This is a wonderful B&B. One of the rooms - the one we stayed in - it's actually a little miniature house made out of a converted dovecote; it has a kitchen and shower downstairs and a large bedroom upstairs full of the alcoves where doves used to nest. The B&B has an incredible garden and beautiful views. The owners greeted us with orange juice and cookies and were extremely friendly and welcoming. The breakfasts in the morning were fab.

The nearby village, Humshaugh, is like an idealised model village. We had dinner in the local pub, the Crown, which was excellent.

This was an absolutely perfect stay. Highly recommended. We stayed here while doing the Hadrian's Wall Walk and it was a great place to recharge after a long day's walking. But the dovecote would be a wonderful base for a longer stay.

Room Tip: Ask for the dovecote!

This is a good B&B, set in a large traditional-style house very close to the Hadrian’s Wall walk (which we were doing). Friendly hosts welcomed us with a pot of tea and nice biscuits on arrival. Good sized room, large comfortable bed, good en suite. Nice breakfast. Got some useful advice on the next leg of the walk; it was nice that the hosts had time to talk to us. Dining room includes a bit of guest living space. They offered packed lunches, which we didn’t need. At £78 it was at the upper end of the pricing of B&Bs in the area.

Everything about this place is lovely. Having 'walked the wall', we were tired and didn't need fuss - just feeding and a comfy place to rest...... the food was home made, delicious and filling and the rooms were clean and very very comfortable. Nothing was too much trouble - the hosts were helpful and friendly but did not intrude - not even on/about our rather boisterous card game! We had a lovely time there and all 6 of us thoroughly enjoyed the experience. I will state location as 'excellent' - it was for us walking the wall but may be remote for some.

Room Tip: All rooms are good - our ground floor one seemed a little bigger. Lots of hot water in good showers.

This is a great place to stay while walking along Hadrian's Wall. The rooms are excellent and the couple who run it are interested in you and interesting themselves. The walled garden is amazing. We had a lovely evening meal and a super breakfast. Highly recommended

This was our second night on our Hadrians wall trail walk. We had only had to walk 8 miles that day in very pleasant conditions. Nice guest house in a beautiful location with a well planted walled garden. The rooms were very good. Breakfast on our departure was also very good. As there are no pubs or restaurants close by serving dinner we ate at the guest house. Although the food provided was good we thought that for the Spaghetti bolognese followed by apple pie and half a bottle of wine the seventeen pounds charged was at tad expensive.

My Mother, son and I stayed here on 6&7 June whilst attending a family Wedding at nearby St Oswald's church. We were given suggestions of nearby hotels and B&B's, but the Dovecote appealed to me the most, based on what I saw on the website. I'm so pleased I chose it as it was idyllic. Jane greeted us with a warm welcome, and tea and biscuits in the glorious garden, whilst me son played with the two adorable dogs. Jane even moved my son's bed upstairs so we could enjoy slightly more room upstairs in the main house, rather than the room downstairs that she had originally allocated us. The rooms were very clean and tastefully decorated and had the most comfortable beds! Breakfast was delicious with lots of local and homemade ingredients. Would highly recommend.
