“Not as good as it used to be!”
Reviewed 31 August 2013

My husband and I have stayed at this hotel twice this year. The first time in April for a two night stay and again last week, (checked out 30th August). Both times we have stayed in one of Mannings apartments. The apartments are clean and stylish - yet unfunctional, e.g. TV situated in bedroom and settee in kitchen diner! Therefore, having to watch TV in bed of an evening rather than sat on a settee.
During our visit in April staff were attentive, polite and took great care to make sure that our stay was enjoyable. This had been the major factor in choosing this hotel again for our visit to Truro. Sadly Mannings seems to have lost its attention to detail.
On a positive note, we were warmly greeted by a member of staff this Wednesday for check in. The apartment was clean and tidy upon our arrival. Yet on closer inspection the attention to detail was now lacking. The kitchen had no dishwasher tablets - after an extensive search I gave up and left the used crockery in the dishwasher under the false impression that housekeeping would realise the problem and deal with the matter when they came to clean our room the next morning. Not the case, the used crockery was still in the dishwasher dirty and no dishwasher tablets had appeared! The bed had been made and fresh towels hung, (I would have kept previous days towels but only one small hook to hang one towel on). No new capsules of milk had been provided in the tea and coffee tray. Minimalist toiletries had been provided in the bathroom this time, whereas there have been several items at our last visit in April. The tiny toiletries don't even stand up on the shelf in the shower unit because they are so small, and the tiny bar of soap falls through the gaps in the shelf!
These are minor details but if you are paying £250 for a two night stay, I do expect certain standards of service. When we checked out Friday morning I wasn't asked how my stay had been or if there had been any problems. I was just handed my receipt back with a "there you are". Not even wish a pleasant and safe journey. Love Cornwall, love Truro, love the restaurants, but will looking at a new hotel for our visit at Christmas.

Room Tip: When choosing an apartment, keep windows closed because of seagull noise. Take a fan!

The staff are very friendly and the meals are a good size and very tasty. The bedroom was 'compact' but had everything that was required. Mine was on the third floor and there is no lift!
The city centre is no m ore than a five minute walk away and the hotel has a secure car park which it is best to pre-book.

Room Tip: Avoid the top floor unless you have a strong pair of lungs as there is no lift.

We stayed here from 17th til the 22nd August on the third floor in a double room. It may have had no elevators and we had to walk each and every step up and down from the room but it was the perfect location we had for our first stay in Cornwall.

The room itself was wonderful! Room service everyday, top up of the room amenities and because we were on the top floor we had the beauty of seeing the original exposed beams of the building. The car park is safe and at £6 we didn't use all the time as there are other car parks around and much cheaper. Truro is quiet and very central as well with a handy co-op for any extras you might want to get.

On our first night we were given vouchers for a drink at the bar and the staff were all very warm and friendly. We were greeted in the morning for our continental breakfast included as part of the rate with booking.com, the atmosphere was definitely something to enjoy. We were recommended to check out Truro in the winter and I think it's something we would love to do! We definitely want to return!

Definitely a place to choose if you are looking to stay somewhere reasonably price with great service and location.

ps - the seagulls only bothered me on the first night when I left the window open and felt as if an entire army of seagulls were at my window - after that - we kind of got used to it.

Room Tip: We stayed on the third floor and it was a perfect sized double room.

Yet again another outstanding stay. We came down for cornwall pride and we were greeted with a friendly welcome. The car park is secure with gates. Mannings is an ideal hotel for a weekend break or busness trip. Its situated in the centre of Truro, walking distance to shops and pubs and restaurants. The hotel has a lovely modern restaurant and bar with a good choice of menu. They do nice cocktails also. Breakfast is set out well, with good service. Weve stayed here many of times and even stayed here for our honeymoon. We will be back, mannings never dissapoints.

The bulding is good, rooms are comfirtable and service is also good and fast. 99 £ for a night with gated parking included, but if You like ENGLISH BREAKFAST DO YOU HAVE TO PAY AROUND £8!!! The continental breakfast is barely enoungh; call waiters everytime do you need more btead, coffe...is not a good point to have a quiet breakfast in the morning.
