“Fabulous resort”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 December 2013

My wife and I spent five days here in November and were truly impressed. The resort earns it's five star rating in every way. The facility is gorgeous. The room was spacious, meticulously appointed and had an spectacular view of the Kapalua coast. The service was impecable and the amenities in the club level area were second to none. The food served there at all times of the day was so good we had to convince ourselves to visit some of the restaurant options on the property. In addition the "personal" concierge service in the club level was like having our own private concierge to help with any question or request we had. We have stayed in many fine hotels and resorts around the world but none provided a better overall experience than this outstanding facility. I would strongly recommend it to anyone seeking a real first class experience on Maui.

Room Tip: I highly recommend a club level room for the extra amenities that are provided. It is more than wor...

We spent the first 5 nights of our Hawaiian honeymoon at the Ritz in Kapalua -- overall excellent stay, no real complaints, but not as memorable as our next stop in Kauai.

After a LONG trip from Boston, we were exhausted and ready to relax when we arrived -- check-in was quick and painless (and accompanied by a lei and fresh juice). We received a complimentary room upgrade without asking...no complaints.

Our room was on the main level, a short walk from the main lobby. Beautiful classic Hawaiian styling, view of the fairway/green at the golf course next door and very large. Small, somewhat-private balcony was nice. My only complaint on the room was the pillows -- while the bed was super comfortable, I was never able to get comfortable with the pillows and did not sleep well for our entire stay. I'm sure most people find the pillows comfortable, and I didn't ask for different pillows, so not a huge complaint.

The resort was fairly quiet during our stay there -- a bunch of honeymooners, and a bunch of empty nesters. Ages definitely skewed older than other places we stayed in Hawaii. Not a kid to be seen anywhere, which was to be expected.

The bar in the lobby was nice for a quick drink on our way to or from dinner, but never seemed too lively. Onsite restaurants were very good, but our best meal by far was at Sansei nearby. Perhaps the only restaurant within walking distance, Sansei was the best dining experience we had in all of Hawaii -- incredibly fresh and creative sushi. Breakfast buffet was excellent, but overpriced even by Ritz standards -- we only ate breakfast onsite our first day.

Pool was nice, but very little shade if that's a concern for you. We spent more time at the beach, which is a ~5+ minute walk from the pool. Beachfront cabanas are set back from the beach a bit, but include a cooler full of drinks, waiter service and welcome shade for $50/day. It is certainly windier than other locations in Hawaii, but that was not a problem for us -- we thought the breeze was actually nice.

Location is secluded which has its pros and cons. Very quiet and relaxing, which was nice. However, it's a 15-20 minute drive to the closest town. If you want to eat off-resort, besides Sansei it's going to be a fairly long drive.

Service was really impeccable, with one glaring exception. We had an activity credit and wanted to use it to for some activities (snorkeling, etc). The concierge was less-than helpful and rushed us through the process of booking activities -- it felt more like a hard-sell and I left the concierge desk with a bad taste in my mouth. We later found out that we were given no choice between the Snorkel+SNUBA package and the cheaper snorkel-only package...just felt slimy to not have been given the option.

Overall, our stay at the Ritz was amazing and I would certainly return again, but not quite a perfect 5* experience for us.

Our experience at this property was very positive and would highly recommend this property to anyone visiting Maui. It is about an hour from the airport which was great for us, because it is away from town and all of the hustle and bustle that comes with being at a property in a "city". The Ritz is situated on a great property with awesome views. The staff was very attentive and and the room was in very good condition. We were very surprised to find that the hotel upgraded us to a suite at check-in. I read several comments stating that everything is so far away from the hotel, but we really didn't feel that the beach was too far to walk and if you wanted to go snorkeling you did need to drive or take the hotel shuttle, but overall very acceptable. The food was on the high side, as expected, but was very good. The only hitch we experienced was at check out when they didn't have our points stay accounted for. Marriott deducted the points for the stay, however the hotel did not have a record of anything. We showed our confirmation paperwork and the hotel will work it out with Marriott, but we were surprised at how long it took the front desk to figure this out and allow us to be on our way. Bethany apologized for the inconvenience, but the manager that she had to keep referring to did not bother to come out and apologize for the misunderstanding. Not what we would expect from a Ritz Property. Overall very good experience and would stay there in the future and recommend to anyone visiting Maui.

Beautiful grounds, beautiful rooms, great service and expensive. Everything you could expect from a Ritz-Carlton. I can't believe some people say the beach is far, when it's a 90 second walk downhill (with golf carts available for the super lazy). We were planning on doing a few activities in Maui, but we only did half because the hotel was so nice we stayed there a couple of days. The pool area is lovely, and the wind actually helps because the sun is scorching in this part of the world. We used the spa and (although expensive) the treatment was great and the facilities spotless.

Stayed here for a couple of days around Thanksgiving. Received upgrade a check in even though we stayed on points. Hotel did not disappoint. Pool was huge and pool staff was outstanding. Beach is a walk, but not to far, with great views all around. With one exception service throughout the resort was great. We did have one snooty concierge tell us our pre teen kids would not enjoy the sushi restaurant because it was "fine dining" .... I had to laugh that off. After eating there, fine dining is not a word I would use, but give it good reviews ... See separate review. While I believe the Four Seasons is nicer, I would return here again before the FS, the Ritz is quieter and has a better pool and beach. Not much else around besides golf courses, which made it nice and quiet.

We had a nice stay but probably won't be back. The beach is too far from the resort, the residential suite we stayed in should have had a extra half bath for the price, the resort fee was a total rip-off, the unit furnishings were worn out and not what one would expect at a premier resort charging such high rates. The staff was nice and the Christmas decorations were pretty though.

My wife and I stayed at the ritz carlton in November, the hotel has a great location, room was well decorated... The resort has 2 golf courses both of which are great courses, I especially liked the The Bays (would recommend it to any who want to play golf). The only down side is that the resort does not have a good selection of places to eat (or extensive menu) and the nearest town is about 30mins away (lahani) or about $38US one way in a cab. If you are thinking of hiring a car then places are more accessible and the parking at the ritz carlton is cheap...
