A lovely location near to Grange over sands and a 5 minute walk to the railway station at Cark. Flookburgh suprisingly has quite a few useful shops too. The living and kitchen area is nicely laid out although parts of the kitchen are starting to look a bit dated. We were pleased that the owner had thought to leave DVDs and some toys including a train set which the children loved. The two downstairs bedrooms were fine and the bathrooms were newly done. We were pleased to find that there was an extra upstairs lounge and we used this as an extra bedroom for the travel cot provided. The only real negative was a slight smell of damp but this could have been if the house had not been lived in regularly as it improved throughout the week.
Lavender cottage was clean, had great facilities and was very comfortable. I would recommend against stopping for a drink in the nearby public house but don't let this affect your decision to stay as there are some very nice restaurants and pubs very close to Flookburgh that are very friendly and welcolming. A car is absolutely essential for your trip.
The cottage is very spacious with a large open plan kitchen / living room which opens up onto a small balcony type garden area. The cottage is well equipped with everything you need from a well kitted out kitchen to added extras such as games, reading material, jigsaws and even a PlayStation. There is a second living room complete with a second settee and TV / DVD player which is ideal for the kids to have as a chill out room. This became my lads x-box room allowing the adults to use the larger living room in peace and quiet. The bedrooms are downstairs one with en-suite giving two bathrooms in total. Showers in both rooms are excellent. The cottage is set back from the road behind another house and is very quiet allowing you to chill in peaceful surroundings. Local shop, post office, sandwich shop, chipshop and pub are within a couple of minutes walk along the main street of flookburgh. There are further pubs, shops, bakery etc in nearby Cark which is about 15 mins walk along the road or you can take the public footpath down the side of the cottage to knock 5 mins of this. Was everything you would expect and more. We received a complementary bottle of wine and cookies on arrival which was a nice touch by the owners. If going back to the south lakes again, i wouldn't hesitate to use again. A big thumbs up from me.
We had an excellent time at Lavender Cottage. The cottage was beautifully furnished, very welcoming and all our requirements were met and exceeded. The cottage was very clean and the instruction folder was very helpful. It had everything we needed for a week's stay - the kitchen was fully equipped and we were able to wash clothes in the washing machine provided and hang them out in the beautiful weather we had.
The one small thing we wanted to mention is that the cottage has a few stairs so it wouldn't be suitable for wheelchair access or people who have joint-related conditions.
But that shouldn't detract from an excellent cottage, beautifully finished to a high standard and very well maintained. Many thanks for a wonderful vacation.
This little gem needs to be talked about more. We had a wonderful and very peaceful break here for 7 nights. The accommodation is beyond excellent and such a home from home. Nina has thought of everything that you could need. The neighbour's are friendly and very welcoming and the silence is deafening! (apart from some very well behaved sheep!)
I would recommend this (and have done already) to anyone who would listen. We had a lovely meal in the near by Pheasant Inn but cooked a lot at home too.
Thanks to Nina and her family for our lovely get away
