“more like a boutique hotel”
Reviewed 11 September 2012

This B & B was was more like the best boutique hotel. The perfect retreat, lovely rooms, peaceful, exotic gardens, with pool. Lovely home-made full english breakfast, homemade bread, biscuits and jam, if all Bed & Breakfasts were like this I would never, ever use a hotel again. Great base for exploring the area.

This beautiful B&B ticks all the boxes. Judy and Chris are charming but inobtrusive, making the most tasty breakfasts, and nothing is too much trouble. The pool looked inviting but sadly the weather prevented its use. Our room was enormous with the most divine bed ever, like sleeping in a cosy nest. After a good meal in Truro it was a steep climb back to South Penarth, but the taxi fare was exactly as Judy advised. We would stay again without hesitation, well done.

This really reasonably priced B & B was more like a boutique hotel - quiet character house, a suite of rooms, private gardens (with huge, exotic palm trees!), generous outdoor swimming pool, homemade biscuits delivered to your room, lovely full English breakfast. Maybe could have done without 'The Girl From Ipanema' playing in the background as we breakfasted both mornings, though she did add to the surreal impression that we had died and gone to heaven rather than be within a mile of Truro city centre. Only two rooms (two suites?) available - though a third on its way we understood - so better hurry to book. Though if we can't get in again after this review I will be well peeved.

Room Tip: Ask for the family suite overlooking the gardens

Travelling as a family with our teenage son, my sister and her husband was sometimes tricky trying to find the perfect set up for the five of us. South Penarth House suited us perfectly, Judy was great host and made us all feel welcome and at home. The rooms were beautiful and we loved the special touches. The home made biscuits were a treat and it was one of the few b & b.'s that supplied fresh milk in our rooms for our cuppa's. Breakfast was delicious and Judy made us feel at home and filled us in on the history of the house. The only down side was we only had one night, would loved to have stayed longer. Coming from Australia it was my first ever b & b so it was a real treat.

Our weekend was very relaxing in a lovely room overlooking the garden and heated outdoor swimming pool.Judy was very welcoming and pays a lot of attention to detail from the fresh flowers and home-made biscuits to the candlelight in the guests' sitting room in the evening. Breakfasts were delicious with good coffee and home-made jams. The location is perfect as you can walk to the pretty hamlet of St.Clements and into Truro where there are many good restaurants and boat trips to Falmouth in the summer. We will definitely return before the end of the year.

Not often i take the time to leave some good feedback on a place we stay, but i feel that the South Penarth bed and breakfast in Truro has been one of th nicest places we have stayed. On arrival the owner made us feel very welcome and took the time to introduce herself and also to welcome us to her residence. We were then shown to our room which can only be described as very homely with various touches of great hospitality with little things like fruit and homemade biscuits on a tray with teapot and cups and a jug of fresh milk, unlike the normal run of the mill sachets. The decor of the room and premises looks like it has been designed by a professional, the contrast of furniture and decor is superb with the room being spacious and homely. The grounds are relaxing and the position in relation to the town is close enough to enjoy a night out but quiet enough to relax. Breakfast was absoloutely 5* in my opinion with fresh fruit juice and a full English or choice of various cereals which was cooked fresh to our choice of time. The owners were very friendly and polite but also left us to enjoy our stay. If anyone should read this review, i would like to again say that i dont fill these reviews normally, but would feel sure that if you were to visit this establishment you would not be dissapointed. One of the best places i have ever stayed in 49 years and would stay again the next time we are in Cornwall. A massive compliment to the owners and thankyou for a lovely stay.
