Recommended length of visit: 1-2 hours
Owner description: Grinzane Cavour Castle stands in one of the most spectacular settings in the Langa, just 5 km from Alba. The imposing building, erected around a central tower dating back to the first half of the XI century, can be admired in all its original beauty following the restoration that began in 1960, in celebration of the first centenary of the Unification of Italy. The Castle now houses the "Cavour" Regional Enoteca, the first to be set up in Piedmont in 1967. This is a prestigious showcase for the very best Piedmontese wines and grappas, foremost amongst them being Barolo and Barbaresco. The wines undergo a strict selection process before being displayed and placed on sale along with leading local food products. Tastings possible.

We enjoyed our trip here and the lovely views of the surrounding vineyards. There was an English audio tour which explained about the castle and its history

“Good wine selection and great views!”
Reviewed 18 November 2012

Our last stop before leaving the area was a very nice visit to their wine tasting room (no time to try the restaurant). The view from the area around the castle is great. They were willing to open another wine after one of that day's tasting wines was almost sold out. Small cost for each wine tasting - price goes up per glass with the value of the wines.

“History and wine!”
Reviewed 8 November 2012

The Piedmont landscape is dotted witch castles, but this has the distinction of having an interesting museum related to the region's history, wine and truffle production. Also the castle it has a comparatively intact interior, where as most of the areas castles are crumbling. The tour includes is a an audio guide. After the tour we had a snack in the castle's restaurant and visted the enotecha. Well worth a visit and a good place to get an introduction to ther region.
