I highly recommend staying at Casa Ulrich in Pearl Lagoon. It is very well maintained, in a convenient location, very safe and beautiful as well. You can get great food and drinks in the airy and spacious bar, and will always be greeted happily by the owner, Fred and his beautiful dog, Prince. There may be other options in Pearl Lagoon, but this is the best by far.

Room Tip: Splurge for the air conditioned rooms on the second floor for the best experience.

I stayed in Casa Ulrich for a total of four nights. A great little hotel with accommodations for everyone's budget. The owner, Fred, is very helpful and knowledgable about local attractions and guides and English is one of his native languages. His restaurant serves excellent food. Highly recommended!

Really nice place to stay! Fred and Reyna were very helpful - it was a pleasure to chat with both of them. Hotel has a great access to the lagoon, where you can relax during the day; stargaze and play with the water to be fascinated by a ghostly glow-in-the-dark plankton illumination at night. Rooms are clean and simple, sometimes there is no water during the night, so be prepared. Food is great, we didn't wait for it at all. If you will be staying in Pearl Lagoon, I would recommend to kayak to the Izak river (ask Fred, he knows everything - will help you to book kayak), visit local villages (with Augusto Taylor) and certainly visit Pearl Cays - fantastic place!

Although the hosts are lovely and giving and really love their place, there is much to be improved at case ulrich. We waited on one occasion for 1.5 hours for our meal. The food was great tho! The lady who works there is miserable, but after three days i managed to make her smile... she was lovely just untrained in customer service. The restaurant is great but not welcoming to locals so instead filled with older travellers. Upto the last day we were moderately happy... but then we got locked out of the hotel on the last night. NO security, no nothing... my girlfriend climbed the wall and we then had to scale the fence. still no one came out... we called out loads and finally a guy came out... he didn't really apologise, neither did anyone else in the morning. The room was hot, ok but a bit dingy..

I loved pearl lagoon but i feel like they need to work to get that 35 dollar.

It's worth staying at casa Ulrich just for the food! The rooms here are comfortable with private bathroom but the main reason i have rated this place excellent is because of the owner Mr Fred who is one of the nicest and most helpful people I've met on my travels and is an amazing chef. There are limited places to eat here and we tried a few other places in Pearl Lagoon but nothing could compare to Fred's cooking along with his friendly nature and advice. I ate the biggest and best lobster I've ever had at a price so cheap compared to back home, I'd also highly recommend the shrimp pasta and the breakfast. Fred has had a very interesting life and was happy to share with us stories of his travels and the history of his time in Nicaragua, which gave us a good insight into life out there. Fred also spend an afternoon trying to help us with some transport challenges so we could get to el Rama in time for the 9am express bus, there seemed to be no taxis as very few people have cars or those who did seemed to be waiting for the mechanic from blue fields to come and fix it, he hooked us up with a local minivan driver who gave us a very reasonable price for the 4 hour journey on a dirt road to el Rama, we would never have found this without Mr Fred.
