hillside beyond, where.wild life abounded. Nothing was too much trouble, with lots of treats, such as an unlimited supply of hot drink sachets, biscuits plus " George" (the butler) presented an never ending supply of sweets at every arrival and departure. Breakfasts were superb, with an excellent choice and always very well cooked and presented, always served by smiling, friendly people. Poppy Cottage is set in a wonderful part of The Dales, as seen during the televised Tour de France. One not to be missed, and we will certainly be back.

Room Tip: Can only comment on Sunflower room, which was well appointed, beautifully clean and quiet. Chatting...

This was our first visit to Poppy Cottage but it certainly will not be our last.
Sally and Steve are wonderful hosts making us feel very welcome on arrival and throughout our three night stay.
We had the Poppy room which is an absolute delight; Breakfast was excellent with exceptional choice and very well cooked.
The whole place was just lovely, spotless and all you could ask for. We would not hesitate to recommend this Guest house.
Stayed July 2014.

Our stay at Poppy Cottage was faultless. The sunflower room had a lovely outlook over the back garden to the hill behind. It was nicely furnished with an old fire range that had been hidden behind a wall until the extensive sympathetic restoration. The bed was a decent size, very comfy and all was blissfully quiet. Breakfast was nicely served by Steve & Sally. Poppy Cottage was an excellent base and we commuted into Skipton on the hourly Pennine bus, but sadly the company has just closed down so that won't be so easy in future. The Swan Inn a few hundred yards away has a good menu and provides large portions with interesting ales. Very nice indeed.
