Just eaten here for the first time. The restaurant is warm and friendly and well laid out in lots of areas. The service was prompt and well mannered and the food was excellent. We ate off the standard menu but there was a specials board.
Understand there are rooms but did not see them. Welwyn is a lovely village and is just off the main A1 at junction 6.
Will be returning next time I am in the area it was good.

Reticent to spread the word about such a wonderful hotel so close to London and just 5 minutes off the A1. Initially put off by an address on a High Street but relieved to find only minimal traffic passing the bedroom window. Good parking, delightful and thoughtful decor, but above all friendly and intelligent staff. And fabulous food. Throughly recommended.

We stayed in room 6, there was a Drench shower over a lovely big bath.
Modern design with a comfortable big bed.
Cooked breakfast was great with lots of options, though continental breakfast had little choice (no fruit/ yoghurt etc if that's what you like)
We had dinner at the restaurant, good food and wine, and as previous reviews have said the chocolate brownie was amazing!
We didn't look round the town much, but opposite was a church with lovely bells.

Overall lovely relaxing stay, friendly staff and very comfortable room (though some parts a bit dusty). Would definitely stay again if we needed to be in that part of the country.

We go here often and always enjoy it. The food and service always impress and a lovely selection of wine. Seating is relaxed and comfortable. They do not accept booking, which is a shame, but you can usually sit and drink and wait (not too long). Portions and quality always impress.

I stayed in the Wellington on the Friday night before I got married, with my new wife joining me on the Saturday. We live local so knew the food and service were good here but had never stayed.

I had room 3 which was one of the larger rooms complete with a slipper bath, but no shower. The bed was great along coffee/tea making, iPod dock even a hot water bottle if needed.

The room was not dirty was was a bit dusty but this was partly their own making as there are lots of glass and mirror shelving which showed up the dust!

Breakfast is excellent and service as a whole was good. My best man and his family stayed and getting two put up beds or is boys was no problem.

Room Tip: If you want a shower make sure you say!

Having moved recently from St Albans where there is an an exceptional choice of good and excellent restaurants, the Welwyn area has proven something of an expensive gastronomic desert! We had all but given up when we decided to try The Wellington today, 14th Oct 2012.

Things went well from the off. Someone has spent a good few bob on the environment here which combines a modern feel with rustic charm. Lots of exposed wood combined with judicious use of glass. It looks really good ...

The team here really understand the meaning of the "S" word (service). We received a notably friendly greeting as soon as we walked through the door and we were immediately shown to our table. All the staff we encountered were exceptionally helpful and friendly and the emphasis on exceptional customer service was apparent.

We ordered drinks which came very promptly. This is good - the place was busy so the staff were stretched

There's a massive choice here of typical gastro-pub fayre. From sandwiches to a fixed price Sunday menu and various daily specials displayed on blackboards. It all adds up to an inviting experience

And so to the food which is good but no better than good. My partner being a veggie ordered a special : vegetable curry which was cauliflower and mixed veg with a nice spicy sauce presented rather well in an edible basket of some sort. It came with plain rice which was OK and a mixed salad in vinaigrette. Overall well presented and tasty but nothing exceptional.

My ham and leak with mustard pie was really tasty with good texture. The accompanying garnish of vegetables were soggy and tasteless however and the thick cut chips had seen better days. I think they'd been hanging around too long so were only Luke warm and not quite crispy. The pie itself was faultless tho.

So overall an excellent environment. Exceptionally helpful staff and good but not excellent food. Definitely merits a second visit.

The bill for two main courses and two drinks came to a fairly palatable £30

Just went in for drink, but nice surroundings in nice traditional Local English village. Would probably return if near old Welwyn. Friendly service. Its in an affluent area, prices are reasonable considering area. Different to most freehouses, traditional pubs And pub chains like Mc Mullens or GK.
