“Beware the bricks and the tide”
Reviewed 10 August 2013

This is an ideal beach for young families; it slopes gently and the firm sand is safe to walk on for miles (literally) out into the estuary. Note that there's a relatively deep channel about a quarter mile out and this fills first when the tide comes in. Not deep but fills with a strong current an adult will not easily wade through and keep his footing. Note also there was a brickworks here in the early 20th Century and they used their reject bricks as a sea wall. So digging in the sand near the short occasionally yields hard surprises with sharp corners

“East Beach”
Reviewed 30 July 2013

Large grassed area with direct access to mainly stony beach, water quality very good. Large separate pay & display council care park on site. Toilet facilities are ok but need more at very busy times. Refreshments & ice creams etc from a mobile take away, great area for a picnics though.

“Beach and park with toilets”
Reviewed 29 July 2013

It used to be littered with late night revellers and the problems that brings but the council lock the car park at dusk so it's less of a problem now. During daylight it's a nice place to picnic although the permenant cafe is yet to be replace a decent van provides refreshments and teh tiolets are reasonable. The beach is a bit limited, rocky ans sparce due to 'long shore drift' as they said at school. The breakwaters are knackered and the sand gets washed away is what's happened. Great for kite surfing and on a crisp clear night a huge expanse with no light polution great for star gazing.

“A return visit to this stunning beach”
Reviewed 23 June 2013 via mobile

Visited again and this time on a blustery but clear day and it is still so beautiful. The tide was out and kite surfers could be seen quite far from the shore. You could also see the wind turbines in the distance.

It provides the ideal location for a bracing walk with plenty of fresh air.

There is a picnic bench area which I think has BBQs too. This is near the side which has the toilets and the steps to the beach. If you walk to the further end of the beach there's no steps, you just walk down onto the beach over a few dunes.

There is a two storey cafe planned for this beach. Not sure when that's due to arrive. In the meantime my advice is to bring a picnic.

The best thing about this beach is that it doesn't sit alongside or near a main road. So you don't hear traffic whizzing past or breathe in the fumes. The car park is set back from the beach quite a distance. If you visit by train, it is just a short walk from Shoeburyness station.

Thoroughly recommended for a visit.
