Wife and I are not outdoor freak. But we enjoyed this exceptional resort very much. 3 nights in the Monsoon Forest Lodge, and 2 nights in The Beach Villa which offered upgrade. We had a chance of boat trip to Menjangan island. There we snorkeled in couple of hours. It was unforgettable experience. Many tropical fishes and beautiful corals we could see. I recommend to everyone who can swim.
Indeed this site is so far away from many popular area. So you are better to stay longer.
If you stayed a week you would not tired of the restaurant menu. The beach front restaurant offers tasty culinary.

Also I will never forget the kindness and hospitality of all staff. All of them owned our information , so I could get advice at anytime, anywhere.
Mr. Gelgel, I miss you!

Room Tip: The Site is huge in the natural forest. The Monsoon Forest Wing is situated in the middle but for pool facility. You need to call safari-car to go to beach. But on the way you may see big deer called Menjangan.

It was our honeymoon and we wanted the quiet and privacy of a far off place that The Menjangan provided.

The staff were excellent and exceptionally professional. Everyone seemed to know who you were, where you were and what your agenda for the day was. The beach villa on the north shore was private, yet close to all activities on the resort.

The food was made to order and we got a 1 hour free body massage being on our honeymoon which was very thoughful of Gelgel who gave a rundown of the place and the list of things we could do.

We enjoyed the food and we took well to the Bali coffee. Those on the look out for a beautiful getaway amid sand, shore, jungle and mountains, this place is a must visit. The travel from DPS was killing after 2 flights but the place was worth all the trouble.

Special thanks to the manager at the resort also and also our bird watching instructor Puttu.

My husband and I ended our honeymoon with the Experience Package at this resort. We first stayed at the sister property, The Bale and then traveled by car to this resort. The properties are very different and each offer their own unique experiences.

The staff is incredibly friendly and the package allowed us to really experience everything that the resort has to offer. I unfortunately got very sun burned while snorkeling and the staff went out of their way to make sure I could get proper treatment for my burns. Additionally the snorkeling guide brought a camera and flash drive for my husband and I take to pictures while snorkeling and the images are fantastic.

Overall we had a very memorable stay at this resort. I will say that if you stay on the beach, it is quite rustic. The outdoor bathroom was not my favorite part of our stay but being so close to the water and the wildlife (and the attentive staff) helped to make up for it.

I would recommend this property to people seeking adventure and relaxation. We loved having the opportunity to get a massage and then go on a trek. The best of both worlds.

Selamat Sore, dear Amy C,

Our warmest congratulations on your marriage again! It was a great pleasure having you staying with us and we appreciate you were coming a long way from home to experience this secluded part of Bali!

Indeed, for some of our guests the outdoor bathroom is something they first need to get used to and it is certainly not everybody’s taste. Happy to hear though you enjoyed all the other aspects of our little haven and I can guarantee you this was mutual.

We hope to see you in future again, even though it is a long journey .. but it might be worth it maybe for an anniversary trip?

Wishing you both a life full of love and happiness, may you experience many more unique holiday trips in future.

From all the family, warmest regards to you and your husband
Rico

Already stayed here in June last year, however as this is a special place it deserves a review. We booked this place due to the location and the good reviews on Tripadvisor and we were not disappointed. As we were travelling from Java this was a convenient first stop in Bali. The resort is spread out a large area in a national park on the western tip of Bali, so far away from all of the “tourist” areas in Bali. We stayed in both the Monsoon lodge area as in a beach villa. The Monsoon lodge is situated in the forest and the rooms are around a pool. Rooms are big and luxurious. As we decided to stay longer we were given a upgrade to one of the beach villa’s. We did not book them at first because they are quite expensive. However at least for one night they are very special and might be worth spending the money. The beach is very private with many places to relax. Don’t expect a perfect white sandy beach, even expect some rubbish on the beach. This is of course not the fault of the resort but unfortunately a result of people not thinking about the environment and just throwing rubbish in the see.
As already said the resort is spread out in a large area. Transfers are made with cars, as the roads are not paved this can be a bit bumpy. There are two places to have dinner. In the main area/ reception area and at the beach. By far the beach area is the best location, however as it is the tropics, expect some rain so sometimes they have to close the beach restaurant. Food is good, but according to Indonesian standards a bit pricey. Breakfast is excellent. Probably one of the most extensive breakfast menu’s we had (a la carte).
The resort has many options for activities, you can borrow bikes, there is a small reef in front of the jetty, they organise walks and horseback riding. But the best is a trip to Menjangan island reef for snorkelling or diving!
So if you are looking for a “private” resort and something different on Bali, you definitively must consider the Menjangan. Just stay and relax.

Om Swastiastu, dear masasi,

Thank you very much for sharing your impressions even after such a long time. Obviously, the memories stay with you and this is what counts!

It is excellent to read how detailed you remember the Menjangan. As you perfectly observed, we had some issues with the unpredictable weather last year. I am happy to tell you that we resolved this problem and have now lovely tents on the beach, where our guest can enjoy their lunches or dinners even when it rains.

As you know, this Resort requires particular amount of maintenance and we have changed a couple of things in the meantime…why don’t you come again and check it out?
It would be certainly our great pleasure to have such a senior traveller with us again.
Warmest regards from your Balinese family,
Rico

After visiting Bali many times before and going to the same areas like Seminyak, I wanted to add a different component to this holiday so that we can explore the other side of Bali and discover what it naturally has to offer. We weren't disappointed.

I took my parents and my partner and everyone was a little anxious at how far we had to travel but the trip was worth it. We took a break halfway at Bedugul which had breathtaking views and is an experience on itself.

The staff were all very impressive upon arrival. They provided us with a lovely welcoming drink and prawn rice paper rolls. Pak Gelgel who was the guest relations officer informed us of everything we needed to know and remembered our names throughout our entire stay so we felt at home.

We booked the 3 villas at The Residence. At first we wanted to change to the Beach villas so we could be closer to the facilities but we enjoyed the privacy the Residence offers. We had our own private pool that had beautiful views of the bay, our own butler and the menjangan deers visited our garden daily so in the end we didn't move. It was also the best place to view the sunrise and happy for any excuse we could get to hop on the complimentary shuttle and drive through the forest as were bound to spot some exciting animal.

Food was delicious, I recommend the saffron seafood parpadelle (which I ordered twice). Also as we came during the wet season, it wasn't fully occupied so most of the time we felt we had our own private beach.

The staff made this place, communications was excellent. Everyone knew what activity we had done or have signed up for. The butlers were all so friendly and always willing to give us more information about the wildlife who lived in the park.

Must do's: climb to the top of Bali tower to watch the beautiful sunset and take the snorkelling trip to Menjangan Island (but beware of the area where the tiger fish lays their eggs as they can be quite aggressive - I was attacked on the head)

The only thing we were disappointed about was that there was an additional cost for all activities even for using the kayak. Usually when staying in resorts, some of the activities are complimentary because in a remote place such as this, other than laying at the beach you need to do some of the activities or you can get bored.

Definitely would come back again. Thank you to all the staff!!

Very warm greetings from the northern shores of Bali!
Thank you so much for taking your time to write such a detailed and informative review. It was a great pleasure to have you staying with us and I personally made sure that the entire Menjangan Family received your warm comments and compliments. Indeed, it’s the people who make the Resort, be it lovely happy guests and/or a motivated team. This gives a Resort the vibes, the feel and is one crucial aspect for guest wishing to return to this remote beautiful place on the Island of Gods.

We do always appreciate ideas from guests and try to implement them whenever and wherever it is possible. You are right; in many other Resorts some activities are free of charge for the guest. In fact this means, the costs for maintenance are already calculated and added up to the room charges.
We strive for more transparency, given that not every guest is taking part in activities, hence, we want to avoid them paying for something they don’t participate in.

Last but not least, we remain with a big THANK YOU and the hope that your travel plans will lead you soon again up to the Menjangan Resort!
Warmest regards from your new Balinese family,
Rico
