Just returned from spending a week relaxing week at the White Rocks Hotel. A lovely location if you like all things quite. We chose 1st week in October for the quiteness but will be returning next year in Sept. The hotel has only one week left (w/c 7th Oct) before it closes and this we feel had an impact on the holiday. All that was in the area were getting ready to close and day trips were being cancelled due to low numbers. The hotel is surrounded by mountains and sea. There is a small pool and access to three beaches. The cocktail bar is a great place to watch the sunset, very quaint and romantic. Our room was big with plenty of wardrobe space. It had a lovely feel to it but unfortunately we was facing a busy road so the patio could not be used. We felt let down considering the holiday was advertised by Thomson as one of their Platinum Hotels. We could have moved but thought we had already paid enough for our holiday and wasn't prepared to pay anymore considering the hotel was only half full. Food was plentifull but was surprised to find that there was not much in the way of Greek food. It would have been lovely if the hotel could have put on a Greek Night for us all to try their food at least once. Their are restuarants and supermarkets within walking distance but the walk is along that busy road and does not have pavements to walk on all the way. The hotel also has a very strict dress policy in their restuarants especially for the men. Again, I'm pretty sure this was not mentioned by Thomsons. All Staff are lovely and they really want to insure you have a lovely holiday. Word of warning, the hotel has lots of steps and hills and is very uneven so if you find it hard to walk about then you really should not consider this hotel.

first the good points:- location is excellent, rooms are a good size and always kept clean.
now the bad points:- I have to agree with previous reviews about the queues for breakfast
and dinner, if people just sat where they wanted and not be told where to sit Im sure you would'nt
have that problem, also the choice was very limited, if you didn't like salad you where stumped.
It is the first hotel I have been too that did'nt have soup as a starter, and the food was warm never hot.

Dear Reviewer,

Thank you for your review. There are some points that seem to have let you down and we feel we need to clarify these for you.

In response to your comment about sitting wherever you wish: The truth of the matter is that many guests, leave their table to be served from the buffet. Clearly you cannot be aware of which table is taken upon your arrival in the dining room, but the Maitre D’ does. Therefore to serve you better and to avoid you being disappointed, the Maitre D’ advise guests as to which table is free upon guest arrivals. If however you do have a special request again the Maitre D’ can arrange that for you, even though you are aware that you may have to wait for a while when having a particular table request .

In response to the choice of food: We do have a very large salad buffet with at least 5 different salads plus choice of making your own combination. The main courses buffet is again very large, with the choice of hot strarters, various main courses and “ a la minute” cooked meats and fish from our Open Kitchen area. There are 12 different buffet menus for every day of your stay and there is no repeat recipe during one’s stay. Furthermore you may swap your dinner with lunch or dine at our A la Carte Restaurant.

We take all reviews very seriously and we thank you for giving us the opportunity to clear a possible misunderstanding , but unfortunately we fail to acknowledge comments in regards to lack of variety and choice when dining with us when you have the option of 3 different restaurants in the premises with a different menu each.

Sincerely,

On behalf of the White Rocks Hotel

Location perfect, Hotel & staff without exception are friendly & helpful. Food extremely good & very plentiful at all meals. lovely breakfasts with a good variety of usual & unusual dishes & great bread. Dinner was a busier time but the food & selection were of a very high standard.
Rooms were ultra clean. Some comments have been very unfair as it is impossible to please all of the people all the time, little niggles eg. no tissues in the bathroom are rather petty considering what White Rocks offers in other ways. I for one will be returning next year & I am very particular about my hotels. Well done White Rocks on achieving a first class hotel staffed by excellent staff in a first class location. Stayed for 2 weeks in September.

Have just got back from a 2 week stay at White Rocks, we had a lovely relaxing time. This is our second visit so knew what to expect. We have a sea view room worth the extra, the view is stunning along with the sound of the sea 24 hours a day. The staff are all very friendly & very helpful & like to have a little laugh & joke with you. Yes the queuing at dinner can be tiresome but there are only so many tables to sit everyone & they do there best to sit you ASAP, the food is worth the wait. All in all we love the Hotel the location can't be faulted but there are a couple of things that could be improved, tea & coffee in the rooms, sugar at the table in the mornings really on small niggles!

Stayed for one week in September, room 326 mountain view.
First tried to e-mail the hotel 7 times in 8 weeks and I did not get a reply, when I phoned I was told to e-mail them.
The hotel is in a very good location and it was nice to sit on the terrace at the cocktail bar and watch the sun go down.
We swapped dinner for lunch most days because the 2 occasions we tried dinner the queue went across from the dining up the 2 flight of stairs and across to the hotel entrance one night and almost to the lift the other night, on that occasion the queue was still at the top of the stairs at 20:25.
Lunch was pleasant but the selection was very limited due to the fact that less than 20-30 people had lunch. Nice wines in 18-25 euro selection. 16.5 was the cheapest.
My main problem was we booked a mountain / garden view room, it was a view of the car park and on the same level as the main road which was about 40 feet away. The noise from the traffic was quite loud, articulated lorries pass quite frequent as they head south to pick up their load before returning passed the hotel. Also the hotel air conditioning unit is housed about 20 feet away from room 326 and you can hear this all night.
Ignoring the room issue this hotel is nice and modern but it is not 5* as it fails on a lot of small niggles that you don't get in a 5* hotel.

Room Tip: Sea view - nothing else
