Overnight stay in a clean room with an excellent bed. Friendly staff. Great breakfast although you have to pay extra to upgrade to the full English breakfast, it's well worth it.

We have stayed here a number of times over the years, and have always appreciated the management and how accommodating the staff can be. The owners have kept on ploughing
money into the hotel, improving rooms and public areas, and basically 'getting it right'. The car park is a huge bonus for a city centre hotel. We had lunch there - a good menu, and ample food. Breakfasts - well, OK, but not stunning. We thought the tariff was good value for a weekend break, and we called at short notice. All-in all, a very pleasant place to stay in Truro.

Room Tip: Request top floor - if you can climb the stairs!!

Ideal hotel for business or leisure. Good location. Great restaurant on site. Rooms pleasant and well equipped, including free wi-fi access. Only negative was that room was very warm and the window didn't open. Fan had been provided, but this was very noisey.

We stayed in the apartment block, the room was large airy and very well designed . It was furnished to a very high standard everything we needed was provided, even down to hose pipe, bucket and sponge being available outside if the urge took us to wash our car.. The interior of the public spaces was chic and well thought out. We generally never eat in at the hotel we say at, on this ocassion we did WOW, the quality of the food its presentation and the subtle and professional attitude of our waitress was outstsanding.

We are frequent visitors to Truro (to visit the Mother-in-Law) and have stayed at Mannings (formerly The Royal) on many occasions. The central location of the hotel, convenient car parking, adequate rooms and facilities (such as wi-fi) and a descent restaurant have always been positive factors that have made the hotel an obvious choice for us.

The recent refurbishments of rooms and restaurant over the last few years have been done to a good standard and have certainly helped in making a stay at Mannings more enjoyable and comfortable. We particularly like the rooms on the third floor with the impressive bathrooms and showers, and were very happy with our room on this occasion (13th to 16th March). It will be our room of choice for return visits.

If readers of this review are expecting a “but” or a “however”, well here it is.

Whilst we appreciate that the economic climate is tough, and that refurbishments, maintenance and of course competent staff have to be paid for, the costs of staying at Mannings have risen noticeably. Over the course of a 3 night stay the room was charged at £95 for the Sunday but rose to £109 for the other two days. This price now only includes a “continental” breakfast (more of which in a moment) and is certainly on the high side when thinking about the non-peak time of year and comparable hotels in similar towns or cities. I am reminded that I only pay €89 (about £77.5) for an executive room with full breakfast in a four star hotel in Dublin.

The charge at Mannings excludes £6 per day for car parking (which has increased by £1 per day since last year), but where I find the most annoying increase is with the lack of an inclusive breakfast. Historically the hotel has offered an inclusive (cooked) breakfast, which was a basic light breakfast with additional items at a modest supplement. However, even the “lighter” option cooked breakfast is an additional £3.50 and a full breakfast £7.95. This is compounded by the fact that the “continental” breakfast is a section of cereals, a few croissants and a choice of fruit juices and yoghurt, but with no evidence of a choice of cheeses or meats for example as used to be the case or which would be expected in continental hotels. {We’re aware that we are not the only reviewers to have identified this deficiency with this hotel}.

Maybe I’m being overly pedantic, but given the expanding price of the rooms, an improved offer at breakfast time would be a welcome aspect of this hotel to accord with customer expectation (given the competence of the kitchen that is clearly evident at lunch and dinner) and generate improved customer satisfaction.

To end on a positive note, we have always found the staff welcoming, efficient, pleasant and helpful and we will be back to Truro later in the year. Let’s hope that there are some inviting or seasonal offers.

I stayed 2 days in February and here are the main things that struck me. The hotel is located right in the centre of Truro which is a very nice town and well worth a stay; so the hotels location is spot on. Like most town centre hotels parking is an issue and you have little choice other than to pay £6 a night extra to use the hotel’s gated car park. The room was pretty basic for the £90 odd pound charged but it was clean and tidy but with little to differentiate it from much cheaper hotels; also the toiletries were not renewed after the 1st night.

I didn’t eat dinner at the hotel but I did breakfast there which is where it all began to unravel. The continental breakfast simply isn’t. You get cereals, toast and fruit and that’s about it; that is not a continental breakfast. Where were the pastries, cheese and cold meats? I also asked the waitress for an Earl Grey tea which she informed me might be extra; oh dear. Of course I could have had the English breakfast at an extra £9 but that combined with the price of the room and car park is pushing the stay up to £120 a night and for that I can stay in some pretty swish hotels; which sadly Mannings just isn’t.

Stayed for the second time last week having reccomended the hotel to my colleagues, to say that I was embarressed is an understatement, yes it is in Truro centre but I wish that we had gone to the Alveton Manor.
The first time we stayed here we had rooms on the third floor and they were really nice, hence my reccomendation but this time we were given rooms on the second floor which were comparable to a travelodge, mine actually overlooked a public toilet,
When I asked the reception if I could move I was told the best rooms go first and there were no others available, not mentioned of course when we booked 6 rooms at £99 plus £6 to park my car.
I would also say this is the worst nights sleep I have had in any hotel, somebody must have turned the heating up during the night it was unbarable, and the reception staff were unfazed by the comments.
Be careful Mannings you are very close to Alveton prices without the service levels and you are not in that league.
