Fantastic resort. Have stay three time now and each time we love it. Can’t wait to go back. Staff are polite and helpful, hotel is clean and tidy. Gardens and pool areas clean and well looked after. 5 star holiday

The pros certainly outweigh the cons in this resort complex. The buffet food at both breakfast and dinner was by far the best we’ve encountered, hot, tasty and a great choice. The staff have to be commended for their professionalism in keeping such a large clientele fed and without having to wait for a table. Mealtimes ran very smoothly except for the biggest drawback which has been mentioned many times but it can’t be overlooked - the huge number of small children who managed to create such a volume of noise, screaming, crying etc which always managed to spoil an enjoyable dining experience. Why couldn’t they all sit together and leave the rest of us in peace? Our room was very spacious and comfortable with a large balcony which overlooked the road and then out to sea. The double glazed doors completely shut out any noise at night. The sink area and bathroom floor had certainly seen better days although the actual fittings were very new and modern. Biggest fault with the room was the height of the hangers in the wardrobe, the type which don’t easily lift of the rail and have a fiddly bit to hook in. We are both a good height but had to stand on tiptoes to even get close to reaching them! The pool areas were fantastic and the gardens just beautiful. Such a pleasure to walk round them. I would certainly recommend this resort as it has so much going for it but I hesitate to say I would return due to the noise of the children. It’s really better suited to families than couples.

Dear Carol,

thank you very much for hav visited the Lopesan Baobab & Resort, for your nice comments to our staff and facilities and shared your opinion with the other users.

It is true that there a lot of children on the hotel due to we are a family hotel, however, there are two buffets on the hotel, one for families "Marula" and the other one for couples "Baobab".

It is the same regarding to the pools, there are two quiet pools on the hotel where you can enjoy a relaxing day with your partner.

Thank you very much again for your comments and he hope to be your second home on Gran Canaria.

Kind Regards

The Baobab is a beautiful place, the hotel itself is huge and its especially wonderful when lit up in the dark.

Our room was great, easy access and plenty of room for the three of us adults (Parents and one hard to please 16 year old boy, who loved it). Slight issue with the ceiling in the shower which seemed to start bubbling and towards the end of the week, assumed this was from the heat and steam in the shower. The turn down service, which is a great treat when used, seemed to get earlier and earlier through the week, understandingly the hotel is massive so there are a lot of rooms to get around but when the maid knocks the door at 5.30pm and you're getting ready for dinner its not the best. Also, there is noise between rooms, which wasn't an problem for us, we've all had crying babies. The couple next door to us did have an almighty argument at the start of our stay, with slamming doors and shouting, but they stopped before it became an issue and we had to inform reception thankfully.

Food is good, not a massive selection but everything was great.
There were a few issues with the restaurants overall. Just put the teaspoons on the tables in the morning, its easier than having to ask for one....every morning! The toaster is shocking, took three rotations to slightly toast the edges of my bread, gave up in the end and ate scrambled egg on bread for a week.
Main issue with the restaurant is the rule for men wearing long trousers and closed shoes. The shoe rule was news to us on arrival and we ended up missing our first evening meal as the husband hadn't brought any and we had to buy some the following morning. I had previously asked the question regarding shoes on Trip Advisor and was told that open toe flip-flops/sandals would be ok. But this rule seems to be hit and miss as we saw a few men through the week not wearing closed shoes.
The main issue we had with the long trousers rule is its not held to any standard, there are men in jeans and men in jogging bottoms with trainers! If you're insisting on long 'smart' trousers for the men then don't let someone in with pair of Nike bottoms on. Its also a bit rubbish that the men have to adhere to this rule but there is no standard set for women, a t-shirt, denim shorts and flip-flops is fine as long as the men in your party have the bottom half of their legs covered.

The pools were all great, no issue with getting a great spot on a lounger and we worked our way around all the pools by the end of the week.

Would highly recommend adding credit card to your room, as you just charge all drinks straight to your number then settle up when checking out.

Local area is great for a wander, head through though the closest small shopping mall and you arrive at the sea front.

Also the moonlight cinema, although not cheap, was a lovely experience.

Overall our stay at the Baobab was wonderful, the staff are all super friendly, quick and efficient. The grounds are beautiful. Go for a wander around, you'll even find turtles in the lobby of the one the blocks.

Would definitely recommend this hotel.

Firstly, we spotted this hotel on the TUI website very reasonably priced for a week in June, considering its a 5 star. Did the usual, checked on TripAdvisor and booked it.

We didn't arrive till 930pm so it was a fairly late arrival. The staff on reception were warm and welcoming greeting us with a glass of bubbles. Prior to arriving my wife had sent an email asking if we could upgrade to a room with its own swimming pool upon arrival - there was a note on our booking and upon checking in, the reception regrettably informed us that this was not possible, however they would upgrade us to a Junior Suite at no extra charge (We had booked a basic room). Happy days!

We ended up just about making it for some food at one of the 2 buffet restaurants before it shut at 10pm then going back to get our cases to make our way in the dark to room 5045 - and boy is the hotel dark!

This is where the fun began - lugging two cases and hand luggage around the hotel wasn't fun. Its a huge place and the signs for the rooms are non existent. We ended up finding out way to our block after 20 minutes of walking.

We got to the room, and wow! The room was really spacious, with its own living area with Television, a lovely bathroom area with a huge bath, and a spacious walk in shower, with the toilet seperate and private.

The bedroom was also spacious, with plenty of plug sockets and also a TV on the wall. The bed was also comfy. You can "rent" pillows of a pillow menu should you want extra comfort, but the prices seemed excessive!

The balcony was also huge - and the view looked out onto a road, with mountains and a partial sea view - pleasant enough.

The room provided us with a comfortable 7 night stay in Gran Canaria, and the Air Con is very impressive. The room also has a mini bar but the prices again are excessive so we emptied it and placed our own drinks in. No issues here.

Right, now the restaurants......

We didnt bother eating in the a la carte places - although we did get offered the chance to have three courses in the akamba for 19.95 euros which we declined.

We ate at both the buffet restaurants for breakfast and dinner. Both restaurants are good, although the small restaurant (near to ground floor bar) can sometimes get very busy, and due to this, they open at 630pm and close the doors at 730pm, then re-open at 830pm.

The other buffet restaurant is much bigger and has 2 serving counters. All the food is exactly the same and its themed daily. From what I can recall, the themes are Italian, Canarian, Oriental, Sea and Mountain, African and inernational.

I would say that the choice of food isnt huge, however what ever the choice was, it was always of good quality and tasty.

The same for breakfast, this was the usual affair - although no proper sausages.

There is some downfalls to the restaurants and food though......

Tea spoons are a rare commodity here - just place them on the tables!! Instead you have to ask for this.

Food more often than not was cold! There were several occasions where I had to stand and place my plate in the microwave provided to put some heat back into the food. I would suggest the hotel need to upgrade their serving counters becuase they are quite clearly not efficient enough!!

Pool areas are great and we never had any issues getting a sunbed around the lazy river (We always sat at the lazy river). The lazy river is lovely and quiet, with minimal noise. I believe they have activities down the other pools if your that way inclined. The lazy river is fantastic though - takes about 10 minutes to get round and the temperature of the water is just right. Perfect!

The drinks at the hotel are fine. Yes its not the cheapest however go out of the resort and find a bar serving cheap drinks - you wont find one. The cocktails at the hotel ar around 6 euros each. Outside the hotel you'll find this is the same price if not more.

If you fancy venturing out of the hotel there is a lovely boulevard down by the front with plenty of restaurants and bars, along with shops. The sunset can be fantastic down there. I went to the 19th Hole to watch the footy - they show every game but the drinks arent cheap. We also had a meal at the Misbah Indian which was lovely!

There is a supermarket over the road from the hotel which is reasonably priced - you can get 5 litre bottle of water there for around 1.30 euro. Much cheaper than the hotel!

Finally, the Wifi we found to be "ok". This is a pay service which worked out about 15 odd euros for the whole week. Same as the Safe, but I expect these kind of charges anyway.

We had a lovely stay at the Baobab, yes there are some minor issues which the hotel management should probably sort out, but its a lovely change to visit a resort where you dont have drunken brits around the pool, full of the all inclusive booze. It felt like a middle class resort, dominated by mainly our fellow europeans from Germany. The selection of TV channels reflect this. Maybe this is something that can be improved on too? Would be nice to have something more than Sky News and Bloomberg!

Would I visit again? I sure would if the price was right!
