Stayed for a week from 11 August with daughter and son in law and their two children 2 & 5. The hotel is a very interesting architectural masterpiece in my view. There is a Moroccan and African theme to the buildings. There are seven outdoor pools each different. Our favourite was the Lazy River where one did circuits in a gently "flowing" current. The one way traffic ensured there was no crowding or collisions and lilos etc were easily accommodated. The usual towel reserving sunlounger farce was much in evidence despite the hotels efforts to discourage it. Short of a ticketing or official reserving system it is difficult to see what could be done. But generally there is so much space around all the pools combined it appeared no one was too inconvenienced.

The complex itself is compact but designed with a spacious feel so nowhere seemed crowded. The food selections in the various restaurants were varied and suited all tastes. The service was good especially considering the feverish activity during peak meal times.

The entertainment was adequate but not spectacular but that is no reflection on the entertainers who worked hard. The children's "disco" was a little disappointing in the evening as everything tended to shut down on the outdoor stage about 8.30 and clearly another hour would have been profitable to the hotel and enjoyed by parents and kids alike.

We went on a couple of excursions provided by the Travel company, a submarine and a dolphin park, the kids loved them I was quite happy in the hotel but it broke the week for them.

3 small gripes. we asked to be nearish reception due to infirmity of one of the party in the event we could not have been further away but that might not be a hotel but rather the travel company's allocation. The other two are clearly the hotel and why I do not give a 5 star rating, 1- I do not believe any hotel should be charging for WiFi, there was free Wifi in some public areas
but it was charged for in the rooms and from what I heard it was not satisfactory and people cancelled their subscription. 2- Charging for the safe in the room is also a bit of a cheek 3 Euros a day I think. No justification in my view and most hotels do not charge for this.

However All in all an excellent holiday we did not see a cloud all week I would return to this hotel and would confidently recommend it to anybody.

Stayed here in June with my other half, didn't quite know what to expect when we first booked it but it went above and beyond our expectations! The staff are all so welcoming and always on hand to help. I think the British could learn a few things from them!
The buffet meals were good, although some themed nights I found myself eating the chicken nuggets and chips (which are obviously laid out for the kids) as I didn't fancy anything on the menu, far too fussy for themed meals I feel.
Our hotel room was amazing. You walk in to a spacious bathroom/wet room and then a bedroom come living area with a balcony which is about the size of the bedroom (massive), our view was of other hotels and a glimpse of the sea through the two hotels but who goes on holiday to sit on their balconies all night? Not us! The beds were always made up for you in the evenings and they clean the rooms immaculately! I would definitely go back to this hotel again!
Would recommend if you have a late flight the day you are checking out to book a late check out, which is 6pm. Otherwise you have to book a courtesy room for an allocated time the morning you are leaving! We did this as late check out was not available for our room. Our courtesy room was booked for 5 and we didn't get in there until 5:15 due to the family before running over their half hour allowance! Was very annoying when our transfer to the airport was at half 5! However I must say that was the only down side to our holiday! A very stressful down side but nevertheless we made the coach and our flight :(
Fantastic Holiday!! Recommend it to everyone I talk to!! Will hopefully return one day!!

This was by far the best holiday I have EVER had!!!!! When we arrived we were told we or room had been upgraded.......our room was amazing (the cleaners are so thorough), our room led out to a gorgeous pool which wasn't too busy and we always were able to get sun loungers. You MUST venture around the whole of the complex on your first day........it is huge and out of the 7 pools, there is always a favorite for everybody. The food selection is amazing, great selection. The entertainment staff are so friendly (especially Bruce), they are there if you need them, but if you want to be left alone that's fine too. The service in reception is always spot on and all the staff are so willing to help.....the Baobab is a very special place.....thanks for a great holiday!!!! "Ben, hannah, Sam and Max"

Fantastic hotel. Returned last Monday after a 2 week stay with our 7 year old daughter. First impressions, when walking into the hotel reception area was 'wow'. Hotel and the grounds were really impressive. Spotlessly clean and really well laid out (albeit very vast too!). Hotel room was just as impressive. Very spacious, spotless, and really well appointed. We had a room overlooking the front of the hotel, on the second floor. Had a view of one of the smaller pools and the waste ground at the front of the hotel, but was beautiful in the evening as the sun set on the balcony.
Food was excellent for the whole fortnight with plenty of choice every day. We were lucky to get a very cheap upgrade to full board, and the lunchtime food was just as good as that in the evening.
Didn't use the kids club, but our little one enjoyed the mini disco most nights. Did seem as if there was plenty to do for kids, if they wanted.
Saw a couple of the shows in the evening. These were a little bit 'hit and miss', as some were much better than others. However, the house band in the Richard burton bar was very good.
Vast majority of the hotel staff were really helpful, and friendly, although one or two could remember to smile a bit more... Thomson reps (Kate and Victoria) were fantastic. We didn't have to use them for any problems, but they were really helpful, and knowledgeable and always a smiling face.
We've been to a number of Thomson's sensatori resorts (Crete, Tenerife and Mexico), and we would say that Baobab is right up with them. Thoroughly recommend this hotel, with one or two minor recommendations... (For a 5 star hotel don't agree with paying for wi-fi and safety deposit boxes, and also think tea and coffee making facilities in your room should also be included).
Finally, would like to add that the resort of Meloneras is also fantastic.

We spent 10 nights in the 5-star lopesan baobab hotel. The hotel has a very good location, the facilities are also unique (design and layout of the pools, buildings). We enjoyed our stay very much.

There are many hotel pools, and many guests; at first sight these two factors don't affect each other, however it turned out later that the amount of chairs are limited and even though the hotel has a no chair reservation policy and they've started to enforce it, many times we still had problem finding chairs. A solution we found: go to the outside pools.

Other problems were: Internet is from the 80s, thus extremely slow, unusable in the lobby area, except in the mornings. This is unacceptable in 2014. It brought us out of balance. Moreover, the PR is trying to appear nice but it took us a few days of negotiations so a lot of time and nerves to get a compensation for 2 nights of no sleep because our first room was very noisy due to the open air moonlight cinema. When we succeeded, actually they forced us to take part of their offer, and they listened only after some long time to what kind of compensation we'd like to get.

Thus, if you're lucky with the room, you can have a good time in this hotel.

In line with its five star status, the Baobab is a cut above your average Mediterranean hotel with attentive, courteous staff and the African theme to the buildings make it quite unique. Despite being a large hotel it is very cleverly laid out so that it never feels overcrowded and the seven swimming pools (including a kids pool, an infinity pool, one with a beach and one with a lazy river) means that there is plenty of room to spread out. The grounds, with waterfalls, terrapin pool and trees growing mangoes, oranges, lemons and pomegranates are very pleasant to wander round. The location is excellent with shops, including a supermarket for your essentials, within 5 minutes walk and the fabulous beach and sand dunes of Maspalomas are a 10 minutes walk away. There is a good selection of entertainment throughout the day and don't miss Florian's cocktail making workshops: brilliant fun. The room was very spacious for a family of four with two double beds and bathroom with a huge square bath, Amazon shower and Corallium toiletries from the spa. There was no noise at night and I slept like a log throughout the holiday. The quality of food in the restaurant was excellent. I started every day with a glass (or two!) of Cava for breakfast and the desserts at dinner were particularly impressive. If you have kids, they will love the chocolate fountain on Friday. If you want to travel around, the best tour I could find was from lowcosttoursgrancanaria.com, who will take you round the island for 29 euros. If you want to visit specific places yourself the bus station is 5 minutes from the hotel (go left and left). I would recommend La Palma for the old town around the cathedral (6.15 euros each way), Teror for a historic town (2.30 euros each way from La Palma) and Puerto de Mogan for a pretty harbour with whitewashed villas and bougainvillea (4.15 euros each way).

We returned from a week half board at the Baobab on 9th August. My partners Mum and Dad treated my 6 year old Son, my partner, his brother and girlfriend and myself to the holiday as they have been several times before and are in love with the place. And we were not disappointed!! What an amazing hotel!! Such gorgeous pools and the food was great. The only gripe I have is with the sunbeds - if you're not willing to get up early (7am -8am) then you will struggle to get them. It's annoying that you get people who reserve them for hours at a time without coming back to them. We got some towels moved one morning by a member of staff as they had 3 towels covering SIX beds!! Cheeky! The daily mini disco for the kids is great - my Son made lots of friends which he was sad to leave behind at the end of our stay. We would love to return, fingers crossed for that lottery win!!!

General description Five-star hotel Lopesan Baobab Resort has become one of the preferred destinations for family holidays of Spanish national tourists. Thanks to the uniqueness of its architecture inspired by the African continent, its impressive water landscapes with pools, rivers and waterfalls, as well as the high quality services offered, this hotel shows off ethnic charm, modernity and refinement. The hotel’s main entrance leads guests over a picturesque wooden bridge to the reception area, passing a grandiose aquatic landscape with waterfalls. From the lobby you can reach the hotel rooms or the large garden area, on a surface of 56,000 square metres, in the centre of which a large 21 metres high wooden African lodge is located; this lodge houses a restaurant and a bar. Common areas are connected by an extensive sheet of water crisscrossed by small bridges. In total there are nine swimming pools (all of them heatable at different temperatures) covering a total surface of 4,245 square metres. Specially outstanding are: the “lazy river”, two artificial beaches, pools with waterfalls and caves, the “chocolate” pool (the name of which refers to its brown colour) and the “two palm trees” pool, as well as a pool with water attractions for children and babies. The hotel’s leisure and recreation areas are enriched even more by a complete entertainment programme with a variety of activities during the day and in the evenings. Materials used for the hotel’s interior decoration and design were carefully chosen searching the appropriate item for every single corner of the hotel complex. On the walls of the hotel’s buffet restaurants guests will appreciate layers of natural coconut and wooden bricks, as well as French porcelain stoneware on the floors of the pool areas. Regarding the hotel rooms an exquisite finishing with high-quality woodwork and sound insulation was chosen. Other materials which can be found around the hotel are dry bamboo, die-cut steel or coloured mortar with added shredded straw to simulate adobe. Rooms The rooms’ interior design carefully combines colour schemes and African ambience. The Lopesan Baobab was built on a plot of 72,000 square metres with a total of 522 standard double rooms, 8 of them modified for guests with limited mobility and 17 deluxe double rooms with pool, perfect for guests looking for privacy, romanticism and/or relaxation; there are also 55 family doubles and 15 family doubles with direct access to the “chocolate” and the “two palm trees” pools, as well as 8 superior double rooms, 40 junior suites, 20 senior suites and 1 royal suite. There is no doubt that the hotel’s different room categories can meet any requirement or need guests may have, since they can choose from comfortable standard rooms, spacious family rooms, luxury rooms or magnificent suites for young and old. All rooms offer excellent views which vary depending on their location, as for example beautiful panoramic views on the dunes, on the nearby palm oasis, on the hotel’s garden area or the island’s mountain landscape. Gastronomy The Lopesan Baobab Resort offers high quality cuisine in all restaurants, characterized by an elevated level of creativity. For this purpose the hotel’s select kitchen staff puts special emphasis on using the best products and on preparing them in presence of the hotel guests. The ‘Akara’ Restaurant is only open for dinner and its name refers to an African recipe; it offers flavours from the very heart of Africa with a menu committed to originality. The hotel’s second a la carte restaurant is the ‘Pili Pili’ Restaurant, open at lunchtime and specialised in paellas, seafood and grilled meat. Furthermore, there are two buffet restaurants, the ’Marula’ and the ‘Baobab’, the premises of which are conveniently separated to provide differentiated atmospheres where delicacies from international occidental cuisine are served. The restaurants’ wine cellar provides an excellent selection of the finest wines from around the world as a complement to the great gastronomic offer. The hotel also hosts five bars, two of them located in the pool areas; Henry Stanley bar and Mungo Park Bar complete the resort’s restaurant and bar options. Leisure and sports activities The hotel has at its guests’ disposal a complete and varied entertainment programme, offering something for everybody. Many of the organised activities take place during the day and in the evenings, when it’s just the right time to have a drink or enjoy professional shows on the hotel’s outdoor plaza, on a specially designed stage, next to the magnificent African lodge. Furthermore the resort offers a fully-equipped gym and a varied wellness programme, as well as other activities for sports fans. For golf fans the golf courses of Meloneras Golf and Maspalomas Golf are available and a free bus shuttle service to these golf courses is provided by the hotel.
