“Not bad but not great”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 May 2013

2nd time of staying here. Great location and bedrooms are great. Friendly staff but slooow.
Breakfast in the morning was good but took too long and second time of staying i have had to ask for cereal bowls to be put out.
Its location is great and if you park over the road on the council car park it's cheaper than the hotel parking.
I would stay here again but come on sort the breakfast out, and how about reducing the price, its not the cheapest
However the Beer is first rate!

Now called The Barley. Very centrally located. I stayed there one night. Was given a friendly welcome, with offer to take my suitcase upstairs. A large, clean, recently decorated bedroom with a view of Truro Cathedral. Large very comfortable bed. Large ensuite with monsoon shower, also immaculately clean. Free wifi. Did not eat there in the evening but had a good breakfast the following morning: orange juice, choice of yoghurt, fruit or cereals, fresh coffee, full English with black pudding, a very good sausage and good bacon, as well as fried egg and choice of white or brown toast. I willdefinitely stay again if in Truro.

Good situation but dirty slippery decked area is not good sign. Pleasant receptionist/waitress. You have to pay extra to use car park! Bedroom good size and nice clean bedding and towels but shower cubicle and bathroom floor needs good scrub. Breakfast!! Just two choices of cereal. Only orange juice. 30 min wait for cooked breakfast which was cold had to ask for toast and smallest amount of butter. Would not recommend this place.

We stayed one night at this hotel after a concert at the Hall for Cornwall. Our room was clean, tidy, warm and welcomining. Shower room was good but the tiles and grouting needed a good bleaching in the shower area.

Breakfast was a huge disappointment. Only one choice of fruit juce available (pineapple) when we arrived and hardly any cereals. Some yogurts turned up whilst we were waiting for our traditional cooked breakfast which took over half an hour to arrive. When it did arrive, it was cold and both our breakfasts had 1/4 of a field mushroom on it. Why would you put 1/4 of a mushroom on a plate? We only had one slice of toast each as well which was put on our plate and not served separately.

Be very careful of the decking outside the back entrance where guests come in after the bar as closed. It was very icy the night we stayed and i fell over on the decking because it was so slippery. There is also a lack of lighting in this area so I also missed the large step up onto the decking as it was so dark, cut my shin and now have very nasty bruising on my leg.

We would most probably stay at the Riverbank again as it is so convenient being in the centre of Truro but they really need to sort the breakfast out!

I stayed 2 nights at the Riverbank last week whilst in Truro on business. I was really disappointed to find out the restaurant wasn't open during the week as this had been one of the reasons I had booked to stay there. I understand there is a new owner (within the last month) and this has resulted in a decision to close the restaurant mid week. My room was large, clean and warm, with stylish en suite. The staff were really helpful and friendly, but I couldn't help but feel the place was lacking in soul, which is such a shame as it's in a fantastic location and has the potential to be a fabulous place to stay....Watch this space I guess if there's a new owner.....

Stayed for one night whilst on business. The hotel/bar was between management so things were a little unfinished and clinical, but it has the makings of a great place to stay and eat.
Bedrooms were very large, modern and bright, bathrooms were exceptional, large shower etc.
Bar was empty but again could be a great place with some tweaks, great location in centre of town.
Breakfast was superb ! I hope that somebody makes a go of this place it could be a real gem.

The Riverbank is located next to the Cathedral and very close to the city.
Rooms are large and bright, with en-suite and mine overlooked the decking area and local stream.
Staff are very welcoming, friendly and attentive to your needs, everything you need to make your stay a pleasant one, and for future visits.
Highly recommended.
