“Obnoxious Landlord”
Reviewed 15 July 2013

My Mother and I cycled to the Horton Inn on a very hot day and stopped in the garden for a drink, which I brought from the bar and took out to the garden (this is important), my Father came to meet us to collect our bikes as we had just cycled 15 miles in 30 degrees and were rather hot... I went back to the bar to buy my Father a lemonade, came back out into the garden where I heard raised voices and the Landlord standing there accusing my Mother of picnicking as there were two bottles of lucozade (from our bicycles) on our table and an old beer bottle (which I had picked up out of the sun on the ground to avoid fire!) , he was less observant about the two gin and tonics I had just purchased! I came out to find my Mother incredibly upset and the landlord going on at her like a 'Fisherwoman'. For the disgusting way he jumped to conclusions and did not even ask if we had brought a drink I would never ever recommend this pub to anyone... we did eventually receive a refund and a very half hearted apology..

Went for lunch may bank holiday. Expecting it to be busy. Extremely quiet no children's menu available. Ordered feta cheese and red pepper salad. Came minus the red pepper and watercress. Sent it back. Waitress came back apologetic they had no red pepper! So ordered chicken and bacon salad. Same salad came back minus some of the feta with two pieces of chicken and three pieces of bacon. Extremely poor value for money. My husband ordered cheese ploughman's. Advertised with coleslaw no coleslaw came. Guess what they had no coleslaw either. Wont be going back in a rush
Shame as it used to be good.

My wife and I popped in on a Monday lunch time for a well earned lunchtime snack. we ordered a platter to share and drinks.

Only after our drinks were pulled did they inform us that 3 of the main ingredients of the platter were not available, to add to this the 3 ingredients were on all of the other options we would have chosen.

As the drinks were already drawn we felt obliged to pay for and drink them but the attitude of the staff was un caring and un helpful. My Wifes coffee, although freshly made in front of us was very weak and watery.

We drank up and left without so much as an apology or good bye from the staff. Wont be returning unless it changes hands. but we did have a lovely lunch at the three legged cross.

Pub was shabby, seat covers damaged no curtains at windows. Not very clean at all. Two other couples in the pub and we waited 40 minutes for food that was inedible. Given a refund but not offered any other option and we still had to pay for the drinks we bought to eat with the meal. Perhaps the Brewery should take a look at this place it makes you wonder what the kitchens are like! The only pleasant thing was the over worked/stressed bar person who was very polite!

We used to visit the Horton regularly and it was always welcoming, clean and the food delicious. However, we had not been since the new owners took over and last week was our first time since they have, and it will be our last.! Firstly the dirty tables were a bad sign, then worse was to come. The barman and his wife were bickering with each other as we tried to order, the wine tasted watered down, and the food! luckily we only ordered a sandwich, but the bread was cheap, and there was soggy cheese and tuna inside (this was meant to be a melt, why wasnt it toasted? this disaster was accompanied by a few burnt chips which had been through the fryer a few times and were covered in salt! surely that is meant to be added by the customer. We left most of it and saw other people sending their food back. What a shame this lovely inn has gone downhill and will now only be used by tourists who dont know whats instore, as locals now will avoid it. Awful.

Room Tip: did not stay thank goodness

Friendly, personal service in a group inn. How refreshing. Decent, clean and spacious rooms and very good value. Pet-friendly with a welcome doggy treat too! We will certainly use the Horton Inn again.

Rooms were just OK as was food (not home made).
Somw wallpaper falling off walls and paint could do with a touch up.
We had to stay for 4 nights - it was a long 4 nights!!!!
Freindly staff.
It cost £60 a night which i consider to be too much for what it was.
