“Two day break in Truro”
Reviewed 2 August 2014

After reading so many differing reviews about The Alverton we decided to trust the positive ones and so glad we did. We take many short breaks with the leading Hotels in Cornwall and The Alverton ranks with the best of the 4 stars we have stayed and is now linked with Penventon Park (Redruth). and Greenbank Hotel (Falmouth). An impressive driveway leads to the former
Convent building with all its period features . Inside what a transformation - excellent décor in all public rooms -restaurant, lounge, bar etc. Room 22 was excellent, large, well furnished superb bathroom ALL the staff were pleasant, outgoing, anxious to please and on the ball. Unfortunately when in Truro I tripped over the kerb and spent 3 hours in A and E. On return to Hotel, staff were again great in looking after me but with a face covered with an eye patch it did take the edge of our two day break so we will have to go there again. Anyone over critical of The Alverton must be pretty hard to please. Forget, to us what were unnecessary negative reports and make a booking you should not be disappointed. Well Done to all at The Alverton.

Room Tip: Room 22 great A few rooms have a narrow staircase ask about this when booking and if upgrades t...

What a great hotel! We stumbled on this by chance - as we wanted to visit the Eden project and were looking to move out of a very average hotel into a nice one for a night.

Booking was very easy over a quick phone call. The receptionist who booked us over the phone was at desk when we arrived and welcomed us in. The rooms are exactly what you would expect for the pricing.. Super Deluxe and indeed one of the best during our stay in UK. The hotel and the lawns were beautifully kept..the hotel is being used for weddings too. I would have loved to wed here too...
The restaurant was great...staff very polite and happy to keep us happy. Our orders were met quickly, food served to perfection. We were not sure whether we were so hungry after the trip to the Eden or the food was super... We guesses it was a combination of both. Our 9y old complemented the chef after he completely "demolished" his pasta, terming it as his best meal in 2 weeks.
Breakfast was nice and wholesome... And alas, soon it was time to depart. We promised to be back again if we were in the region..

Room Tip: Small but great hotel.. A Heritage building turned into hotel. Refurbished almost to perfection. If...

Our first night was a distaster - noisy room, broken phone (when I tried to complain!), bath with a cold tap that just trickled, kettle flex didn't reach wall, stained bath mat, damp towles, bin lorries right outside window first thing in the morning... I could go on.

However, we were upgraded to a suite with no questions asked - and it was perfect.

Proper old fashioned customer service, excellent breakfast, friendly staff - couldn't ask for more.

Perhaps, though, they could transfer the style of the public rooms downstairs to the slightly unloved bedrooms.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 33 and there was so much wrong with it - ask if they have fixed all the problems i...

We spent only one night here and were blown away by the amazing looks of this hotel as we arrived. The staff were very pleasant, friendly, helpful and efficient. The food was excellent, best breakfast we'd had whilst on our travels through South West of England. Again the staff were so attentive and concerned for our well being, big thank you to them. Wished we could have stayed longer but our travel plans dictated that time was against us and we needed to move on, and we would certainly recommend this hotel to anyone wishing for a good comfortable and memorable stay. thanks again to The Alverton.

Like the stopped clock on the west face of the clock tower the hotel has not yet reached five. The service was very good, some of the staff really are the exception. A couple of improvements though for some staff who seem to forget that they represent the hotel all the time they are on public view. The food was very good, but can't really understand why breakfast items should run out. The room was spacious but oddly furnished. The TV was too small for the room and sat on an out of place plastic cube. The ball like coffee table was at odds with the rest of the furniture. I would stay again.

My Husband and I recently got married at the Alverton In Truro, I cannot fault the service we had at all. The staff were excellent and were so friendly. The food was lovely and all of our guests were commenting on what a nice meal they had. Nikki Collins our wedding co ordinator was absolutely fabulous I could not of asked for better. She helped me right from the start of booking our wedding, there wasn't anything that was to much trouble. I felt completely at ease knowing that she would make the day run smoothly.. And that she did I had the best amazing day I could imagine. The gorgeous gardens were perfect for pictures, it was lovely weather and the outside patio area made perfect seating. The great hall was a perfect setting for our wedding and then the reception. The refurbishment of the hotel has made it stunning, the rooms all decorated to a high standard with lovely furnishings. And the bathrooms all modern were great also.
We did have a lot of children at our wedding but this was not a problem being at the Alverton, the staff were fantastic with them.
I had such a unforgettable day, and I cannot thank all the team at the Alverton enough.
I would highly recommend this hotel without a doubt :o)
