We had never been to Penrose Water Gardens before, but on Saturday we met there for a family pre-Christmas get together before heading off to some sunshine.
The meals were very good, the waitress was very helpful with dietary requirements and looking after us. The website says BYO but they have now got a licence having a limited wine list, but the bottle of Rioja we had was reasonably priced and not displeasing at all.
The restaurant is part of the shop to the garden centre water gardens, we didn't visit these as it is out of season for the Lilies that they have in the ponds, but the restaurant shop and garden are all on the flat so very good for wheelchair access if needed. Mark of a good service, yes we will return!

Tried this place on a Sunday afternoon after a recommendation from a friend. Definately not what I had expected! This place is really great and obviously the word is getting out there because at 2.30pm on a Sunday they were packed and there seemed to be only two tables left. The room is quite large so no mean feat given that it's in the middle of nowhere. The menu is basic but charming and they have a full specials board. Everything we had was very nice, particulary the Butternut Squash & Spinach Lasagne. They grow their own salad leaves and some of their vegetables so everything is very seasonal and you can really taste the flavours. Service was friendly and the place had a really nice atmosphere. I was expecting a tiny little tearooms not something on this scale or so professionally finished, it was a nice suprize. We will definately return at some stage to try a few more things from their garden and prehaps buy something from the very well stocked shop.

We had lunch at this delightful place on Sunday. It was superb. Vegetables all fresh. Potatoes crispy and the roasted salmon excellent. We then had puddings. The bread and butter one was great but the lemon tart was truly magnificent - not at all stodgy, more like a very creamy mousse. The previous Sunday we had cake and coffee. Both excellent in quality and flavour. The service on both occasions was also very good. Thank you Lily Tearooms

the setting is so peaceful and pretty as you are perched over the lilly ponds on a wooden deck , the service is friendly so no complaints there.
OMG, the soup !!!
we ordered homemade vegetable soup and a roll, well im a great lover of soup but I have never tasted anything like it.
Orange in colour, watery and tasted of nothing but a sprinkle of salt and maybe a pinch of pepper, it was like drinking boiled water. It was awful ,tastless and could of been the dish water out of the kitchen in my bowl!!!
The roll was warm and lovely.
What a disappointment, we thought we had found a little gem.
Maybe go for a coffee and cake only??? But would not risk the soup again.

I have been to these tearooms on 3 occasions this winter having heard about it by word of mouth. The gardens are yet to be explored but the tearooms are well worth a visit and the food is excellent and very reasonably priced. There is always a warm welcome from the staff and other customers are friendly and helpful.
I am looking forward to going in the summer [!] when I hope to enjoy the balcony and the views as well as the refreshments.
