Room 2442 had a view of the Honolua chapel and Molokai. Overlooked a golf tee. Staff was friendly (you could tell they were trained to say "Aloha" to everyone they met). Closest market was Napili Market, but opted to shop at Times a little farther down the road. They had a shuttle, but it didn't go to any shopping area, just went to the different golf courses in the Kapalua Resort area. This hotel is about an hour drive from the Kahului airport so be sure you rent a car so that you'll have a little independence and can get away from that western side of the island. Most of the activities and places to visit are on the other (eastern) side of the island so prepare for a drive to get where you want to go. Hotel amenities are the usual and prices for food and cocktails are upscale. This is the place to go if you want to get away from it all.

We went for part of our honeymoon and have no regrets!! The hotel was beautiful, they upgraded our room when they knew it was our honeymoon, and everyone was so friendly. We ate at the restaurant bar and the food was amazing. It can be chilly at times because of the constant breeze, but it's great they have hot tubs you can go in to warm up. Also the beach was incredible. We stayed at Fairmont first and the Ritz's beach in our opinion was such so much prettier. Also, there is a bar down by the beach and the drinks were amazing. We stayed at the Ritz since it was convenient to get to Lanai for our next stop, and we hope for our 10 year anniversary to go back and stay at the Ritz and then go to Lanai again. Thanks for a great and memorable honeymoon!

We stayed five nights at the Ritz-Carlton as part of our 20th anniversary trip to Hawaii. The hotel is beautiful and elegant, and most of the service top-notch (more on that later). We had a two-room ocean front suite on the 5th floor, which made for a long walk down the hallway but a gorgeous view overlooking part of the golf course and the ocean. The resort is built on a hill, so you aren't right on the water and walking down to the beach is a bit of a hike. (Staff is always willing to give a golf cart ride if you need one.) There are three somewhat small pools, semi-connected, with the largest being adults only (not always enforced). They are nice, but there are no water features and not much shade on the deck. There were a lot of families here with small children, so it was often crowded and noisy.

We sprung for a cabana on the pool deck one day, which was great for shade and direct service for food and drinks. The atmosphere was a bit blah, though. We much preferred the mini, two-person cabana we rented at the beach a few days later for location and people-watching, though the service was non-existent. We weren't clear if we were supposed to have bartenders and wait staff stopping by, until my husband went to order drinks an hour after we arrived (we had a cooler with water and juice). The staff at the bar was surprised nobody had come by to take an order and assured us that was supposed to happen. Even after they supposedly alerted staff, we only had one visit for the rest of the afternoon. One visit in six hours is not great service in my book. Still, the little cabana was lovely and not very expensive ($50).

The resort itself is a bit stuffy. The staff was great (aside from the beach experience), but the other guests were often pretty rude and short with them, and ambivalent to other guests. Perhaps that's just Ritz-Carlton territory. We're no stranger to nice resorts and upscale travel, but this was just old-school rudeness.

We did not try any of the restaurants on property as we wanted to try other offerings and had a car. There was a free shuttle that traveled within a few miles of the resort area and visited several restaurants and a few golf courses. We took it our first night to eat at the Pineapple Grill, which was good. The sushi at Sansei was fantastic! Every morning we walked up to the Honolua store for breakfast, and we used it for snacks to keep in the room and to take when we drove to Hana.

We traveled quite a bit around the island for activities, and this is definitely not a central location. Traffic is heavy and slow on the one main road, so give yourself plenty of time to get around. If you're looking for something out-of-the-way and to stay put at the resort, this probably won't be a concern. There is plenty there, but we tend to be more active and seek out better restaurants when we travel so we were on the road a lot.

The resort is definitely geared to golf and spa, and multi-generational family visits. As a couple on a romantic anniversary trip it was fine, but not as special as we'd hoped.

Room Tip: Ocean front rooms are quiet and beautiful, but be prepared for a long walk.

All good from us. We basically tear up any time we discuss our honeymoon at the Ritz Kapalua. If you can afford it, it certainly is very very pricey, go here. We are avid travellers, and love luxurious, classy, hotels. The grounds here were amazing. Food was phenemenal, from burgers to sushi. This is the best Maui has to offer. Kapalua is secluded enough that it is quiet and very romantic. I can write all day about how great our experience was. Anything you are thinking of that is a concern of yours, I give it 5 stars in every category. Again, pricey, even for a Ritz.

This was my 2nd stay at the Ritz in the last 2 years. Both have been great. I love the fact that it is not in the middle of all the hotel chains further down in Kaanapali. It is perfect if you are not looking for crowds and don't need a lot of nightlife. Both times I have been upgraded to a Residential Suite. It is so huge and makes you feel like you have your own apartment along with great amenities. The pool area is large with the adult pool in the middle. Cabanas are very cheap... $100 for the basic tent and chairs or $300 for the nice ones with TV's, Couches, etc. The wind is heavy and helps keep you cool. Everyone talks about how much it rains on this end of the island. I was there for 10 days and it rained 3 days. We used that time to explore other parts of the island and shop in Lahaina. I recommend getting a car since it is pretty far out. Valet is $30 and self park is $18. Drinks in the lobby bar are $15. The bartenders are great. Matt, Aubree and Mark made sure we had a good time and always had good answers to our questions. The only negative I can think of is I wish their room service menu had more selections. Be sure and walk across the street to the Honolua store for breakfast. It ranges from $7-10 instead of the $30 you will pay at the hotel. I am already planning my next trip to Maui and the Ritz is definitely where I will stay.

Room Tip: Try to upgrade to a Residential Suite in the Honolua wing. It is worth it.

Enjoy a lovely stay at this hotel. Grounds are absolutely lovely and the staff are incredibly helpful. Beach is fairly quiet albeit a bit of a distance from the hotel. We met folks that stayed in the residential suites and they encourage us to try them next time we're there.

Room Tip: Oceanfront only

We've stayed here twice, once in 2005 and again in 2009.

Our first stay there was absolutely wonderful. The staff went above and beyond, which frankly, we expect at a Ritz. We had the "Mercedes Package" which I don't know if they offer anymore, but we had the use of an SLK350 which was awesome. The food was great, the beach was wonderful and the whole trip was just perfect.

We returned in 2009 with our family (a group of 7) to celebrate my grandmothers birthday. This trip was not so great. Apparently, the hotel had lost most of its staff and the hired whoever they could find. Most of the staff was rude and unhelpful. They called 2 of our rooms twice with 5am wakeup calls that we didn't want, request or need. They sent a picnic basket full of the wrong food on the wrong day. Then, when we needed it, it wasn't ready (or right).

Hopefully since then, they have trained or replaced that staff, but I would check recent reviews before booking. Be sure you're going to get true Ritz service before you spend the money.

Room Tip: Request a lanai facing the beach on the first level.
