We have been regular clients of Beacon Park Boats for the last 10 years and we are eagerly planning our next visit. Each holiday is different but the boats are always excellent. They are beautifully crafted and equipped to the highest standards, with everything being spotlessly clean.
If you want to be active, then do the trip to Brecon taking in the fun of the locks, the swing bridges and the tunnel. If you would rather not tackle locks (but they are fun and simple) then travel south to Pontymoile. Further than that is a bit tricky as the canal gets shallower and there are a lot of weeds, but we have been down as far as Five Locks in the past. The scenery is beautiful in either direction and entirely different on the way back with fresh surprises around every twist and turn in the canal.
Pubs with excellent food, beer and cider can be found a short walk from your moorings and if you fancy a night in, then sit at your picnic table on the bank with your meal and a bottle of wine enjoying the birdsong. What more can you ask for? The peace and quiet with just wild flowers and nature is a treat. When we visited Crickhowell, we were even lucky enough to watch an otter playing in The River Usk.
We have rented a different boat each time we've ventured out on the Mon and Brec but always with Beacon Park and it has always been a complete pleasure from beginning to end. We've had no complaints at all and we've always felt proud to be out on the water on one of their beautiful boats because they are kept in such pristine condition both inside and out.
This time we chose Kingfisher as this boat has comfy leather chairs in which to relax if it rains, but each of the boats have their own personality and charm.
You have a fantastic business Sarah and Alasdair of which you are justly proud. Your reviews are well earned and we will be returning soon.
P.S. Can we have the recipe for those flapjacks please?
We have been hiring canal boats for decades. Beacon Park boats are the best by far. The specification is stunning- hard wood surfaces everywhere. Top class linen and towels. Good quality toiletries. On Grouse there is a professional standard stainless steel kitchen. Almost all of the boats have a bow thruster for ease of manoeuvring. Even Grouse as the largest boat on the canal is a dream to handle. We got many admiring glances and did impromptu tours for several interested people. This is our second holiday with Beacon Park Boats and the major mark of our enjoyment is that we booked next year's holiday the day after we got back. Only 51 weeks left to go!
We thoroughly enjoyed our week on Peregrine. The boat was very comfortable and well-equipped and the scenery beautiful. The weather was mixed with some lovely sunny days and some overcast, but even when it was a bit cold outside the efficient heating kept us beautifully warm. We moored some nights by villages and some in more remote spots, always quiet and scenic. We loved the pretty stone bridges and wonderful old trees along the canalside. It was great to be able to take the dog who enjoyed towpath walks. We very much hope to go back.
We had three boats, Grouse, Eagle & Merlin so had a great family holiday, The boats had different layouts. Our boat 'Grouse' was a fairly new and beautiful boat with a great layout inside, the kitchen was ample and I was able to prepare lunch for 13 people every day.
Such a marvellous relaxing holiday and we were so lucky with the weather.
Brecon Beacons is stunning in April, great time to visit.
They explained how to use the boats very quickly and we were on our own in no time. Got stuck more than once, but was always able to get ourselves out of trouble. Locks were no problem, I think if there were just two of us it would have been a bit more difficult, but they were fun and there was always people around to give a helping hand.
We had two small dogs on our boat and another on one of the other boats.
All in all, if you are thinking of using Beacon Park Boats, then don't hesitate and book your boat with them, you wont regret it.
The Monmouth Brecon canal, beautiful scenery, abundant wildlife an absolutely wonderful way to spend a holiday. The beds were the most comfortable we had ever slept on,also the pillows.the showers were what you would expect in a five star hotel, even shampoo, conditioner and hand soaps.lovely snowy white fluffy towels. everything in the kitchen you could think of. All of us were impressed. The journey was great, taking in six locks, several bridges and an aquaduct.we moored every night where we could stroll to the pub.The Coach and Horses did amazing food, and we were allowed to take the dogs.Crickhowell is a lovely place,as is Brecon.Thankyou Sarah and Alasdair simply delightful people.Tea,coffee and cake provided.secure parking.we will return.
We have just spent a week on a barge and a week in a cottage .
Boats were all of a high quality , we peaked at some of the bigger boats for an idea for a return holiday with family/ friends.
Our boat Heron was beautiful, the best equipped boat that we have ever been on.
Bow thruster was a must as parts of the canal are very narrow and shallow.
Towels, bed linen , every thing was good quality.
Staff at the boat yard were really helpful , even giving us a telephone number so that we could ring a head to see if we could take the dog with us to a restaurant
Week 2 was spent at Incline cottage , again we were accommodated by the owners who arranged for the cottage to be cleaned early so that we did not have to hang around for hours between the end of the boat holiday and the start of the cottage holiday.
The cottage was fabulous, setting was beautiful and very quiet.
Again every thing there was top quality and brilliantly equipped.
Thanks to the owners and all staff for a fabulous break
We will be back
Thoroughly enjoyed our weekend of narrow boating from Crickhowell to Brecon. The weather was sensational, the canal and countryside was beautiful and all on board had a memorable time. Would thoroughly recommend the experience to young and old and the locks were much easier than I thought they would be!
