Place practically empty, waited a long while to be served. Five in the party, four had chicken I had sirloin steak which I had ordered well done. It was well presented and looked really nice. Unfortunately the steak was as tough as old boots. I made a complaint to the lad who had served and he informed that in the chefs opinion the longer the steak takes to cook the tougher it will get . I said that was a load of rubbish and however long it took to cook I should be able to eat it. I have eaten here in the past and had no problems , but the place has changed hands , in my opinion for the worse so will not be eating here anytime soon.

Hi I find you review a little unfair.. The place has not changed hands in the last 2 and a half years. Now regarding your food there is no mention regarding the other 4 meals so i can only presume they were fine. As for your steak i can only apologise on behalf of the railway inn for it not being up to our normal high standard.. Ive had a chat with the waiting on staff and agree things could have been delt with better,,, He did not mention to the chef on the evening that you had a issue with your steak... I do hope you will come back to the railway inn and give us a chance... Kind Regards

One of the few options locally, so it's a relief that it's good (and still good now there are new managers!).
Real ale, nice food (and separate restaurant), and a great snug with an open fire! Proper 'local' feel!.

A convenient location, as we were staying in a nearby bed and breakfast. A very friendly welcome from the barman and found a table near the fireplace, which was roaring! Food came out in suitable time and was delicious and well presented. Very generous portions to boot. Great value for money and a friendly farewell to finish. Keep up the good work!

Another lovely meal. Always enjoy visiting this pub when over here for a good hearty meal for a reasonable price. Lamb shank was superb and puddings are excellent.

Really friendly staff, warm welcome.

Only downside was distinct lack of ales on tap (only had John smiths). But I’m sure they’ll get that sorted soon!

So pleased the The Railway is still going. They didn't have real ale this time but the bottle beer from the Moose Brewery was excellent and food was first class as usual - hot and tasty. Lovely log fire and friendly people. Always try to call in when we're passing.
