We chose this place for our honeymoon. Although this place has had minimal bad reviews compared to positive ones we were still apprehensive and wondered how anywhere could be as good as people said. It is huge but wierdly nothing was too far away. When we arrived we had roses, champagne, got a free spa experience for two and an meal for two in the Italian restuarant. The staff were spoke pretty fluent English, German and Spanish and nothing seemed too much trouble. How the waiters carry those very full trays with just 3 fingers and one arm behind their back at such speed is impressive just on it's own! I think if you go in with an attitude anywhere then some staff can bite back (unprofessional as that is), but we had no reason to have an attitude and even if we had, the staff all seemed very experienced and polite.

The rooms were very clean, and spacious and had good air conditioning systems. They all had balconies with airers for the towels and every balcony overlooked either garden's or a pool. Not difficult really considering there were 4 outdoor pools, not including the baby pool and another 3 pools of varying temperatures in the spa area. Of course the most impressive pool is the infinity pool which gives the illusion of going out to the sea and this is huge. All pools were crystal clear and spotlessly clean. The Spa is amazing and we thought 35 euros was quite reaonable for the 4 hour spa experience which takes you through all kinds of relaxation/therapy rooms. It is impossible not to come out feeling like a new person, our favourite was the flotation salt pool, the African Sauna and the Igloo.

The main two buffet restaurants can get busy and queues do form but mainly because people choose to all turn up about half hour before they close. There is such a huge array of dishes from Chinese and English through to authentic Canarian. There are also 4 other restaurants from a la carte to Italian, two of which have panoramic views of the sea and there are lots of restaurants both front and back of the hotel on the boulevards.

The gardens are beautiful, we didn't even experience any mozzies when we went and the weather is lovely and warm all year round with some nice breezes.

Yes there are no tea making facilities and all the double rooms are twins pushed together, but who cares? We were on our honeymoon but didn't care. Yes there are kids, but it is a family resort. Yes it is expensive but so is anywhere with the Euro and yes people do annoyingly reserve sunbeds early which the hotel are trying to clamp down on, but this happens everywhere and the place is so well designed you WILL find somewhere (sometimes even nice and secluded) if you are prepared to walk around for 5 minutes. Most of the time we found places straight away and occassionally had certain pools to ourselves although the place was fully booked. (We went peak season). The entertainment is sometimes a bit naff and sometimes quite good but we didn't really care. The terrace is huge with water fountains and whether ballroom, jazz or pop is your thing or not, it was lovely watching the sun set with a cocktail in the lovely big armchairs they have. If you can't bare even the slightest wiff of a cigarette then don't go. As per anywhere continental, people are welcome to smoke at restaurants as long as it is outside and people do, but it is so lovely and breezy that you can barely tell. Certainly the rooms themselves were not smoked in as far as I could tell.

There are cheap shops and expensive boutiques along with bog standard pizza to some of the best restaurants in the Canary Islands both front and back of the hotel, I have to mention an amazing tapaz bar straight in front of the hotel, can't remember what it is called but the food is delicious. It is only a taxi ride from anywhere that has either nightlife, culture or beach. (The dunes are amazing). In one of the pools you can swim up to the bar and order a drink/cocktail or sandwich which we found very nice! There is of course also a fabulous casino and an amazing golf course it is just they weren't our thing.

Incidently, I have spent 15 years within the holiday industry both as a rep and in admin so I am not particularly easily pleased. This place however ticked every single box. If you wan't somewhere that is not on top of night life but not far, or you want somewhere to just completely chill while having every whim catered for by professional people in warm and luxurious surroundings, you know where to go.

Suffice to say we will definately be going back.

Couple of moneysaving tips.

Eat a good breakfast as the only thing served at lunch time in the pool bars are about 3 different varieties of sandwich. You can get pizza and sometimes they make pancakes. There is also a luxury restaurant that can be booked for lunch and plenty of places outside the hotel, but if you are someone who wants to flop by the pool and not move more than 10 feet from where you are then the bars themselves have a very limited snack menu.

Buy your water from the shop and leave in fridge or you will be paying nearly 4 euros a day.

Get a big litre of coke/water or something to take with you to the pools or you will spend money very quickly at the bars, drinks are between 5 and 10 euros a time which depending how many of you are going can add up if you do that two or three times a day. Some of their cocktails do however need to be sampled at some point!

Don't feel obliged to tip. Most places have a service charge and the hotel doesn't expect it at all. If no service charge and you feel that you have received a good service then 10% is enough.

If you need camera, sunglasses etc, walk further down to the supermarket or you will pay through the nose at the boutiques, unless of course you want something designer.

Whilst the hotel card is a good idea and handy to use to spend instead of cash, do check with reception on a regular basis how much you have spent as it really can easily escalate.

Happy holidays!

The best hotel I have ever stayed in. It is a huge place with plenty of room for exploration. We had a fantastic time. Would recommend it to anyone. Loads to do for couples and families. Polite friendly staff. The spa with it's flotation cavern is not to be missed.

Good hotel, enjoyed our stay very clean, helpfull staff. Best hotel we have stayed in while visiting Grand Canary. The hotel is situated at the edge of the sand dunes which lead to the beach which was great. We would go back and stay again.

This was our 6th consecutive trip to Gran Canaria and this hotel is by far the best we have stayed in. Although this is a massive hotel it didn't take us very long to sus out a short cut from our room, near the Ladon and Spa pools, to the main Plaza.
Our holidays are mostly to chill out so it was great to be able to have breakfast up to 11 each day, taken in a lovely courtyard setting, whenever we wanted.
Unfortunately I was waiting to have a hip replacement op so didn't make use of the numerous pools but they all were well maintained as was the rest of the hotel.
Half board option was fine and there was always a varied menu. Flexible dining was available for half board guests and I'm looking forward to taking this option next time we visit.
Evening entertainment was varied throughout the various bars but it was lovely just to spend the evening in the central plaza watching the world go by.My only concern was the number of unsupervised children in the plaza area at night I'm no fuddy duddy but kids climbing up and down onto the stage whilst the resident band perform doesn't seem right to me.
The spa area was the best we have come across and the treatments were wonderful.
Have already booked for next summer, and now that I've had my hip replacement op, I'm looking forward to sampling more of the hotel's excellent facilities.

If you are looking for a relaxation and tranquillity this hotel is obviously not the right place to go. With more than 1000 rooms it reminded of a tremendous kindergarten with screaming, crying, shouting children everywhere. On my stay I changed 5 rooms before having got a more or less quiet one. Yet it took 6 days for changing out of my 10 for vacation. The hotel is croudy, there is no place for privacy and seclusion at all. The reception staff is not always polite and ready to help.
The only impressive thing is lobby interior and some decoration. I compared it with Riu Grand Palace Maspalomas Oasis and it is a big difference, my vacations were spoilt completely
