An overnight business trip to Truro and looking for a place to eat found Hooked. Luckily it was a 2 minute walk from the hotel, it was a very cold evening so the short walk was appreciated.
Studying the menu, the attentive staff pointed out the specials, the choice of food was very good.
I don't eat Crab that often, I think the last time was when a friend was visiting her family in Cromer and bought back a couple, so for starters I went for the Crab taster, a hand picked Crab salad, Thermidor and Crab and Sweetcorn Chowder. It was very very good, my only observation being the Chowder could have taken a little more Salt, which I added myself. All three Crab dishes were really tasty, a the mixture of cold and hot was also a nice experience in on dish. The Crab was sweet and obviously VERY fresh, this was the start of a delicious meal.
For mains I went for one of the specials, 1/2 a Lobster, Crevettes and Scallops with a small green Salad and Frites. Oh my God, it was simple but really really tasty, suitable tools were supplied for digging every gram of meat from the Lobsters crevices 😀 It was awesome value for money and I was really please I went with this dish.
I don't eat desserts that often as I am Type I diabetic but my nurse says the occasional treat is fine, so I picked the 'HOOKED CREAM TEA"
Clotted Crème Brulee, Tregothnan Earl Grey & lemon Parfait with Rosé Jelly & shortbread.
What a fantastic finish to the meal, it wasn't too rich, the flavours subtle complemented by the textures of shortbread.
Hooked in Truro is a fantastic restaurant, the kitchen is open so you can see the Chefs at work, the staff are attentive but not over fussy, and the food was fabulous, I eat out quite a lot due to work and this sits at the higher end of my recent food experiences, it's worth a detour.
