Whether a local or one of the thousands of visitors who visit this part of cornwall, a return boat trip from Falmouth to Malpas (Truro ) is a terrific experience. Adult return fares are £13 and children £6.50. The trip departs Falmouth and the boat travels up the Fal Estuary (Carrick Roads) stopping at Trelissick Gardens (National Trust) before continuing up the Truro River to Malpas. The River Fal is very deep and the mooring for many huge ocean-going ships laid up awaiting work, great to cruise past these sleeping giants. The tree lined river is also a haven for wildlife and birds so take camera and binos. Once at Malpas, the cruise company run a bus into Truro City but we chose to rest in the Heron Inn and have coffee and snacks. Great views over the river from there. There are refreshments on board the boat too, hot drinks and snacks. The journey takes about an hour each way and we found it to be good value. On a sunny day it is unrivalled, but even on a wet one it is a good way to see the area.
