“Wonderful welcome”
Reviewed 5 August 2014

Had 2 meals here on our holiday at St Brides Castle for 7 days. Wonderful welcome from the landlord and wonderful food. Good selection of seafood and all home cooked to order. We loved it so much we returned on our last meal for another enjoyable meal.

“move on from the earlier poor reviews”
Reviewed 26 July 2014

Having read some mixed reviews on this site, I wasn't intending on going here, however it is the only place to eat within miles so rather reluctantly we gave it a go. Either they've taken on board some of the previous criticisms, or the previous negative posts were biased and unfounded... ...we had a great time!
The landlord was very welcoming, chatty and full of banter. The food is good pub fare: there was a good choice, the portions were just what we needed after a day's walking, and it's all reasonably priced. We sat outside in the large and pleasant beer garden as it was such a sunny day, and the interior looked well kept and inviting for less pleasant weather. Forget some of the earlier reviews and go there if you're in the area

“OK”
Reviewed 30 June 2014

Went here for an evening meal a couple of weeks ago. The main part of the meal was OK but nothing special. However, the veg was horrible and tasted like it had been cooked for hours or left warmed up since lunch time. The carrots and broccoli were total mush and inedible. What I also thought strange was there was a waitress looking after the dining room and while eating our meal my husband asked her for a glass beer. She replied that he needed to get it himself from the bar. So off he went and queued for 5 minutes by which time his meal was cold. What I did notice was an American gentleman asked for a wine with his meal and that was bought over for him!
Pricey for the standard of food. Won't be going back.

“Pleasant garden, good pub fare at reasonable prices”
Reviewed 28 June 2014

The Lobster Pot belied it's rather poor reviews here and we were pleasantly surprised when we stopped here for lunch with a walking party. There was a very reasonable selection of honest pub food which looked like it could be freshly produced rather than an exotic range of over hyped dishes which you just knew would come to you from the freezer via the microwave. I ordered steak & ale pie with chips which not unusually these days turned out to be a beef casserole topped with puff pastry. That aside it was quite good if not exactly authentic and the veg were nicely cooked and presented too. My wife had the crab baguette & salad special which was also very good. It didn't cost an arm and a leg either . The walk leader being a local also gave a good recommendation for the fish and chips which he said was a good sized fillet. We weren't expecting a fine dinning gourmet meal so we were very happy with the Lobster Pot.
The young ladies who took our orders and served the meal were very efficient and pleasant also so no issues there. It was a lovely sunny day and we sat in the very pleasant garden under a parasol.
So my recommendation is if you don't have unrealistic haute cuisine expectations of a country pub and have an open mind give the Lobster Pot a try it might well surprize you.

“A good place to stay......”
Reviewed 23 June 2014 via mobile

We stayed here for a night and we were pleasantly surprised. We booked it without looking at the reviews and after looking my husband was worried......
The room was clean, the landlord was friendly and welcoming, the food was good, especially the English breakfast the day we left.
We will return next year, thank you.
