Visited again this week to visit family.
The contemporary bedrooms are still very clean ( I own a cleaning company employing 15 people so impressed, which is not often ) with everything you need.

We did have a small problem, not room related, however the new manager handled the problem in a professional and completely satisfactory manner.

I would recommend this hotel and will be visiting again soon.

I also want to give a special THANK YOU too Steve the bar keep. The hospitality industry is a career he was born to follow. What a fabulous chap. Easy going and friendly, our stays have been made especially enjoyable thanks to him.

Room Tip: Some of the double rooms have slightly larger showers. Ask about them when you book.

Things have changed slightly at the Kingscliff in the 4 months since we stayed, a new manager has recently been appointed an it looks like she has her hands full. Rooms still just as fantastic and this being a Bank Holiday was amazed to find on check in that there were no beers on the two hand pull pumps. Opting for lager instead (not our thing) we were then told that the gas had gone and nobody knew how to change it. So now on a Sunday night on a Bank Holiday weekend you have a hotel with no beer, unless you want to buy a bottle. Duty manager gave some stupid excuse as to why there was no draught ale and that she would try to change the gas but didn't know how to do so, would we like to wait? We left and took our business elsewhere for the evening. In the morning the lovely manager was most apologetic, they did actually have more draught but it looks like nobody could be bothered to put it on, plus the staff had been trained in respect of the gas. Must say don't like the change to self service breakfast in what looks like a canteen, it is noisy and it doesn't go with the rest of the experience plus if you are going to do self-service then you must keep it replenished. To have to ask for plates, orange juice etc lets you down and please do address the scrambled egg, it was discoloured (green) and was removed when husband pointed it out to staff. Whole episode would not prevent us from staying again though but it needs a bit of TLC.

Seems to be a short stay hotel. Quiet location on the seafront. Approximately 30 minutes walk to Clacton pier and centre. Light airy rooms. Food very good. Recently refurbishment with a new manager, it seems. The waiting staff we encountered were a little inexperienced but pleasant. Good sized (free) car park.

Room Tip: Room 3 has what used to be a doorway with an overlight and two other windows facing west and north...

We stayed at this hotel from 02/05/14 until 04/05/14. From the moment we arrived until we checked out the entire staff were excellent. Our room with a sea view was lovely and it is quite obvious a lot of money has been spent refurbishing this hotel. We only had breakfast during our stay, the first morning it was cooked to order and very good. Second morning pre-cooked which was ok. Should we visit the area again we will certainly stay at the Legacy Kingscliff.

Stayed here on 26/04 with my wife, booked it as a dinner B&B deal as offered on travel zoo.
On arrival, the outside of the hotel was not quite as enticing as the website portrayed it to be, but the interior, and the rooms were obviously recently refurbished, and the rooms were very nice, with a very comfortable bed.
The bar was nice, very attentive staff, and I enjoyed the evening meal, which came with a good bottle of Rioja, and the breakfast was pretty good also.
Unfortunately, it went downhill from there. There was a function going on that evening, which to be fair was not really noticeable for the time that we were downstairs, but when we went up to bed, it was immediately obvious that the party was in full swing. I say that because our room was directly above the the function room, and we could hear EVERYTHING - as if we were actually in the function room.
I called down about 11pm, and was offered a change of room, and was also told that the party ended at midnight, so my first thought was to tough it out. 20 minutes or so later I rang down again, this time to be told that the function finished at 1am. Not long after that, my wife had enough, and went down to reception. She returned 10 mins later with two young lads who were there to help us change rooms. Apart from leading the way to the other room, they were of no help whatsoever. By the time we got settled, it was around midnight.
This unfortunately spoiled the entire experience, which until the time that we went up to bed, was going very well indeed.
I had told the hotel when I confirmed the booking that it was my birthday, and they knew that the function would mean that the rooms above would be noisy (as I was told the second time that I rang down that they'd had this kind of complaint before), so why oh why was such a monumental error made - especially given the fact that they did actually have rooms available in the quiet part of the hotel ??!!!!!
I was also told that it is hotel policy to advise guests if there is a function, but that didn't happen either.
All in all, what could and should have been a very pleasant stay was completely messed up, which was a shame, as everything else about the hotel was enjoyable.
If you are planning to stay at the Legacy (and I'm definitely not saying you shouldn't) - make sure that you find out if there is a function going on, and if there is, make sure you're placed far away from it.

Holland is a quiet little residential suburb close to Clacton, which just happens to be by the sea, thereby defining the Legacy Kingscliffe Hotel as a seaside hotel. Great, we thought. A chance to enjoy fish and chips and a beer, and the opportunity to allow my exceptionally intelligent and highly qualified lady to feed money continuously into a machine that would grab a bear with three ridiculously loose prongs, lift it 5cm in the air and then drop it again - over and over.

None of that here! Holland on Sea has one seaside feature, and that’s the Legacy Kingscliffe Hotel and nothing more. There are also one or two restaurants within walking distance including Giorgio’s (also reviewed) and a pub, which is so awful I don’t want to use its name ever again. (The Roaring Donkey - you have to read that review!)

The Legacy Kingscliffe Hotel is gorgeous. It’s an old fashioned traditional hotel with lots of wood and endless corridors, which has recently been refurbished, obviously with love. No Hotel Inspector needed here!

The rooms are clearly old because there are fittings for things that no longer exist and are no longer obtainable, but it doesn’t matter. They are comfortable and very pleasant.

Breakfast was a little strange, not least because we were the only guests in a large room, suggesting that the occupancy rate is a lot lower than the hotel deserves, but it was cooked to order and very nice. Why restaurants place baked beans in little pots, as though they are presenting a dish on Masterchef defeats me, but that’s not really a moan - just an observation.

Clacton on Sea is not very far away as the seagull flies, and there are plenty of Teddy-(not)-Grabbing machines there, but if all you require is a very pleasant hotel with its own restaurant and bar and a sea view, this is the place. It really is a very nice hotel.

It seems to have been recently renovated, rooms are nice beds good, bathroom fine, on the room side of things the walls are a bit thin and if someone is up before you in the morning and walk past your room door it's sure to wake you up. Breakfast service was slow and awkward although the food was good, same goes for the bar to, I was over charged on my final bill but I was reimbursed when I raised this. Would We stay again? Yes, it is worth a return visit even though clacton is a dead hole of a place.

Room Tip: Travel to Walton on the naze for restaraunts...
