My wife and I were in need of a vacation from our vacation. We had been traveling via chicken bus and staying in cheap backpacker hostels for several weeks and were looking for a change of pace. We hit the jackpot with Liz and Scott's delightful Rancho Cecilia. Set back from the San Juan del Sur frantic Surf and Party Scene in a hillside forest, the Casita was a perfect place to chill out in a hammock, listen to music, journal and read books purchased at the Gato Negro bookshop or borrowed from Liz and Scott's great collection.
Liz and Scott were fantastic surf hosts, offering advice on which breaks would be best and when. They had a sweet quiver of surfboards for rent and offered surf lessons to beginners. The nearest surf break, Playa Maderas, has a nice reform for beginners and quality outside waves for intermediate/advanced surfers, great exposure to southerly swells and consistent offshore winds for most of the year. As a bonus, there is a fish taco stand on the beach with a cooler full of cold cervezas. Playa Maderas is a bit of a drive/hitchhike from the Casita, but Liz and Scott lined us up with transportation, joined us in the water, and took some great photos of our surf trip.
We are already looking forward to our next visit to the Casita!More
